Just the simple concept of different skins for items. Like you see it now with the anniversary event.

This is just fun and gives you some more interesting looks for your items.

The only downside I can think of is having it be more difficult to identify objects being used by survivors, but you'll be able to see what object it soon enough into a game, and eventually people would get used to the skins and know which item it was.
