Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

A Comparison: DBD Standard vs DBD Mobile

This is essentially a pro-con list since the 2 games are so very different. Feel free to add to it if you like. Though the points made are in no particular order, I’ll try to keep them in the same order for each version so you can easily make your comparison.
Standard
- Whether mouse/keyboard or controller, controls are good and comfortable.
- Can sometimes cause device to overheat (consoles in particular)
- DC’s, DC penalties (and then not, and then who knows), DC hatch tech....
- Very sound reliant. Sound bugs can be game-breaking.
- Rift
- One new ritual each day for bloodpoints. Usually killer-based. Applies to characters you have unlocked.
- Original characters can be unlocked for free if you grind out the shards.
- Bloodwebs provide items, offerings, add-ons, and perks.
- Character level and teachable perks are “bought” through the bloodweb. It is possible to have a high-level character that you’ve never played.
- Flashlight difficulty: mouse - medium , controller - hard
- Quick reactions possible (ie let go of generator, come to a dead stop from running when you find cover, end chainsaw sprint...)
- Tutorial, then play.
- KYF
- Very active forum
Mobile
- Controls are absolutely awful, but they’re about the best you could get on a touchscreen. Over time you’ll get used to it, but it can also hurt your hands. Customization would be nice.
- Hot hot hot! If you don’t have a plastic screen cover, your thumb will sweat and stick, making for difficult maneuvers. Very high battery consumption as well.
- Bots! DC’s are a nonissue. A player leaves, and the bot seamlessly takes over. Hatch tech cannot occur.
- Could be played just fine on mute, since all “sounds” are visual due to sound indicators. This includes terror radius in the form of a glowing heart in the survivor’s chest - with varying glow intensity. This can negate perks like Deerstalker since the markers guide you toward the slug anyway. Also makes perks like Stridor exceptionally powerful).
- No rift.
- 5 new rituals each day for bloodpoints, shards, cells, and items. Always 3 for killers and 2 for survivor. If you refresh one, there’s a good chance that the new one will apply to a character you don’t own. 5 additional weekly rituals every Sunday.
- ALL characters can be unlocked for free if you grind out the shards and cells.
- Blood Markets provide items, offerings, add-ons, and special mystery boxes. The boxes come in 3 rarities (bronze - 15,000 bp ; silver - 30,000 ; gold - 50,000). Any box can give any size shard reward (50/125/250) or any size cell reward (5/10/20). Gold boxes can also give cosmetic pieces.
- Character level and ALL perks are earned. You MUST play the character to level them up, earning one new usable perk (or perk tier) for each level. This is the only way to unlock teachables as well. If Trapper is using Nurse’s Calling, then you KNOW that player has put in the time on Nurse to be able to unlock it.
- Flashlights are nearly impossible to use, but practice helps a little.
- Reactions are sluggish due to “locked” actions. Run-lock, auto-repair on gens after starting, chainsaw sprint until cancel button is tapped. Double-edged sword, as it IS kinda nice to be able to let go sometimes, but can cause problems when you mis-tap a little button.
- Tutorial, then play. Soon-to-release practice mode against bots.
- No KYF (yet?)
- No forum, and posts about Mobile run the risk of being removed from the forums for Standard mode. (Btw mods, please don’t delete this as I’m trying to be careful to make this a true discussion for the community).
Okay well thats all I have for now. Please discuss and, again, feel free to add your own!

Oh I forgot a couple big ones.
Standard
- In lobbies, you have to wait for players to ready-up, and killers can change their character or loadout based on what they see. Survivors can make last-second switches.
- Ranks are a huge source of complaints and frustration, as this gives players something tangible to point at and say whether a match was fair or not.
Mobile
- Loadout and character selection are done on your time and locked one you start searching for a lobby. Once the lobby is full, the match immediately begins to load.
- Hidden ranks. You’ll sometimes get destroyed whichever role you play, but for the most part the matches seem pretty fair and balanced.
