Deathgarden servers are off as of 8/12. What has BHVR learned from this?

Deathgarden died due to failed Marketing no we don't need to be worried it was a project that was doomed to fail from the start. The only good thing that came out of it tbh was the cosmetics for dbd lets be real thats the only reason most bought it.

DG had two releases. the first release was a flop because nobody wanted to play hunter as runners could stun lock the hunter and just bully the ever loving hell out of them.
Second release the hunter was powerful and the game practically required voice chat on the runners side to win so nobody wanted to play runner.
I suspect that this is why they keep survivors to strong and decent killers are being gutted in dbd because they are afraid that this game will go the same way if they actually balance the game.

Deathgarden had too much visual noise for me to get into. Let's look at Dead by Daylight. It's a relaxing game with horror moments.
Killer: Do do dooo~ Walkin' around. Oh hey there's a survivor. Do do dooo~ walkin' around the rock, aw yiss, got a hit. Stop for a minute. Doot doo doo~ time to walk around some more.
Survivor: Sittin' on the gen. Do do doo~ Nice and relaxing. Where's the killer? Swivel the camera a little. Killers not here (OHGODMICHAELGRAB) I can continue my gen. Do do doo~ Yee, gen done. Time to find another!
Deathgarden: PICK UP THE POWER UPS OH GOD TURRETS OH GOD WE'RE TAKING HEAVY FIRE WHERE'S MY HEALER AAAAAAAAAAAAA.

I only heard of this a few days ago and I game all the time, have well over a thousand games on Steam, etc. The marketing must've been extremely poor for me to literally have never even heard the name before. Honestly, the footage I saw looked really cool and like a fun evolution of DBD's style, but clearly it suffered from heavy balance issues. They need to hire a serious balance team or something.

I followed this game religiously for a bit, hoping it would do well and come to console. Sad it didn’t do well, but then they added Deathslinger to DbD so, I’ve recovered~

Asymmetrical games tend to be very very difficult to balance. The 4 must be weaker because they have the advantage of numbers. The one must be stronger than the other 4 otherwise you will just get bullied. Look what happened to Evolve and Evolve Stage 2.

Killer is being buffed constantly. They aren't gutting the best killers by any stretch.

The hillbilly update was a buff?

Yes it was. Just like the nurse rework :P

My mistake then.

Evolve came out and it was fun but broken. It was literally FULL of microtransactions. As AngryJoe said "Is this blue? #########. YOUR CHARGING ME 2 DOLLARS FOR A !$#&ING BLUE GUN!!!" It looked more like a mobile game. They made a deal with the console owners that they could only patch the game every 4 months. So if there was a bug or an exploit you can bet it's going to be in there for a long time. The MM was worse than DbD's. You could be brand new and get matched against a monster whose on a 30+ win streak. People see that and dc and replaced with brain dead bots. In that game the 4 hunters literally had to work together to even stand a chance. If one got dropped it was a domino effect from there. That game was not meant for solo unless you were a monster and your que times were 20 mins. If you didnt have friends you didnt play solo because 1 random can screw up everything. Not like in dbd........okay randoms suck but in evolve if 1 person screwed up you ALL died. There was no recovery, hatch, 2nd chance perks. You either crushed the opponent or they crushed you. Very few matches that were close. Most games I could tell a some point in the match where the match was lost.
The game flopped and a few years later they released evolve stage 2. It was more like an overhaul of the first game than a sequel. It had a revamped perk system, new abilities, balances, every unlock-able could be purchased with in game currency and it was free to play on steam. It was great for a few months. Then they stopped balancing them game and started cranking out "new" characters. Which honestly were just characters with a different skin and slightly different abilities but mostly the same as the originals. Less thought into balancing the game and more crap to try to sell us in the store. People stopped playing because it wasn't balanced then 2K pulled the plug. Would have been nice if they at least left it up and running. If it was id still go back and play it with some friends.

What has BHVR learned? That Dead by Daylight was a 1/1,000,000 one hit wonder. BHVR hadn't had any real success before DBD, and has a zero percent success rate after DBD.

Evolve was an absolutely incredible game completely ruined by aggressive over-monetization, severe lack of tutorialization, and awful balancing.
Sounds kind of familiar, when I put it that way...

I got it for free when they swapped to f2p.
You guys paid for a Meg and Trapper mask?

Yes it was apart of the bonus but due to the game dying they did a free week most people didn't take advantage of it either way they're exclusive now so it is what it is and in my honest opinion it should stay that way. People had more then enough chances to get them and some just didn't some people just don't learn to take advantage of something free.

I've played many MMOs, too many to list here really, that started off B2P with a monthly sub and then went F2P when it started waning, starting with LOTRO like 10+ years ago (which was the first one that did this, not first MMO), and it *ALWAYS* absolutely ruins the game. They get super greedy and it's flooded with cheaters/bots/######### children/gold farmers/whatever and stops being worth the time/money almost immediately.

Indeed. Was sad when that game died.
When they unveiled that the best monster in the game was behind a paywall, the writing was on the wall - cause they nerfed all the other monsters up to that point to the point where even a half decent team turned it into a pushover.
That being said, Turtle Rock, the company behind Evolve, is making a "spiritual successor" to Left 4 Dead called "Back 4 Blood". I hope they don't screw it up the same way. L4D is very close to my heart. Some of the most fun I've ever had in a game.

F2P is the death knell. Not sure what's hard to understand about this.

It was a great game, but 2K got their hands on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if most stupid decisions came from them forcing Turtle Rock Studios to accept them. Turtle Rock wasn’t perfect, but they weren’t the main reason Evolve struggled.
It also released too early. Had it released now, it would’ve thrived. People would’ve been fine with the DLC prices (which were actually pretty fair considering how hard and expensive it was to make a new character). They buy loot boxes and season passes. DBD’s skin prices are ludicrous but people still eat them up! $10-15 for a skin and $4-5 for a character (which can be bought at least two at a time in chapters) versus $2-3 for a Monster skin or set of weapon skins (skin bundles were $5-7) and $5 or $10 for a new Hunter or Monster. Hell, even Call of Duty was selling gun skins for $2! Everyone unfortunately just jumped on the “evolve bad” bandwagon.
