Pyramidhead and the reverse grip

Pyramidhead uses the reverse grip to hold his weapon.

I wonder if he holds his knife like that in Silent Hill too, because I don't think that's very effective with such a big knife. Is it purely aesthetic or does it have a deeper meaning?

It's just a story/aesthetic thing. Reverse grip is very inefficient when wielding a sword of any kind. It limits your attack angles and lowers the power behind most strikes. In short, it's just for effect.

I don't think you should look at realism in such a huge weapon.

He did that in the games too. Pyramid Head was designed around the idea of pain (hence that warped helmet), and the Great Knife is so heavy, it's carried like that to emphasise it's weight and strain.

James can actually wield the Great Knife in Silent Hill 2, at the cost of an incredibly slowed rate of swing and movement.
