Event Items and Prestige

Can the devs make it so that you don't lose event items while prestiging? For example, the items from this event will not be obtainable after July 14th, and any items I collected will be permamently lost if I ever want to prestige. Unique items should not disappear like that.

Why? If you want to keep your items just don't prestige.

What if I want a prestige cosmetic? Should I sacrifice items I will never be able to get again because of a stupid mechanic?
