Introduction

Hey! Welcome back to the last entry of the Challenge Preservation Guide series. For those of you that're tuning in to the last entry of this limited series, allow me to explain what it's about. This is simply the entry into a limited series I've created that focuses on a specific "technique" that a lot of streamers use.

What is this technique? Well, To keep things within a reasonable and understandable context, this "technique" focuses on preserving specific challenges in a level for use later on. This is primarily used for later use during a new DLCs release, which allows streamers and players to effectively day 1 prestige 3 a Killer or Survivor from that new DLC.

Unfortunately due to the recent chapter "Descend Beyond" releasing before Level 4s release, it should be noted that this entry will primarily focus on how to preserve the level itself without actually having any practical use for it after Tome 4s conclusion. It can be preserved for the next DLC if one so chooses, but it's recommend to only preserve levels for the upcoming DLCs that correspond to them.

However if you do decide to keep it regardless, than it should be noted that the Rift Fragments for Tome 4 will not carry over to Tome 5, just the Blood-Points.

A SHORT DISCLAIMER

Keep in-mind that I'm only human and that I might make a mistake that costs a few saved BPs on the way. That's why I encourage those who do take this example to go over it yourself just to be sure, if you want to that is. A full explanation will be provided below if needed.

[TOME 4] - LEVEL 4 CHALLENGES - 510,000 BLOOD-POINTS SAVED

image.png

This is the complete preservation route for Tome 4 - Level 2s challenges, created by me and revised by @Fibijean for a quick and simple review. Unlike before, this route was actually very easy to create due to the limited amount of paths I was able to take. A lot of the preserved nodes are stuck in "dead zones" that make it hard to work with, so unfortunately there wasn't much room for creativity.

If you follow the routes specific guidelines than you'll be saving 470,000 blood-points as a result, which can be used elsewhere at your leisure.

HOW TO FOLLOW THE GUIDE

As you can see above, there are two color coded circles or "nodes" that're accompanied by two lines that connect to one another.

The red lines that connect to the blue nodes are explaining what challenges you're completing and claiming the rewards to, while the yellow lines show you which challenges are unlocked for completion. The yellow nodes indicate which challenges can be completed and preserved for later use.

Anything new with this level?

Unfortunately no, as said above this level was fairly straight forward when it came to creating the route for it. There wasn't a lot of room for different routes due to how it was structured, so it was a fairly simple process when creating this final entry.

As the revised version suggests, only the nodes that're detached from the rest of the route were the ones that got preserved, while the ones that made up most of the route were completed and claimed. If the route was structured differently with some of it's paths, than there could be more to work with. Sadly, this was not the case.

AN IMPORTANT DRAWBACK TO THE GUIDE ITSELF

By following this guide you're cutting out a portion of the shards you would've received from these specifically preserved challenges. Now you might ask "what does this mean?" and to be blunt, it means your grind for each tier on The Rift will be slightly longer due to the loss of those shards when they're preserved.

This might not be an issue since a new DLC usually drops around the ending portion of each active Rift, if of course you're just using it for the new DLC. If it's for something else that's after that active Rift ends, than a lot more bonus games are required to make up for that shard loss.

Usually when completing every level for a new tome you're rewarded with around 30 to 34 tiers of shards. So around 300 to 340 shards are rewarded if every challenge is completed and claimed. When cutting around half of those challenges out of this equation, it looks to be more around 20 to 25 tiers or 200 to 250 shards depending on how many challenges are preserved. Usually when preserving challenges you're preserving the most challenges you can to actively claim later, so the amount of shards you get because of this may vary.

So to be more specific, if you're looking to follow this guide to use these challenges for anything outside of the active rifts life-cycle, than you're looking at a lot more work to put in to gain more shards that you lost because of the guide itself.

A player averages around 400 to 500 exp on a regular game, while 600 to 700 for a optimal game. The exp rates can change depending on the role, but the overall amount of games you will need to make up for those shards is a lot more as a result. 800 exp is required for 1 passive shard which the rift gives you when you meet this requirement, so do keep this in-mind if you go along with this guide but don't use any of the preserved rewards outside of that active rifts life-cycle.

AN EXPLANATION FOR NON-SELECTED, IN-PROGRESS, COMPLETED, OR PRESERVED CHALLENGES

image.png

To start off, this is what a brand new challenge looks like when a new tome or level is introduced. Usually these are simply called "non-selected" or "unfinished" challenges. These in-complete challenges are also present in tomes or levels you have not completed prior.

image.png

This is what an in-progress challenge looks like, the bright blue light and shimmering effects that come off it indicate that the challenge is currently being worked on. A challenge will look like this when you select a blank or "non-selected" challenge that has no color to it.

image.png

This is what a preserved challenge looks like when you completed it but did not claim the rewards to it. This is what you're doing to the yellow nodes above to preserve their rewards. Once the "in-progress" challenge is completed, it'll change to this specific icon to reflect that the rewards are ready to be claimed.

Completed but unclaimed challenges also don't provide new routes to other challenges, so it's optional to take different routes to preserve certain challenges or complete specific challenges to gain access to others. When going over which nodes you want to preserve, you want to preview which routes to take to avoid losing more BPs than it's worth. Essentially speaking, each decision you make has an affect on other routes and challenges you could or could've preserved.

With all that being said, the example provided above is what I believe to be the most optimal route you could take for this level of Tome 4, so it's ultimately unnecessary to go over it even more.

image.png

This is what a completed challenge looks likethis means that the challenges rewards were claimed and the challenge itself changes to this color to reflect that. When a challenge is completed and the rewards are claimed, it provides new routes to other challenges that you can do. It's important to be aware of this when you're devising your own routes or following the example above.

a final message for this series

Unfortunately this is the last entry to this series and there will be no further entries for Tome 5 or beyond afterwards. This decision may change in the future, but after some thought during the creation of Level 2 for Tome 4, it was decided that this would be the last entry to the limited series.

I'm sorry to those that looked forward to these updates as a reference, but there will no longer be any more entries at this time and possible never will be again. If you're curious as to why, I'll keep it brief. As time went on when creating this series I noticed that not many people really found it interesting, so I didn't personally see any point in continuing it if hardly anyone used it.

As a result I didn't think it was worth the time, so I decided to only do these as a one off guide rather than a series itself, it's in my opinion better that way since a one off guide is universal and can be relevant during any Tome or Level. I would like to thank everyone who was encouraging during this process and those of you who stuck around and used it as a reference, example, or even just to observe the process itself.

I would also like to give a big thanks to @Fibijean for her contribution towards the creation of these entries as well. I know I've said it many times before, but it was truly helpful towards the process of each entry.

Like always I do hope you enjoyed this entry and got some use out of it, stay tuned for the "master preservation guide" that I will be creating in the guide sub-discussion. When that will be is up to the future, but it will be coming eventually. As a quick explanation as to what a "master preservation guide" is, it'll basically be just a general guide for old or new players to use if they need some inspiration or examples to work off of. Nothing crazy of course, just a standard guide for a niche practice.

But again I do hope you found some use out of this entry and thank you all for the support. Stay safe out there, see you in the fog...
