Is oblivious status effect that strong?
I've always asked myself how much it changes the game, but not many times this status effect had a significant impact, and I just wondered if it is really worth it or not.
Especially now with this new perk 'Deathbound' , I feel like it screams for attention, and this perk really wants to be good and shine, but something seems a bit off to me and I think it is because of this concept of 'oblivious'
I pictured myself a scenario where if a survivor becomes oblivious a small icon on the HUD appears just for the killer, so he can be able to search after that survivor knowing that specific survivor is more vulnerable than others.
For me, that would make the oblivious status effect more threatening, i guess? Like for real, it could be haunting from a survivor POV and would encourage powers/add-ons/perks that make survivors oblivious. What do you guys think?

On one hand it removes the survivors ability to hear the killers TR which can lead to some surprises for the survivor if they aren't paying attention. On the other hand, it doesn't remove the killers red stain effect, and the afflicted survivor(s) have a status effect icon that tells them they should be more alert and look around more. When they first announced these status effects I was worried that both Oblivious and Undetectable would show up on the survivors hud, but fortunately only Oblivious does. Can you imagine if Undetectable showed up for survivors every time the killer used it? That would pretty much defeat the purpose.
That's how I feel about Oblivious, It would be a strong effect if the survivors didn't know they were affected by it, but since they do, It only makes them more cautious to the killers whereabouts. Also given that it doesn't remove the killers telltale Red Stain, Survivors can more easily spot the killer while under its effect unless they are on an indoor map with lots of LoS blockers, or destructible walls they killer can smash through and surprise them. Basically Oblivious is a weaker version of Undetectable that makes anyone but noob survivors more cautious and vigilant when they are affected by it. While that doesn't make it totally useless, especially in indoor maps where its much harder to spot the killer, but it also doesn't make it anywhere near as useful as Undetectable.
The devs did this by design so that the survivors would know they are being de-buffed and need to be more alert. In a way, solo players having that icon appear on their screen have a tendency to be less bold until it goes away, but in the instances where the survivor is in an SWF team on voice chat with their friends, it becomes a useless status effect.

I fully agree with what you're saying, but the devs just keep using this status effect on new things that are being added. Is it really necessary?
As you stated before, oblivious is just a weaker version of Undetectable, which I'm totally ok with, not everything has to be strong, but it feels to me like a wasted potential. Maybe 'Deathbound' will manage to pull some plays with the oblivious effect, and will give oblivious a good purpose but I highly doubt it. Remains to be seen tho.

When GF was on the ptb the survivors got an audio que every time he was in stealth. That literally defeated the purpose of going stealth. When PH gets here I hope his one perk that makes him undetectable whenever he kicks a gen has been tweaked so the gen he kicks isn't yellow. I thought that perk had potential but if they know where he is when he's undetectable then whats the point?

Oblivious is potentially powerful. However at least prior to death bound no perk or power has utilized it in a way that makes it strong.
Basically in order for the effect to actually work it needs to be applied but when the Survivor is unaware of where you are and for long enough that you can reach them.
Hex: Retribution would fit but you don't get the effect reliably enough nor do you know when the effect activates in order to capitalize
Nemesis is applied in chase when the Survivor knows where you are. However it qualifies if used with Furtive Chase.
Demogorgons portals don't apply the status long enough and the demo is too loud to capitalize
This makes Deathbound the first perk to both last long enough and have the right timing to actually take advantage of the status effect.

The sad part is so many perks are rendered less effective to useless by people on voice chat its almost to much of a gamble to take them.
