on survivor skill and ranking
This is mainly a sort of rant of some thoughts I had written down so I don’t forget.
The main problem I've noticed is that somehow anyone can play this game and not improve or acquire any new knowledge on tactical gameplay while still performing “well” based on the emblem and ranking systems. The emblem system is divided into four parts of survivor gameplay and they all have an equal limit to the amount of points a survivor can earn. This should not be the case. It requires no skill to work on a gen with bond and prove thyself or sandbagging teammates with borrowed time. These are the easiest categories to acquire points in and allow people who have done these actions to at least break even or pip post-match if they maxed out in both categories. However, there are 4 survivors who are supposed to work together to escape but the emblem system makes it so if they want points, they’d have to actively take potential points from a teammate. Is it skillful because I beat my teammate to a hooked survivor? The points I earn from doing so are immense and would help me rank up as opposed to my teammate who may depip from lack of altruism. I think that the limits should be changed. Keeping the overall max of 32k but removing the equal distribution since there is no equal opportunity to obtain points in these categories naturally. As I stated before Altruism and Lightbringer are the least skillful of the 4. I find boldness to be the most skillful and although survival does also require skill in order to do so it is the most difficult to fill completely. I decided on 6k Lightbringer 6k Survival 6k Altruism 14k Boldness. Now I'm not completely set on these numbers but I do feel as though the key to improving players skill and ranking for survivors revolve around boldness. Another thing I thought about to compliment this change was how scoring events work. I always found it strange how you get points for dropping a pallet in a chase. Stunning the killer and vaulting is fine but what if instead you lost points for dropping pallets? Also, what if there were positive and negative sound notification in concurrence with these new scoring events? If new players would hear a loud negative sound and a reduction of points from dropping pallets without thinking it could actually have them consider using caution next time they are at a pallet loop. They would also have to understand that if they want to rank up they’d have to be a lot more bold and have better chases instead of hiding a lot. This can work for new killers as well. If they are chasing a survivor for too long they’ll start to lose points in the chaser emblem with a negative noise notification along with a reduction scoring event leading them to eventually understand that going after the same survivor for too long is not the right play.
edit: of course the amount of blood points awarded for chases will be increased and I think you should get a bonus for being injured.
