So I might have ADHD

I realize this is the most random place to say that but I can't tell my mom/my family doesn't believe in mental medication and I'm not sure what to do with this information or how to process it yet.

I'm going to be tested on Saturday and then get the results. If I do have ADHD it would explain so many things, so I guess being diagnosed is better than not? I don't know. It almost feels like having ADHD feels like you're labeling yourself in a bad way and I didn't want that for my life.

I'm on the spectrum, and have a group of various conditions including ADHD (I believe it should be ADD, but still). The main thing is, whatever happens, do not let it define you. ADHD is only a small part of who you are, and if you functioned well before then this diagnosis will not change you for the worse. Having a diagnosis may help in terms of what can be done to aid you in future.

It may be worth taking your parents to this and other potential appointments. My mother still doesn't understand mental illness, but that's due to a lack of understanding. Invite them to come with you for all meetings and help educate them. Their support will be useful, as well as your friends.

    I wish you well :)

Wait for the results and try not to get worked up about things that you are not in control of, you will see whether you have it or not. I am sure afterwards they are able to tell you how to proceed. Doesn't really matter whether your family believes in that stuff, diagnosis are not about believing or not. You should put yourself first.

@ringwinning I didn't get a diagnosis until I was in my 30's. By that time I already had a spouse, child, and graduated from business school. So please believe me when I tell you a diagnosis doesn't have to define your life. What it CAN do is help you through meds if you go that route, but more important, it can teach you skills and strategies to manage your day to day.

I've just accepted that I need to take a planner everywhere and cultivate habits to make my life less chaotic. You will be OK, but always here to listen if you need.
