Need help on CPU underclocking
How can i limit the CPU? Im talking about limiting the GHz to minimum so that temps stay low at the cost of sacrificing fps. Which app can i use for this? Ive been trying xtu and throttlestop but i cant find an option for this on xtu and throttlestop is a complicated clusterfuck.

What brand/model do you have? I know very little about this sort of thing, but I think most have official software that you can use to adjust settings like that. For example, I have an AMD Radeon CPU, so I use the AMD Radeon Settings app to underclock it while I'm playing games like DBD.

Sorry, forget it. I made the Laptop crash while playing league with basic undervolting. Tip of the day never buy a "gaming laptop"

Sorry to hear that, mate 🙁 Hope you get it worked out.

Thanks for that. I am trying to sell the laptop. However it seems like the price i bought it for (1k) is a scam because i see others at 600~ minimum. Such a waste. And by the way, while i was looking through XTU it seems like i got a defect because this gtx 1060 has only 4 gigas instead of 6. Hopefully i can get this trash back and get an actual gaming PC.

What a bummer! Well, fingers crossed then 🤞

Hey,
why do you want to underclock your cpu? Overheating issues? Can you provide details to your motherboard and cpu? Or maybe the exact model to look up (if thats not a custom configured laptop).
There is no 4GB variant of the 1060 afaik, just 3GB and 6GB. Just because it shows 4GB, doesnt mean that its just using 4GB. Sometimes its a display issue, open dxdiag and check "Display 1" ( Win+R -> dxdiag ).

Oh you were right. It is 6052 vram.
My laptop is the predator helios ph315-51. It's because of overheating issues. For example. Playing hitman 2 on 60 fps on medium-low 1920x1080. Then the game Stutters, drops to 40 fps, comes back to 60, then after a while it gives up and going lowest res and graphics possible doesnt change fps back to something stable and playable. I have tried 30 fps lock, but it's the same thing.
CPU is i7-8750H @ 2.2 ghz (12 CPUs).

Did you check your idle and gaming temps? If its already pretty high while in idle, its probably an issue with the thermal paste.
You can undervolt your system with this premade config for your CPU:
But if undervolting does not help, you should send/bring it to acer and let them redo the thermal paste.

You are correct once again. It is the thermal paste's problem. Thanks for your help, but im still going to sell the laptop after getting a fatal error randomly while gaming. Would rather sell it than spend extra on a degrading computer, you know.

Your model aint that old, so repasting should fall under warranty (no cost for you). If you already bought it for a higher price, you loose a lot of money selling it "broken".
Internet says that ur model was released 15 months ago: https://www.laptoparena.net/acer/notebook-acer-predator-ph315-51-79la-nh.q3fem.002-black-13369 , so it should be covered even without a reciept.
Just give it a try / call acer, before taking the L :)
