Had to Throw This Out Here
So I play both sides. And I get it, it's rough as a killer, and as a solo survivor, and heck, even as a SWF when you're being put with a Rank 1 Killer with 5000 while you're trying to talk your friend through how gens work because they just installed the game- or when your teammates sacrafice themselves to the killer. (Sorry to my SWF, but Daddy Myers must always get my kill.)
But I mean, should there really be so much issue over people talking about what killers are boring to play against because of the lack of real mindgame potential.
For example: I love playing Spirit. I really do. Her power is really fun to use, I enjoy her lore, and she has a good mori. (Her skins are a bit lackluster though, I will admit.) And she's just really satisfying to play. (And stronger then most of the killers I tend to enjoy, which feels really nice.)
But as a Survivor? Playing against a Spirit is awful. She can just... stand there and get free hits. If she runs Stridor, your Iron Will is useless, and you're probably going to die unless the Spirit makes a mistake (which, as a Spirit, your mistakes can be very forgiving.)
Is this terrible? No. I think it's fine that there are killers like Spirit, or Deathslinger, or Pyramid Head who can shut down loops without much feedback. But I think people forget that, when you are playing a killer like that, you get the same feeling as a survivor that you will get as killer when you feel robbed of a kill because of Borrowed, or a down because of DS+Unbreakable.
To add to this, I think a lot of the complaint against those killers is that the only real counterplay that people bring up is stealth. And yes, I do love a good stealth play (Metal Gear is one of my favorite games for a reason), but as a killer, it's not fun to play against, and it's not always fun or viable as a survivor. (Let's face it, it's not viable for a Neon Nea to try to blend into a bush, but some of the best Survivor cosmetics are the bright ones.)
So no, characters like Deathslinger probably shouldn't get nerfed to the ground. But we should at least let people acknowledge it's just... not fun to play against. I'm not sorry that I will reserve the right to groan in agony when I realize I'm facing a Deathslinger, Oni, or Freddy, because I'm about to feel like I just got cucked.
