Ethics & Customs of DBD

Options

So i was wondering, as a fairly new player, about a week and a half, aka since the steam sale, what customs and ethical things i should know?

I play an even mix of killer and survivor. I always let the final person go when I player killer and do well. and people seem to like that. It just seems like a common decency thing to me. Even if ruthless gave me extra points, it probably would not be enough to beat the 5k the last survivor gets.

Coming from a legion game against 3-4 console players where i did exactly that, it made me think to ask what other fairly well established common decency things I should know?

I do avoid camping, adn i never face camp. Granted I might kick a generator near the hook, but i always leave for at least a while, and if I have to go past a hooked person i never linger. I know thats a big no-no in most peoples eyes, and is kinda a crappy strategy for the killer anyway. Granted, sometimes I am forced to psuedo camp because the survivors rush right past me and won't just wait for me to leave, provoking me to attack them.

Do what you want honestly, as long as you're not harassing people after the match or breaking rules in some other ways play how you want.

I tend to play pretty "nice" myself because I personally find it more fun to play that way, there's nothing wrong with doing so as long as you don't expect others to follow the same personal rules.

    The are only three rules:

    1. Don't hack.
    2. Don't disconnect in the middle of the game.
    3. Don't be salty, insulting, profane, etc. in the pre-game or after game chatter.

Those are the only customs and ethics that matter. In the game you can do whatever the heck else you want if it is tactically valid for that given match. That includes bringing powerful Perk combinations as a Survivor or a Killer. You can camp, tunnel, mori, or work with the other Survivors to repeatedly stun a Killer into the ground.

In general, good sportsmanship is simply to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

Don't get caught up into playing the way survivors want you to play when you are playing killer. That will do nothing for you except give you losses, that's really all you should care about as killer.

As survivor just don't be a toxic #########.

Do what you do. Just like people are saying "you don't have to play the way survivors want you to play", you also don't have to play the way those people are telling you to play.

When I play killer, I usually do the same unless I need to kill everyone for an achievement or a challenge. I also don't slug often and don't camp and don't tunnel.

Not because it's what survivors want, but because that's the kind of person I am. Also the survivor main in me knows how boring that is to play against.

You're not bound by any rules apart from hacks, exploits etc. It sounds like you want to be fairly "nice", which is cool, I usually let the last one go and avoid the tunnelling camping stuff. But don't feel too bound by it, if you've hooked someone and they're swarming around you have no sensible reason to leave. If gens are flying it's fine to get a few of them on the floor before hooking them. And don't feel discouraged if you get called a camper, tunneler etc even when you've made an effort to not do that, it's just salt.
