Retiring older maps?
I don't know what the general consensus on the newer maps is, but I'm personally a fan of more complex structures and additions such as breakable walls. With each release I've become increasingly bored of older maps when I load into a game. Three in particular stand out as having outlived their usefulness. Each of the three default realms has an 'empty' map- one without a distinctive structure (shelter Woods, rotten fields and wreckers yard)- while these maps are classic, they just don't offer anything to the game that other maps don't (well OK, shelter woods tree should be uprooted and placed into the coal tower map so that balanced landing users finally stand a chance there).
I really think it would be cool if the map update could improve the complexity of the older maps in a similar way to the recent alterations to Thompson House (hell, I'd love to see this taken even further and having more structures and verticality added to older maps- lose half of suffocation pit and make it a proper 2 story map with a mine for example), but I realise this is asking a bit much. This certainly wouldn't be possible in (for Example) shelter woods- beyond a breakable wall in the shack there's no way to add complexity to this relatively barren map.
Back to my point though- the three maps mentioned above feel superfluous to the current game. I'd personally like to see them taken out of rotation so that I don't feel like I'm getting a dud game when I roll one of them.
Anyone agree or vehemently disagree on this front? I dunno if this is something that could be put into action but discussing it seems like the first step.

They're updating all the maps in year 4 (this year of the games life time). Complete with new assets etc, even more due to the graphics update.

The older maps were the best imo. Somehow most balanced. Ormond on the other hand...
I don’t think survivors like Hawkins and killers shouldn’t like Dead Dawg Saloon.

I know--I mention it in the post :p
Since these maps specifically are made of default realm assets and have no unique structure, an update would only be graphical. You'd still have three maps that are comprised of default jungle gyms and empty space in an ever increasingly diverse roster.

I massively disagree on the balance side of things. Until the recent update a lot of structures were very survivor sided. On the other hand when I load into shelter Woods as killer I know I'm going to win (there are like 3 safe pallets across the entire map lol).
Ormond is probably the worst of the recent maps, but the central structure is one of the better parts of it IMO. Another recent map I don't much like is sanctum of wrath- but I think that the map is pretty much in line with the older designs (basic central structure surrounded by the realms default jungle gyms and hills). In both cases I just think the size and shape of the map don't quite work.
I love dead dawg as a killer, though I get sidetracked trying to break every wall... And Hawkins is grand on either- I've noticed a lot of survivors don't know how to run indoor maps, they're generally more survivor sided as long as you aren't the kind of person who camps unsafe pallets.
That said, I'm really not sure what the general consensus is- I've noticed streamers seem to ######### about dead dawg a lot, but I don't get why.

They better not retire the macmillan estate. They are the most fair maps in the game.

I do like those maps

Not what I was suggesting tbf. Just shelter Woods. Which actually isn't that balanced .

Honestly, I have a bigger beef against Blood Lodge than Wrecker's Yard. Bad for M1 Killers and bad for Survivors facing Nurse/Huntress. At least Wrecker's Yard adds spice by the basement always being in the middle.

I do prefer the layout of wreckers to be be fair. Slap the lodge onto wreckers and retire pallet City?
It seems a shame to waste a structure, but I agree that lodge is the worse designed of the two.
