Flashlight Add-on Pass Idea
I have one question for you? Are you actually happy with the current state of flashlights? If you say yes I am here to change your mind by way of logic and evidence.
Right now flashlights are in a bit of a boring and stale place because there is really only 1 type of flashlight add-on worth your time to run. (The batteries and filament) We have all of these other stats that flashlights have (beam length and width) but the other add-ons affect these things in either a detrimental, useless, or non-functional way. I am by no means saying that flashlights are useless and need to be mega buffed or anything because flashlight even without add-ons can potentially be some of the most power items in the game at the survivors disposal. The last time that flashlights had any changes at all was back in 1.8.3 and it was nothing but a nerf, by the removal of faster blind times. This change had left a huge hole in the middle of almost all the flashlight add-ons that can almost never be fully replaced. The only other stat of flashlights that can actually still do something is the longer blindness duration but, you have to run all the strongest add-ons of those type on the strongest flashlight to be able to really notice that the killer is being blinded for any longer than the normal 2 seconds. On the killer side they won't really notice much of a change to how much or how long they get blinded, these are either QOL changes or functionality updates as in to make the add-ons in question actually do something worth while.
First I must address the problems I have with the current add-ons individually or as groups.
- Lens add-ons: The main problem I have with these add-ons is that if they actually did what they said they do, they would actually have a pretty unique effect that no other add-on could do that could potentially be useful in the right situation, but as of right now these add-ons DO NOT actually increase the range of your flashlights by any noticeable amount even when you test them in KYF you can't really notice anything. The only change I'd love to see with these is to make the range increase on the beam actually 25% like the official wiki says they do.(Also make the wide lens increase the range of the beam as well but to a lesser extent of course because it is a common add-on)
- Bulb add-ons: These add-ons when stacked together actually can make a noticeable difference in how long the killer is blinded for but you of course do have to run the strongest of these types together to be able to see that difference. This suggested change will allow to to only need to run one of the bulbs to get the best blindness duration thus leaving open another add-on slot to put other addons into. First I will increase the blind times of these add-ons as a whole but in return they will no longer stack so that you only need to run an odd bulb on a utility flashlight to get the longest possible blind. The new numbers respectively in decreasing rarity is as follows. 50%/40$/30%/20%. The main purpose of this change is to make the odd bulb and the respective lower tier bulbs actually feel impactful in a match. Right now the odd bulb is ultra rare but if you were to just run it by itself you on increase the time the killer is blinded for by .5 seconds aka not a very noticeable amount at all and remember this add-on is in the same rarity as items like the skeleton key and Syringe which are both very powerful items and add-ons but the odd bulb by itself is kinda poopy to be perfectly honest. This change would allow you to be able run an odd bulb by itself and have it be useful by itself by adding a whole second to the blind time just by itself which is for sure a noticeable amount of time to increase the blind time by with just one add-on. This could allow you to have more interesting flashlight add-on combos thus making flashlights in general more interesting.
I guess i didn't really change too much but overall I hope you feel the same way about flashlights like I do and that you agree with these changes that I would make if it were up to me. Feel free to discuss these changes with comments below. I am open to criticism but it must be constructive not just useless rage bait.
