Let's just give everyone event cosmetics
I'm not sure why the dev team is giving everyone event items that they never worked for. And them taking legacy is completely unnecessary, like I get it that some people get upset because they missed an event or feel left out but really? Why even have event cosmetics if you can't feel special getting it. The propain hammer for billy as an example, why in the next event would I even bother if I'd get it a couple months from then. Idk maybe I'm being overdramatic about it but it seriously just feels so cheap to do that to people who work their ass off in the events.

The devs said they'd be exclusive. Circumstances changed and they backed down on that decision because so many people that did grind for them lost them. Then they were released to everyone because the devs couldn't accurately give everyone back their lost cosmetics. This all happened because of a storage failure and current event cosmetics are stored in a much safer way. If you don't want to grind in the hopes this happens again, then be my guest and don't. Just don't be upset if you don't recieve them later.

i don't even see the reason to be upset over event cosmetics being given away. not like anyone ever uses them, for example the crowns this event sure they are cool and fun for a bit but no one will take off their biker kate head for a default with a glowing crown. plus wdym grind your ass off on the events, they are so easy to do for both sides, the current even works the same as the lunar event, as a survivor all u have to do is escape and as killer u just finish the trial. if u are playing the game why not just get the cosmetics instead of spending time on the forums complaining that they'll give them away later. it just makes no sense

I completely agree with your statement. However, didn't the devs say they no longer have any intention of including exclusive cosmetics in the game any more? I mean all the Rift items (excluding charms) come back after a minimum of 1 year. So I would not at all be surprised if they brought the crowns back in a future event so as to not leave anyone out.
It would be nice if the crowns remained exclusive, but why would the devs go back on their word on not having anymore exclusive cosmetics? When they use the word "exclusive" now, they usually mean exclusive for a limited time. For example, a year, before they're brought back for the people who missed them later down the road.
