How's your experience with Matchmaking?

A friend of mine just got the game, started as a rank 20 killer obviously, EVERY match he went against purple and red ranks...

Now, about me, as red rank killer, almost EVERY match I go against 2 greens and 2 purple or red ranks

I don't feel any of both situations as fair...

It's been mostly fine, sometimes it goes a rank-color too high or low, but mostly fine.

it was fine a couple of weeks ago, but lately ive been getting ranks 10-20s in all of my matches, kinda annoying tbh

The last match I played my rank 14 killer went up against all red ranks. The downside here is that this game is set up to throw any killer regardless of rank into a match so that the survivor queue times are shorter.

It's bad enough this game doesn't teach you how to play, but it's even worse if you're new and have no one to play with.

As red rank survivor, I frequently get green rank teammates; as red rank killer, it's normally ok but since the day before reset, it's been...very off...like, green ranks, white ranks, etc. incredibly all over the place.

Matchmaking has never been good, though.

the match making hits me no matter what side I'm on. sometimes I'll get 3 purple or green ranks as a low level killer.

Last year at this time, it was fine. Went to hell in a handbasket around January, like playing people with 20 times my hours and 8 ranks above me. Still like that really, I've just gotten good enough to compete with them.

My MM for most part has been fine. I’m a red survivor and I mostly solo q as of lately. Teammates are usually 10 and below and so are the killers. I’m a purple killer and survivors I go against are usually pretty close to me with the occasional one survivor above 10. Last night had three purples and a rank 13 I believe

Not great, most of the time I get the less than average survivor team. I still have fun though.

Not well-- I have had matches where I'm on a team with all green/brown ranks who aren't willing to risk enough in the games. My worst match to date was when I was rank 7 a few months ago and died on my first hook by a proxy camping legion and my teammates were all crouching by the hook trying to figure out what to do. They were all brown ranks, and I was so annoyed. They didn't do anything wrong, I'm not mad at them, I just wish the game could put me with fellow purple/red ranks in matches. It's not happening as often, but since the reset on the 13th I've been matched with pretty low ranks.

Mine has been awful as always, though it does seem worse the last day or 2.

Since rank 10 as killer I was put up against full meta loadout rank 4+ survivors; and as survivor it used to be the opposite where I was red rank playing against rank 8-10 killers and it was no fun as it felt like cheating.

Last night though there was a rank 4, 9, and 2x 8s against a rank 1 killer Dowsey who is a streamer who makes DbD guides; needless to say these sort of matches were over in minutes and survivors get steamrolled due to poor play on our part.

I play solo so it’s not due to partying etc.

I saw a similar match play out with the streamer Jaee, and he was doing a SWF who like him, were all red ranks (mostly rank 1). The Killer however was only rank nine. Needless to say it didn't work out so well for the Killer.

I honestly don't even know what to expect anymore. They need a matchmaking system that is killer focused and not survivor focused.

It actually does the same to newer survivors that it does to newer killers; if it doesn't find higher rank killers games for a while, it will give newer survivors that queue up instant queues into that killer.

I'm a purple rank killer, almost red rank, and last night I was getting brown rank survivors. Games were funny because of course they were baby survivors, but I felt bad because I wouldn't want them to get a bad impression of the game or feel like they're bad.

Occasionally a high tank with low rank and vice versa but overall nothing outrageous it's good for me.

    Horrid.

Consistently red rank being put with gold and silver ranks as teammates.

But who doesn't love being left to die on first hook most of their matches.

You're not wrong, but just speaking from my own experience, I tend to see more mismatched killers than I do survivors.

It's a definite improvement from my experience. There are some trials that don't always match well, but honestly the majority feel balanced. Whatever has happened recently has been well. May not be the same for everyone though.

  • SunderMun
    SunderMun Member Posts: 2,789

I think that has to do with there being more red rank survivors, tbh. But even so, it MM does some wild stuff.

Last week I was watching Otz, I'm same region as him, both rank 1. He kept instaqueuing, and getting rank 1 survivors. At the same time, I was queueing, and getting green rank survivors. There were clearly enough red rank survivors playing at the time, so why did it decide to give me such a mismatch? It's not fun when I get pitted against survivors who hug the edge of the map; it just makes me feel bad, because they never should have gotten me. I see the opposite happen aplenty too when I play survivor; it's so bad.

Let me guess, they were hiding in the corner of the map nowhere near the killer, acting as if they were right next to them?

Yeah, this is my experience. I'll be found first, run the killer for 5-6 minutes, maybe 1 gen will have been done, and once downed, everyone is just immersing around, often in the edge of the map. And I very often die first hook these days, thanks to getting teammates that shouldn't be in the same games as me without queuing up with them myself, and with a killer who also shouldn't have gotten me.

I can normally tell if the killer is mismatched very quickly, but teammates...you don't know until it's too late. Unless you're on a gen with them and they repeatedly miss skillchecks. Which, again, I've gotten a ton since reset. xD

It's a mixed bag for me regardless of which side I'm playing. Sometimes I get the usual rainbow team while I'm a red rank solo survivor, other times I get grey ranks while I play killer. MM seems to have a mind of its own.

Yesterday i had only sweaty squads (rank 1-4) for the 5 killer games i did. But today i got even one game with 3 greens and 1 yellow (i'm rank 3 currently) and the rest was chill purple ranks, maybe 2 red ranks in all games. Kinda feels like the MMR is tested again?

I think DBD could really benefit from a single player/practice mode. I know it will never compare to playing against actual live players, but DBD doesn't teach you anything, and DBD desperately needs something that allows newer players (and even experienced players) to test out the mechanics. It's one of the reasons why I don't play with killers that I've never played with before. I don't need to sweat when I'm learning.😕

Killer matches I get Green/Yellow/Purple ranks (I’m not a Red rank killer rn)

Survivor matches are excruciatingly worse with a Red rank (often 1-2) killer against my Red rank survivor and a combination of Purple/Green/Yellow ranks with noticeably lesser hours and possibly some inexperience.

Probably in 90% of these survivor matches it’s tough to gain any ground for a pip or escape, or even have a enjoyably fun match under these circumstances.

  • SunderMun
    SunderMun Member Posts: 2,789

That's my point, if you read through properly. I'm saying I shouldn't be getting killers I can run that long, and also shouldn't be getting survivors that only do 1-2 gens in that amount of time.

It’s been the same again tonight for me in EU - rank 1 killers every game except 2 which were rank 3, vs rank 7/8 and below survivors.

I had a Haddonfield match where the team only got 1 gen done at the very end of the match; Haddonfield!

When I played killer at rank 5/6 atm; I get higher red rank survivors than the rank 1 killers I faced as survivor all night.

Seems like something is going on that’s making this problem worse than normal; I wonder if the devs are fiddling with MMR in the background the last 2 or 3 days?

I enjoy the game honestly as a casual lol and watch the red ranks on youtube, but lately as a rank 14-16 killer I get maybe one or two survivors my rank but then the others are always WAY off about 8 - 4 rank. I get it, get gud, but guess what? I got only a select time to play so I'm not about to put in hours or train on a game lol sorry not sorry. A few weeks ago things were fine but now it is long que times and VERY off balanced lobbies.

As a survivor I’m currently in green ranks since I took a break. I play with my friend who is a red rank. We duo queue, killers are usually red rank, survivors are usually red-purple rank.

As Killer, i’m purple rank, survivors range from red-green rank but I mostly get green ranks.

For some reason, when I was a yellow rank killer, the matchmaking kept feeding me to red/purple teams. From reading the forums that seems like a common experience for some reason. I don't know why.

Currently, I hover around green/purple and the matchmaking is hit or miss. Mostly I seem to get groups that are two reds, a green, and a yellow.

From the survivor side, I think it's hard to judge how good the matchmaking is, because you can go through the entire match without really being in chase. The ranks match up -- I'm purple/red and the other people I match with are purple/red, but there's such a huge range of skill at that level that it's hard to tell. From my POV, most of my matches seem okay, but, from the killer POV, the matchmaking might seem off.
