How about fixing the hatchet hitboxes for real now?

When you play huntress and hit a survivor with a hatchet, there are 3 situations: you get an accurate and proper hit, you get a hit that should not count and you dont see it or you manage to do the same thing, but this time you realise it and laugh at it or complain of the hitbox. Only when you play survivor and also have a bad game (being on the first hook and enter the second stage until you get rescued, playing genuinely bad because it happens, and you know, after a mistake, more are to come and all). Now you can feel how frustrating is to be hit by the huntress' hatchet and you can come here on the forum crying about it, only then.:) So... are we gonna see some changes to these hit registrations again in the future ??

    Nah, huntress is good as she is tbh, yes her hitboxes can be a lil crazy at points but leave her like that, I'd prefer they work on theirs bugs than hitboxes being broken since she came

    Its not even her hitboxes, its latency. Plus im all for keeping them the way they are, you know how hard it would be if you needed deathslinger accuracy on console? She would just be another unplayable killer and we already have nurse. Its borderline on console as it is with her.

    I guess server side hitboxes would more than probably solve the issue. wait & see.

    Nah huntress is the one case of actual hit boxes. Her hatchet hitboxes are beachball shaped when obviously the actual hatchet isn't. The one time they tried to fix this they legitimately properly broke her and haven't tried it since.

    Here's an explanation from Peanits about huntress hatchet hitboxes:




    Regarding hatchet hitboxes: They were changed to not be spherical a while back, but the change needed to be reverted (as others have mentioned in the thread). I'll have to bust out my amazing drawing skills. This is what the hitboxes look like:




    The survivor has a "capsule" shaped box around them. This determines where they can run and whether or not the killer can hit them. This hitbox does not change, the only exception is that it's a little shorter when you crouch. If it did change, it would cause all sorts of issues in a chase. You would be bumping into stuff constantly.


    The hatchets, on the right, have a spherical hitbox.


    Why?




    When a survivor is injured, they're slouched over as they run. In the example above, you can see what that's important. The hitbox of the hatchet overlaps with the hitbox of the survivor, so the hatchet hits.


    Now if you were to make it more closely match the size of the hatchet, you'd end up with this:




    In spite of the hatchet going right through the survivor (visually), it does not touch the survivor's hitbox, and so the hatchet would miss. We have tried this change and the past, but it was reverted because it caused a lot of issues like this.


    To go back to the first hit, this is the scenario that played out:




    This is what the killer sees. It looks a little weird because of the survivor's animation, but the hitboxes overlapped. But then you need to factor in latency:




    This is what the survivor sees (with what the killer sees faded out). Latency sucks, you can't really get rid of it. It's a fact of life with online games. There's always going to be a slight discrepancy in online games. Since the hit is currently handled on the killer's end, even 100 ping can make a difference. (Survivor running at 4m/s x 0.1 = 40cm difference between what the killer sees and what the survivor sees.)


    The ultra short version: Hatchet hitboxes can't change unless the survivor hitboxes are completely reworked, but latency is also in play.

    It's not the hatchets, it's dedicated servers.

    You also forgot one situation: the hatchet goes directly through the survivor.

    I don't think it's so much the hitboxes but the animations that need to be tweaked a bit. I think it's in a similar vein to Freddy and Ghostface when they hit you but there is a gap.

    Edit: Latency is also an issue. When they add in the new server detection hits hopefully some of "those" shots will disappear.

    Yup, I played against survivors with all 100- ping and my hatchet hitbox was surprisingly small I actually had to make some effort to be exact. It's just latency mate cause killer powers are server-sided.

    no i been hit with the BS Hatchet but playing as huntress i missed alot of hits with the Hatchet too the survivor hitboxes is odd time when i feel it should hit it doesn't then time where is shouldn't it does.
