Dark Deception: The Murder Monkeys Killer Concept

For anyone who doesn't know, Dark Deception is a first person horror maze game similar to Pac-man developed by Glowstick Entertainment. Ever since I've seen the game getting updated more and more, I've started wondering if this game could perhaps make its way into the DbD universe.

After some thought, I came up with an interesting concept using the game's trademark monster, the Murder Monkeys! These guys are like the ghosts from Pac-man, which means there will be multiple of them in the trial at the same time! Allow me to get into detail.

TL;DR AT THE BOTTOM!

Killer: The Murder Monkeys

A trio of mischievous Killers, able to patrol multiple areas of the trial at once using their power, Acolytes of Evil.

[No perks yet.]

Terror Radius: 32 meters

Movement Speed: 4.6 m/s

Height: Tall

Music Material: Terror Radius & Chase Theme (0:45 is the best part)

Power Explanation: Acolyte of Evil

"Bound as one and fueled by their relentless desire to kill, the Murder Monkeys pursue their prey in overwhelming numbers."

When the trial begins, you start just like any other Killer would. However, two additional Murder Monkeys will spawn near your location, only inactive and unmoving.

Inactive Murder Monkeys

Inactive Murder Monkeys are, well, inactive. They're completely still, head's tilted downward as if unwound, and Undetectable. However, inactive Murder Monkeys still have collision, so you can position them strategically to block certain paths or resources from the Survivors. You see their white auras at all times.

Inactive Murder Monkeys have the additional ability to track Survivors passively. When you (the Killer) look in the direction of an inactive Murder Monkey, their aura will turn yellow and any Survivors close enough within its field of view are revealed via Killer Instinct. You can use moments like these to pounce, similar to Demogorgon's portals. Speaking of...

Changing Monkeys

The most important part of the Murder Monkeys' power is their ability to switch to different Monkeys at the player's leisure with a short cooldown. As the active Murder Monkey, you can highlight an inactive Murder Monkey by looking in their direction and pressing the Active Ability button (which turns their auras yellow; from the Survivor's perspective, they can see the key on their back being wound). From here, hold down the button to transfer to the highlighted Murder Monkey after a short warning delay (which, from the Survivor's perspective, looks like them waking up from a brief daze).

After transferring, the previous Murder Monkey becomes inactive and will remain that way until switched back.

Special Ability: Slicer Dicer

An ability based on the Murder Monkeys' ultimate from Monsters & Mortals.

Each time a generator is completed (or while the exit gates are powered), for the next 60 seconds, the Murder Monkeys become enraged!

When the Murder Monkeys are enraged, Slicer Dicer becomes available. By pressing and holding the Power Button, the Murder Monkey will move faster and start swinging their blades wildly in front of them in a sweeping attack that can hit multiple Survivors without cooldown. Similar to Cannibal, colliding with a wall will ensue a brief slowdown, but will not cancel the attack unless the Power Button is released or the rage timer depletes.

And no, you can't break pallets with this move. Maybe with an add-on, but not at base.

Acolytes of Evil: Add-ons

Aside from perhaps Slicer Dicer, the Murder Monkeys lack a chasing ability. However, the true potential of their power is mostly demonstrated in the form of add-ons, which create additional abilities for the Murder Monkeys to maim the Survivors with. The powers are the same you'd get in original game as the protagonist (or as item boxes in Monsters & Mortals), but now they're in the hands of the Murder Monkeys. None of the numbers are official and subject to change based on balancing needs. For now, it's just for proof of concept.

Controls are mapped based on the add-ons selected. For now, I'm just using "Active Ability button" as an place-holder.

Speed Boost

Unlocks the Speed Boost ability. Press the Active Ability button to unleash a lengthy burst of speed.

  • Tremendously increases movement speed.
  • Reduces movement handling. (Meaning movement will be really slippery and delicate.)
  • Duration of approximately 10 seconds based on add-ons used. Duration add-ons stack.
  • Cooldown of approximately 30 seconds.
  • Performing a basic attack, vaulting, or breaking a pallet or generator cancels Speed Boost.

Teleportation

Unlocks the Teleportation ability. Press and hold the Active Ability button to select a teleport location a short distance in front of you.

  • Maximum range of approximately 10 meters. You cannot teleport through walls. However, you can teleport through windows or dropped pallets. There's a short cooldown before you can attack after teleporting.
  • Teleport has a 20 second cooldown.

Telepathy

Unlocks the Telepathy ability. Press the Active Ability button to reveal the locations of all Survivors.

  • Reveals the auras of all Survivors for a short time.
  • Cooldown of 60 seconds.

Primal Fear

Unlocks the Primal Fear ability. Press the Active Ability button to emit a powerful shockwave in all directions.

  • All Survivors within 16 meters scream and reveal their location.
  • Survivors hit are Hindered for 5 seconds.
  • Cooldown of 45 seconds.

Vanish

Unlocks the Vanish ability. Press the Active Ability button to suppress your terror radius and become partially invisible.

  • You become Undetectable for 16 seconds and partially invisible, sort of like Wraith.
  • Basic attacks cancel Vanish.
  • Cooldown of 60 seconds.

Common Add-ons:

  1. Inactive Murder Monkeys are no longer Undetectable and emit a reduced terror radius. All Murder Monkeys (including yourself) are Undetectable for 6 seconds after changing monkeys.
  2. Slightly increases the field of view and detection range of inactive Murder Monkey Killer Instinct highlight.
  3. Slightly increases the duration of Slicer Dicer when a generator is completed.
  4. Slightly increases transition speed when switching Murder Monkeys.

So yeah, there's my idea. Since the protagonist is mute, I'd imagine that this Killer would be the product of a paragraph instead of a chapter. Maybe a map could be included as well, but the hotel map from which the monkeys originate is a little cramped for the likes of DbD.

All-in-all, I really think Dark Deception could make its way into DbD at some point and we'll start seeing oversized toy monkeys with knives for hands chasing people around. I relish the day it happens.

tl;DR

Power
  • Map Maneuverability: You're an M1 Killer with the ability to change places with copies of yourself around the map.
  • Inactive Monkeys: Copies don't move or have a terror radius, but still have collision. Additionally, any Survivors within its line of sight and in close proximity are revealed via Killer Instinct.
  • Slicer Dicer: A sweeping attack that works similar to Leatherface's Chainsaw Sweep that has an infinite duration, more lenient punishment for bumping into walls, and only damages Survivors for one health state per hit. It lasts for 60 seconds only when a generator is completed, and lasts FOREVER if the exit gates are powered.
Add-ons
  • Speed Boost: Lets you run super fast! However, it's harder to control and will punish you for missing an attack.
  • Teleport: Short-distance instantaneous warp that ignores windows and pallets, but not solid walls. There's a short reprieve before you can attack after using this ability, but you keep your speed and momentum.
  • Telepathy: Reveals the auras of all Survivors. It's as simple as that. However, it has a hefty cooldown.
  • Primal Fear: Short-distance Static Blast that causes Survivors close to you to scream and be slowed for a brief moment. Activates instantly without charge.
  • Vanish: Turns you invisible for a short duration, just like the Wraith.
