Is Self-Care one of the reason why gen speed is so fast?
Nerfing the perk made the majority of players not use it anymore because it wastes quite a lot of time, add sloppy and a good survivor wouldn’t even bother to heal. Even though self care before it’s nerf wasted a bit of time, it was a solid perk to run in most survivors builds (Healing speed was faster and Sloppy wasn’t buffed yet)
Gen speed is really odd to me, gens back then did not get done as fast as they do now. Survivors before had good toolboxes and old Leader (which affected gen speed, +9%) and they still didn’t get done as fast as they do today. Do you guys think that maybe nerfing self-care made survivors adapt over time and that’s one of the reason why gen speed is so fast?

Nerfing ruin made gens go boom really fast

yea it was ruin most couldn't hit that great skill check so gen were slowed down by that not gen like you said go boom in mins.

That is an incredibly misleading title

Like others said its ruin but also i discovered recently that as fast as ive seen gens go, they go A LOT faster when playing PC swf. The mindset of the player is really what does it
...why people enjoy pumping out gens while being in a SWF with all meta perks is beyond me. I mean yeah its an easy win but one time I played Minecraft PVP and got a bunch of easy wins against toddlers, it gets old pretty fast lol

I never used Ruin before so I wouldn’t know, I have always been using Corrupt and Pop as my gen slowdown perks. I never counted on Ruin because it was a terrible perk. It was 50/50 if it was going to be found within seconds of the match or Survivors hit their great skill checks.

I am not talking about Ruin lol. Survivors not using self-care anymore, now give them extra time to do gens and focus less on Healing.
1 -
Primarily yes.
Once self care got the nerf the phrase "non heal meta" was coined. Many of us said this would happen at the time. Even the devs seemed reluctant for a long time to change the perk as they always said it took them off gens and seemed to actively want players to heal up.
We also had a sloppy change which made self care even less attractive.
The issue with self care of course was the potential to heal within a chase so it did need a change. Maybe it should have just been made slower within a chase instead?
The ruin change did make it seem worse but thats probably due to players now finishing the gen before going for a save as it makes more sense if you have enough progress to still make the save anyway. Only killers who have mobility enough to keep survivors off gens are worth running the perk on now imo.

Yes, this is what I mean. Less time healing = More time on gens. So the self-care nerf did impact gen times. Thank you

should been made slower within a chase instead not in a chase stay normal.

OP is accurate. You really have nothing better to do other than sit on gens. You just plot a path to go when the killer comes and sit on the gen until/if the killer comes. Self care needs a....band-aid fix.

I don’t know if reverting self care would change things at this point, but that was the start. It’s important to reflect on a potential change, and think of what the cost/benefits will be in the long run. But back then, it was “NERF SELF CARE! NERF SELF CARE!”
Same thing now. It’s all nerf DS, nerf second chance perks, etc. What’s the cost of THAT going to be? DS already got a hard nerf from what it used to be. Just saying

Gen speed is fast because
A. survivors have the attention span of a ferret
B. they don't want the gens to collectively take longer then someone takes to die on hook because of camping.

I use self care and dont care...ill finish a gen to 99% then heal or pop it for adrenline if i have it or wait for adrenaline to pop off.i take time to heal regardless, always time to heal when safe but i also run iron will so im not pressed and also i dont heal by a killer with iron will because can hear bandages.....so i would say yes in a sense but it really not directly responsible,if anything would indirectly depending ob nunerous other factors such as innter strength

I miss the days when you could use ruin and pop at the same time 😭.

The fact that survivors are given all of their chase resources for free is the reason gens go by so quickly.
1 -
I wouldn't call it the only reason why gens are fast, but a factor. That and the changes to Ruin without an answer to the problem they fixed was another major issue.

Gens still flew by with ruin. Hitting a great isn’t difficult
1 -
There were people (especially on console) where ruin did actually do work. They couldn't hit the skill check, or the gen progress was slowed regardless. Even if they hit only greats, it took more time than a no ruin gen.
Gen speeds are really only a problem if killers can't get any pressure in the early game. I think it is ludicrous that 3 gens can get done before a single down, but the devs don't think so.

I can’t remember The last time I lost 3 gens that quickly. I try to protect gens and split pressure though. Gotta know when to drop a chase and know the map

It took a while for me to drop Self Care, but I'm glad I did.
Typically a no heal game ends really fast. People who tend to not heal are pretty good at running the killer around for the time needed to finish gens.

I try to gain pressure immediately, but almost nobody on Xbox plays by themselves anymore, and I don't like crossplay at all.

Console is SWF central. You can literally put everyone in queue in a lobby and all be mic’ed up in under 60 sec. While I think people throw around “SWF” far too often, Xbox/PS4 definitely face it more regularly

I disagree with the premise; I don't think gen speeds are substantially faster now than in the past. Ruin was a great perk, but Pop is stronger than Old Ruin was and it was criminally underused when Old Ruin was a thing. Old Ruin would win matches by itself if the totem stayed up, but good luck with that at high rank.
If anything's different, survivors seem more aware of the fact that healing is often a waste of time and splitting up and rushing gens is a good strategy against most killers.

I mostly agree, but if three gens are done before a down and you're not Trapper or Hag, you are doing something wrong. It's pretty catastrophic to not get a hook, or at least pressure multiple people, for the first 90 seconds or so (assuming no CI and that survivors get right on gens).

Old Ruin and Pop worked together very well. Pop was buffed, which made it more popular to use

I remember arguing with a lot of "killer mains" about how negative a self-care nerf would be - next to nobody agreed with me and now we're here.
1 -
I still don't think people were as aware of Pop as they should have been until Ruin died. I'm pretty sure Ruin was 3.4.0 or 3.5.0 and Pop was 3.0.0, but I don't remember people using Pop much before Ruin got nerfed.

It's a lot of things. Ruin, and the most popular killers being Freddy and Spirit as well as the new maps being awful make survivors just wanna get out of the game as fast as possible and not deal with that any longer than they have to. Plus people are simply better at the game now and know not to waste time.

3 main reasons
1. Assuming what you mean as "back then" im going to assume pre ruin nerf. Ruin played a huge part in making gen speeds lower. In short ruin got nerfed
2. Again with "back then" im again assuming pre ruin nerf. Survivors back then weren't as smart as they were today. Trust me just look at any dbd video during 2016 and 2017. The amount of power survivors had was astonishing, they just didn't know how to use them to the fullest potential. Survivors now know how to actually loop efficiently to waste the killer's time and do gens. Also some survivors just got more brave and comfortable while injured and would avoid healing just to rush gens (I can relate) in short survivors just got smarter.
3. The healing nerf. Before the heal speed nerf self care was considered best perk in the game. But now eversince the healing speeds got dunked on AND THE SLOPPY NERF self care just became too slow. Its not a bad perk though.
Summarized,
Survivors just got better, ruin nerf, healing nerf made survivors prioritize gens more.
I dont think self care made gen speeds faster i think it was just the reasons i gave above. And no i will not count healing speed nerf as a self care nerf lmao cus it caused every type of healing to get nerfed

Sometimes there isn't anything you do wrong but they are still done regardless. You can't just say that there is anything one can do. Map RNG can be very survivor sided or killer sided, and there can be very little you can do if a team really wants to tryhard.

Actually, it's people realizing No Mither+Self Care gives you that insta heal.
Thank me later :-)
