Entitlement, where does it come from?
As a killer main who has been playing since around 2017 I never touched survivor and got a "killer mentality" where all survivors are toxic and whatever else you might think. Recently though a lot of my friends have been getting into dbd and I have started playing survivor with them. The more I learned about both sides made me realize that both killers and survivors can be, and a lot of the time toxic (mainly around rank 5-1). Now I think the "survivor rulebook" isn't laughable anymore, it's just sad that a game makes players feels as if they need to make their own rules.
People play the game to have fun, and they do, but dbd has a lot of extremes. What I mean by extremes is perks, items, or offerings that can completely change how the games play out with little to no counter play. With some exceptions of camping and tunneling, because these things are so prominent in a game like dbd you can feel "cheated" out of a game, like you just wasted your time and got nothing from it. These are things the devs need to address and fix, but players should not have to be held responsible for how they want to play.
Dead by daylight should be a game where you can play however you want, but the game itself makes it feel as if you can't. Toxic people exist outside of this still, getting death threats or harsh slurs thrown at you should be a bannable offense, but camping and tunneling is completely fine and whoever does it should not be targeted for insults. I am not saying that I enjoy getting camped or tunneled, but it is apart of the game and should be balanced in such a way where it feels fair or feels more approachable.
I believe that people who gain their entitlement in dbd are the same people who have faced toxicity and have felt cheated so they feel as if they deserve to be compensated for it.
How do you feel on the state of dbd? How do you feel about different strategies and killers?
These are just my thoughts, take them with a gran of salt :)

Killers can keep camping and tunneling as long as they stop crying about seeing a DS or BT every game. What did you think was going to happen when you used the hook mechanic to your advantage, survivors were just going to roll over and let you? Perks are fine, strategies are fine, only real problem is actual toxicity but that's rare and bannable.

This isn’t a DBD phenomenon. In today’s society everyone gets a participation trophy. It has instilled in a lot of people that because they do something no matter how little effort or how skilled they are in that thing, they should be rewarded. This happens in schools, on the job, in video games, it’s everywhere.

I really hope these problems become less apparent when mmr gets fixed, one can only hope

In my opinion it comes from living in a world where the majority of people confuse their own feelings with facts. They have fed their own confirmation bias for so long they greatly overestimate their own abilities.

It comes from people thinking they're better than they really are. And either anyone who plays differently is 'bad', or killers who beat them (or survivors) were 'cheaters/unfair'. After all, can't ever be their fault they lost.

some people just like to cite this as the cause of all ills to make a simplified world view they can understand without looking for any of the causes and effects for any of the problems they assign "participation trophy mentality" to. entitlement existed long before this and it will be around long after.
For killers it seems the pip system in primarily to blame in particular how absolute wins are judged for the killer's performance makes no sense. a 3 minute game with 10+ hooks and 0 completed gens is a depip or a tie? really? why, just cuz hatch spawned under someone who was slugged? the killer pip system and emblem system are the only gauges how well a killer does and they do this really really badly.

I think the state of DbD suuuuucks. It still functions, but it's painful to think too much about all the things that could be done to fix it that are not being done.
Entitlement comes from expectations, in this case: the expectations of having a fun game and not being ****ed over by severs or assorted frustrations. If you just realize that everything is never going to get significantly better and realize you've got to be okay with reality cus it is what it is, then entitlement goes away!

I blame the matchmaker or lack there of.
It's easy to get used to endless escapes/4ks that when someone finally loses, something is wrong with the game.
