Can sombody explain how the pig traps work. I think I understand and then something happends and then back to not understanding. I thaught when you put one on and a gen goes off it starts. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. I don't understand why. And are they useless in end game after the gens are done?

The 2 minute timer on them starts once the trap is put onto someone's head and then a generator is completed. So yes, at the end game, they are useless besides the 500 deviousness points you get from putting one on.

Ok. So, the Pig places a trap on your head. The trap has to be on your head (or at least the animation has started) BEFORE the generator is completed to activate.
If a generator is completed at all, the timer activates. If so, you have 2:30 (or 2:00 if they're running the Tampered Timer add-on) to remove it or you die and are "sacrificed".
If a trap is placed after all the generators are completed or Endgame Collapse is triggered, the traps will not activate.
They will also appear inactive if you're dying, in a chase or on a hook.
If they're not activating at all, then that's a serious bug that needs to be looked at.

After a trap has been put onto the survivors head the trap remains inactive, meaning it does nothing. After a generator has been completed it becomes active. While the trap is active you:
- Have to search Jigsaw Boxes to find a key. There is 4 boxes unless the killer brings an add-on.
- The timer lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Searching the Jigsaw box takes 8 seconds I think.
- If the timer expires or you attempt to escape by the exit door you will die.
- Escaping by the hatch won't kill you when the trap is active.
- If the Pig starts chasing you your timer pauses.
You can search boxes before your trap becomes active. If your trap isn't active and the gens are completed then you can escape even with the trap on. Pig spawns with 4 traps to start the game, this can change by add-ons. She can trap the same survivor multiple times.
I think I've covered everything. Hope this helps you mate.

White, fading on and off for an active/paused trap.
It becomes paused when they're dying, on hook or in chase. So yeah. Leaving them alone is advised.
