What would you guess the average age of DBD players are?

To start this off, I'm throwing it out there that I'm old. Like, REALLY old, lol. At least in the context of the general player base, and I'm probably not anywhere near the target age demographic of video game companies if I had to guess.

I've played rounds as killer where I've messaged players after the game (I'm on console, with messages off normally) to either say GG when someone played exceptionally well against me, to apolgize if the game was really rough or there was a DC, or as a survivor to thank a teammate who might have made a great save or play during the match to help with an escape (to the PC Jane I couldn't message that Head-On stunned the killer in a match last week to save my tail, if you're out there and see this -- thank you, lol!).

In talking with a few of these players, a couple asked to play with my friend and I, and when we got into voice chat, I was stunned by how young some of them were. I know video games are more a younger person's thing, but I've run into players who were in the 11-14 age range more often than I would have believed I would have for a game with this type of content.

With those experiences in mind, I'm curious what the average age of the player base actually is. Is DBD filled with college age players? Kids? Late 20's/early 30's adults? Grumpy old people like myself, lol? I've never seen any data, if it exists. I try to put the possibility I'm playing with kids into mind whenever I get angry or frustrated over something that happens to me that's "toxic", telling myself that the person doing it might actually not be old enough to know better (not that I still don't get salty at times, but convincing myself that the relentlessly teabagging Claudette at the exit might be a 13 year old who hasn't learned better yet makes that salt a little less common, lol).

As a disclaimer, I'm just curious who I'm actually playing with/against. There's certainly no "right" age to be playing this game, and there are plenty of people, I'm sure, that are really young who show better manners than people twice their age. If I had to guess, I'd probably be the oldest person in any random match I'm a part of, but I'm wondering by exactly how much that actually is.

You won't find any data or statistic's to this, nowhere. These informations are personal and not even steam is allowed to gather them. These age request pages you can find here and there are running memes from the times where dinosaurs walked the internet.

I'm younger than ages stated so far in this thread. 🌈

Personally I feel like younger people play this game more than older folks...but I don't know what I'm basing my opinion on...just a feeling...

Probably from 14 to 30 it's a pretty big age gap from what I've seen. But if the attitude on the forums is anything to say then they're more young players than old.

Probably idk I'm just making stuff up. :P

I’m 21 and most people I play SWFs with are in their 20s too. I play on Steam though and PC gamers tend to be a little bit older.

I’ve never run into anyone that seems super young. I highly doubt that most Steam players are 11-14 like you’re assuming. I’d say maybe 18-28 is more realistic

I'm 26 myself, and others who I know play DBD are roughly the same age. However if we were to go on the way some behave in this game I'd say 12....

Yep ... I think I'm the oldest person here, lol. And it might not be close. 😯

Young at heart counts, though ... right? 😊

I'm 30, two of my friends who I play with are 30 and my friends girlfriend is 27. I don't think it's all that old for a gamer nowadays since when we were young games were just starting to get big. I remember all the stories kids in school would talk about when a new N64 game came out and they would stay up all night playing it. I like to think all those people are still around playing games to this day and that I might even be playing with them and others like them.

Of course if we're going realistically then I definitely think it's teens or at least school kids of some kind. I tend to play more at night and there is a pretty big jump in activity around 5:30AM to 7:00AM which for me is when I'd be getting up for school and taking a little time for morning gaming. Though I suppose it could be people getting up for work as well.

Sick I think I'm the youngest on this thread.

Ngl out of everyone I know who plays this game, I think the average between us is like 17? Maybe 18? So if hazard a guess between 16 and 25 on average, obviously with older people in there too. In fact I think the average age has the least amount of people and it's only the average because of the large amounts of older and younger people which balance each other out.

The target audience was probably supposed to be around 20-30 since it’s M for one but also cause of the classic horror that’s in the game. Stranger Things I’m sure made a lot of 16-19 year olds come to the game. Kids will always be in any game so there’s that.

Then again I’m only 18 and I’ve been playing for 3 years so take what a said lightly lol

    But of course! ^_^

While not a DBD player I think the oldest person I've played with (assuming they weren't lying) was a guy I used to play ZMR with who said he was 56, which would have been 5 or 6 years ago. I don't recall when that game was released.

Anyway I was the leader of a clan, he was my number 2 and he always made it a point to give out life advice whenever he could. He was a really chill dude but was also kind of grumpy and had a really relaxing but kind of raspy voice if that makes sense. He said he's been gaming ever since he played pong when it came out in the arcades and never really stopped. He used to bring up his grandkids a lot as well and say how gaming brought them closer together. It was always really sweet.

Thinking on it I wonder what happened to that guy and it bugs me to no end I can't remember his name. Hell, I forgot he even existed until I was trying to recall the oldest person I've played with. It's funny how little things like this can bring back a bunch of forgotten memories.

I'm 30 although some of my comments might suggest otherwise. I also have a younger brother who's 11 and I'm pretty sure he plays it. I mean he's definitely aware of it.

Do you mean Dbd players on steam or steam players in general? Because I've met many steam players aged 14-17, not all of them in dbd though.

The youngest people I played dbd with were 13, but that was an experience I do not want to repeat.

I would say 16 is the average. I am 26 and i ran into players 15 years younger than me or 15 years older. But for the past 3-4 months i usually ran into people that are 13-16 (my theory is that since the schools are closed in a lot of countries, they tend to play more and that's why i am seeing more of them all of a sudden).

We should make a discord server with some of us, maybe everyone older than 20? I would like to talk with you guys, knowing you better since i rarely play with people older than 16 (in 3 years of playing this game, i think i ran into 200ish folks that were 23+, i am not saying i am old, but i'm a bit tired of the 16 y/o mentality from my games ^.^)

    I'm days away from 40.

Judging by the messages people send out when something doesn't go their way... the average age is 4.

I faced many 11-13 years old. Sadly i even played with few of them on comms. Disaster. They quite often play on accounts of their parents or older siblings. Then, account owner IS 18+ to play DbD (not like anybody care for age restrictions) and lil' bugs can play undisturbed.

It's been interesting seeing the variety of ages of the people who've posted so far. It's neat knowing that, despite the differences in said ages (and with it, differences in what our lives are like otherwise), this game (or having fun with a video game in general), is something we can share in common. 🙂

(BTW, it still looks like I'm the oldest in this group so far, lol 🧐).

I'm 36, and I enjoy the game a lot. I'd imagine it varies. I'm probably definitely on the upper end of the age spectrum. Though the person who got me into the game is older than me.

I'm still a teenager, but if I was to estimate, most of the playerbase is from the ages of 20-40, damn it seems like I'm the youngest :*(

My guess would also be 15-25, though I'm surprised to hear of so many people talking to 11-year-olds.

I'm in the 30+ crowd, and I've definitely had matches where I say to myself, "This person's behaving terribly if they're my age, but kind of average if they're 13, and since I don't know for sure..."

well, there is no frame of reference given, really. I for one wouldn´t say that i am old, despite the fact i played my first video game about 38 years ago. I would say that most players are over 20, because in my experience player numbers are way higher when work hours are over, and on weekends.

That a lot of them act like they are children does sadly not mean they are.
