Why don't exhausted survivors breathe louder?
If they really are exhausted, they should breathe heavier or louder, it only makes sense. This should be a secondary effect that exhaustion has.

I'd be down for this if it wasn't for the fact that it'd make spirit even more of a nightmare to go against.
"Oh YoU jUsT cAnT uSe YoUr CrUtCh DeAd HaRd"
No. Head On at most. But if they ever add in good Exhaustion perks for killer, or the Mindbreaker buff is actually substantial, of there's a sloppy/mindbreaker/blood echo spirit with Father's Glassess, it'll be atrocious to face, worse than it is currently.
5 -
Now that would be a nice downside to exhausted.
5 -
First they would need to nerf spirit, because that "downside" would make her 100% op with stridor.
4 -
Being exhausted is not really a downside, it does nothing to negatively affect your game.
14 -
Spirit is in a whole different ballpark, of course she's going to need some changes before this happens.
1 -
Change spirit and I'd be down. Also fix the Iron Will bug so survivors actually breathe.
2 -
I don't think they will ever fix that bug, it's been in the game since release sadly :(.

Exhausted isn't a downside, it doesn't hinder you in any way whatsoever. All it does is prevent the perk from activating over and over.
A downside would be like STBFL where you have to intentionally avoid hitting the obsession. It is causing you a negative effect that you would not have otherwise.
7 -
You choosing to run a certain perk would make spirit op?
How about just not running an exhaustion perk?
2 -
A cooldown isn't really a downside - it's to curb it's power so you don't have infinite i-frames or 150% movement speed constantly.
Being permanently being Broken in exchange your ability to stand up again infinitely, slightly reduced grunts of pain noise and no blood droplets ... that's a downside and why it isn't being used.
Having reduced healing speeds for until first 2 healing skill checks is a downside to see any benefit from a perk is a downside.
Running a perk that has a chance of seeing absolutely no use (ie running Calm Spirit and getting a killer that doesn't have a power nor power that makes you scream) in a particular match is a downside.
I'm okay with this change because it's true that there is absolutely no reason not to run an Exhaustion perk at the moment outside of principle if you are trying to win and it's 4~ (BL isn't as universal) perks will always crowd out other choices and variances in builds as they are now (As seen here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/194632/the-latest-survivor-meta-snapshot-with-excel-data/p1?new=1)
One caveat being that Spirit + Stridor changes have to be made as it is and this would only increase that issue unless simultaneously addressed.
It also significantly lowers the potential of stealth builds considering how good tracking perks are at the moment - could see a significant outcry of tears from that portion of the community who doesn't enjoy looping/chases as much

so... wait a minute... after being completely impaled on a rusty meat hook a casual backrub from a friend or a quick self administered belly rub makes it all better but not having ASMR when exhausted is a bridge to far??
2 -
I dont hink it's a bug since when you are injured your breathing is replaced by sounds of pain.
0 -
It doesn't happen when injured, iron will literally stops your breathing period, even when healthy. This happens literally 100% of the time for me.
6 -
I think exhausted needs to do more than just prevent survivor from using some perks. Have them breath louder and do actions slower while exhausted.
3 -
lol how have I not though about that. This sounds great.
0 -
Oh seriously? Yeah that needs to be fixed. I've been using breathing to locate survivors recently.
0 -
Also, it sometimes even removes your footsteps as well, but this was a more recent thing, I think the no footsteps bug was introduced in silent hill.
0 -
I knew about that. Crazy how apparently the devs doubles their team but cant fix bugs consistently.

IMO exhaustion is balanced as it is.
1 -
I think it's kinda balanced as well, but it still doesn't make sense why survivors don't breathe louder or heavier when exhausted.
1 -
I’m not opposed to the idea in theory but 40+ seconds of even louder “HUHH, HOOGH, HAAH” every time you use a perk would be super annoying. It’s bad enough listening to certain survivors run around now.
1 -
Only if they make Spirit deaf.
1 -
This is a game. Most things in it don't "make sense".
1 -
Ah yes, a small change to one effect that isn't even active 30% of the time warrants the nerfing of an entire killer.
Also stridor is a hindrance.
0 -
Exhausted has no downside, it's just a cooldown.
1 -
Gotta say, i love the idea that if a spirit takes stridor and you breathe louder with exhaustion it could be like a perpetual airhorn in their ears, no matter where they go some sweaty person breathing heavily on their shoulders.
0 -
it is a downside and does affect your game if it actually didnt do anything survivors would dead hard or even worse sprint burst infinitely.
0 -
I mean, Meg already mouth breathes pretty loud.
0 -
Not everything has to make sense. Just as not being able to use weapons to defend themselves make sense for survivors. Because in reality survivors wouldn't be running all the time, some of them would also fight back.
1 -
Why does Iron Will turn survivors into undead monsters that don't even need to breathe? Why does a tree almost completely block out the sound of a generator? Why can I not hear someone sprinting across solid concrete?
Sounds in DbD are busted and probably always will be. Just look at the super hidden, passive-aggressive announcement they made that it was intentional for killers to literally be unable to hear anything while in a chase.
0 -
Great idea, but sounds are already seriously broken and basically have been since the game's release so i doubt they will ever add this haha.
0 -
Fix sounds- Cause they need to work
Then Stridor- IDK... Maybe make it work like M&A sounds are louder outside of chase but deafened when in chase (or the opposite)
Then Spirit- Maybe deafen sounds while phasing...
0 -
How often do you sprint for 3 seconds and have to rest for 45-60? Why do killers not have a stun after jumping off balconies like survivors? If we wanted to add a sense of realism, survivors should be sprinting for about 60 seconds, and then resting for 60, and Meg should be running miles. I might be fine with people breathing louder when they're exhausted, but they ain't doing it after 3 seconds.
1 -
Simply because someone is exhausted doesn’t necessarily mean they’re breathing heavy.
You’re using the expression of exhausted in a way that alters the meaning... almost as though describing someone who has been doing extended sprinting or a marathon run.
Some people get exhausted after a long day of walking in the heat, though it doesn’t lead them to breathing heavy when sitting and watching a movie later on while they’re feeling worn out.
Some people exhaust all their recourses and have to wait until they get more, like the energy to dead hard or head-on, but it doesn’t translate to them breathing heavy until they recoup from lunging forward a stride or jumping out of a locker.

I'd be fine with this. There are a number of add-ons and perks that can cause survivors to become exhausted. If they have no exhaustion perks, then these effects literally do nothing. While it's okay for that to be the case sometime, it's the only "debuff" I can think of where it might do absolutely nothing to a survivor. I think heavier/louder breathing is a good trade-off that's not really oppressive, but still gives a bit of value for the killer.
And we can't balance/not balance everything in the game around Spirit, there are so many other killers!
0 -
This would lead to either a stridor or even a Spirit nerf
0 -
For the same reason that we don't see killers jamming their knives when hitting wood, or breaking it when hitting rock.
