An in-depth rework of Spirit
Easily one of the most controversial killers in the game, Spirit has gained the ire of many a player for how her power forces guesses and interaction on both sides. The most common point brought up when discussing how her power is unfair to go against is how survivors are given very little information when a Spirit starts phasing and have to rely on luck to avoid a hit.
I would argue that there's for more interaction to going against a Spirit than just guessing, but that's not what this post is about. But before I get into how I am proposing to change her, I want to explain why. And in a single word:
Feedback.
I'll use Nurse as an example:
- Nurse begins charging up a blink, allowing survivors to know how far she'll teleport.
- Nurse blinks to her target location and clear visual and audio indicators.
- Nurse reappears and only has 2 seconds to either charge up another blink or attack.
- Nurse attacks.
Everything about the Nurse's power is designed to let survivors know what she's going to do. Now take Spirit's:
- Spirit stands still, forcing survivors to guess when she starts phasing
- Spirit reappears from phasing and attacks
Now granted there are ways to get more feedback from her like running Spine Chill or listening to her footsteps at close range. But otherwise there's very little information that survivors get before they are hit. So the 2 main goals of my changes are to give survivors more feedback that the Spirit is using her power and buff her accordingly so she's more on par with Nurse.
Here is her new power:
Press and hold the power button to leave your body as a husk
- As a husk you move extremely quickly but cannot attack.
- Survivors can see you entering husk form but cannot see you as a husk.
After cancelling your power or the duration runs out you will rapidly phase along the path you made a husk
- Any survivor you touch while phasing will cancel your phase and injure them.
- You can attack out of a phase to cancel it prematurely
Here's a rough sketch of the Spirit and survivor at the shack showing how it would work.
- The Spirit moves forward as a husk, shown by the dotted line, and cancels her power at the X.
- The Spirit starts phasing along the path she made as a husk. She would rapidly twitch forward, similarly to how she sometimes passively phases.
- The Spirit reaches the end of her trail.
Although obviously taking quite some development time to properly implement, I believe this rework of the Spirit's power would ease the complaints that people have about her power not giving enough information and give a greater layer of depth when playing as her.
What do all of you think? Be as critical as possible about this idea.

Other possible solution: Glock+Head="Balanced rework"
But all jokes aside, that sounds pretty good.

These are some nice things to think about.
But what I am afraid about are some of the hate you might get.

What do you mean "hate"?

Glad you think so. Why do you think the idea is good?

People attacking you because of people thinking Spirit is totally balanced and doesn’t need any changes. She is like you said a highly controversial killer.

I've yet to see anyone like that thankfully.

Well, like you said, it gives survivors a warning. I think that's good.
However, if the teleport takes too long, the information spirit gets may get quickly outdated. You may need to clarify that.

Have to pick a trail, then again follow that trail.
Sounds good on paper, but Im afraid, like people said, the moment Spirit follow the trail, the info would be outdated.
Spirit has to pre-guess survivors' movement, because they never stand still in chase.
And eventually the moment shes phasing, Survivors just break a 90o angle.
This power only work on Interrupting, if phasing doesnt make sound.

1st on Spirits, everyone knows, so easy to down injured survivors. Because:
Able to see scratch mark
Hearing
Healthy survivor can stop running and walk to another direction. Injured one cant, either running away leaving scratch mark, or walk and Spirit hears them moaning
2nd problems, Spirit lose 2 info: seeing survivors, seeing blood. While survivors dont have any info: cant see her, dont know if shes phasing, no phasing sound when in TR.
My rework for Spirit is to focus more on easy to down injured survivors, but make it much harder to hit healthy one.
- Spirit cant see scratch mark, but see blood trail.
- Survivors always hearing phasing sound, in or out TR.
- Survivors start hearing phasing sound if Spirit phasing is in 24m radius, the closer, the louder (can estimate Spirit phasing distance)
- Spirit bright up alot when start to phasing.

You wouldn't try to directly hit survivors by phasing into them most of the time. You'd corral them by making a trail in the most optimal path for the survivor to take and force them to run somewhere that's unsafe since the moment they run away from where you're phasing you can cancel it.
This isn't much different from how Spirit is now since the best way to get downs with her is to phase in the general area of the survivor, rather than try to land right on top of them most of the time.

It's hard to give an exact time for everything, mainly the speed, since I currently have no way to test any of this.
That being said, I'm positive that there's a perfect speed for everything to be at so this rework is balanced.

Honestly all I want is her Husk to glow White for a second or two when she begins phasing so I know to adjust my plan.
And to remove the "Mindgame" at a dropped Pallet.

I agree, just add glow white when shes phasing. And able to hear phasing sound either in or out TR. That would be enough fix, and simple.
