Is Steam sniping a SWF using comms okay?

I saw a thread about swf and somehow my brain went in this direction. I'm curious what ppl think about Steam sniping a SWF with comms specifically. Not Steam sniping a solo queue survivor, a killer or even a SWF not using comms. It feels like a grey area to me.

Sorry do you mean streamsniping, as in you know a streamer that is in a swf and try and be in the queue when they play so you can be against them on stream?

If that’s the question then the answer is that streamsniping is explicitly listed as not being a bannable action. Whether it’s “sportsmanlike” is debatable.

I mean... If they are a full or near-full team deliberately and actively using comms to gain an unfair out-of-game advantage...

Two wrongs may not make a right, but that doesn't mean anyone can take the moral high ground and lord it over the other party, either. That's just one of those "I'm gonna leave y'all to it and hope I don't get shite all over my new shoes" situations.

Stream sniping if perfectly ok, people give away their stream willingly for everyone to see, is their own fault if they get sniped.

Is like playing cards and showing your hand to your rivals.

Stream sniping isn't bannable but purposefully targeting the same person MULTIPLE times (especially if its to grief them with either strong builds or directly countering them by looking at their stream) scoots really close to the edge of their ToS and they have given warnings and bans to people who were giving streamers a rough time back when it was easier to snipe someone.

And of course, if you use someone's stream to peak on their game for extra info, you're not playing DBD at that point. Even if they're asking for it. If you think comms are an issue but wonder if screen-peaking is ok, I can't argue with you.

Well I hope it is okay, last night I was threatened with a ban by someone who thought I was streamsniping them....I never even heard of this guy.

As if I´d streamsnipe as clown with meh addons. This guy didn´t realise how BBQ works or that you leave blood trails while injured....

It's not something I'd do, but yeah, no one's gonna shed any tears for a SWF Streamer if you snipe him.

The few times I go up against streamers (who advertise in their names), I'll actually join their stream after the game and chat with them. They usually only have a small number of viewers, so it's pretty cool.

If my interpretation of the game rules is correct then this is wrong.

    GRIEFING: INTENTIONAL GAMEPLAY ABUSE

    [...]

Targeting specific users repeatedly in order to ruin their game experience

I argue that stream sniping can be considered a form of targeting specific users and thus violates this rule.

The game rules list streamsniping as specifically not reportable but to me it seems that if you do it repeatedly to (a) specific player(s) it violates the negative targeting rule. It is not clear (to me at least) which rule takes precedence: targeting players being reportable, or streamsniping not being reportable even if done excessively.

Cheating like that isn't good, but don't feel guilty about since they are doing the same.

If you Streamsnipe to get into their games, sure, this can be considered as targeting a specific user. This happened already to a Streamer and if I remember correctly, the people who streamsniped said Streamer over and over again to ruin their games were banned.

But I understand OP in that way that he sees that someone is loading into their game and after finding out that they are an SWF that he streamsnipes them during that game only. Which would be a dickmove, but not bannable.

I mean, no one is making that person stream their games. It's kind of a draw back. If people complain about stream sniping I'm sure the devs response would be "Stop streaming"

Stream Sniping is not bannable and something we deal with. It is up to the respective platforms to deal with it. This kind of behavior can usually be reported on platforms, but as it states in the rules, anything happening outside of DBD is out of our jurisdiction.
