Same country, same state, vastly different experiences - how is this possible?

So my friends and I are both based in Western Australia, Australia, no more than 30km apart.

On a weekend, when there is a plethora of Australian players around, they get decent matchups, with Australian/NZ players and a sprinkling of SEA players.

I instead, get matched with Reds and Purples, nearly always from Thailand or Phillipines, flashlight trolling me or behaving toxic, only for them to tell me to "die of covid" or spam the chat with similar nonsense.

They also get matched with crossplay players - in four games as killer, I was not matched once with a crossplay player.

Furthermore, the only time I have been has been with a console killer when I've played survivor.

I have crossplay active.

Is there any way you can set your region preference because it's sucking the fun out of the game.
