Technician completely useless now?

Not that this perk was anywhere close to great before, but I realize with the new generator animations and sounds that regardless of whether or not you have Technician equipped, the sounds are essentially the same. It looks like this perk’s main benefit now is the chance to not alert the killer with a failed skill check.
Is it just me that notices this (or uses this perk on one of my characters to begin with)?
