DBD is Unreal. So i assume it is an engine thing for lightening. I dunno why but in some Unreal games you can find these objects of where the light is placed. Usually in the exact middle of a map. But normally you need a free control camera or something to get high enough so this will be rendered. I can be wrong though, they usually look more like UFO's as like boxes.

This is Trappers plan all along. Hes actually quite the bastard. He pretended to fight with the Entity so he'd get those nifty jagged spikes/shards coming out of him for just this plan.

In all seriousness, its probably a skybox for animations to take place.The map you play on is a projection of the sky box, and anything that happens there happens on the map. Even player models, so if you go on a skybox, a giant character will be projected on to the map.
