People who ask for serial killers in the game
I'm currently writing a script for my next dbd video on my channel, I've seen some people mention the likes of Ted Bundy, Charles Manson etc. I'm doing different sections for this video on things people want in the game, but I can't find the reasons that people want serial killers in this game, what powers would they have? What's the reason you want these guys in the game? Is it just out of being interested in true crime or is it something else? I'm not here to judge and I will be respectful of people's opinions in said video, I would just like to have some information on this before speaking about it.

It would be rather interesting to see serial killers in dbd, but I don't like the idea
I am cool with killers being influenced from real life serial killers, but seeing Ted Bundy or Charles Manson as a killer would be a bad idea imo

I'd say recent ones are off limits, their actions are too fresh in the minds of people. As well as the fact some people still mourn those lost to those individuals.
Historical killers could be neat though, not sure how they'd pull them off.

See, this is where I stand with it. I'm a true crime fanatic I suppose, but I'd rather they stay off the games which is what my video is about. Leather face was inspired by Ed Gene who only killed 2 people, but he turned the people he grave robbed into things like masks and suits etc.

I thinks its the fact that these killers do things so gruesome they cant even comprehend. Iirc, Clown is based on John Wayne Gary and Hillbilly is based on Bubba, who is in fact based off of Ed Gein. I’ve always wanted a Jack the Ripper-esque killer, and Blight is the closest we have. But having real people in the game would be pretty...complicated

I would like a Jack the Ripper varient but i could see a recentish serial killer to be more trouble then it's worth.
It would be a bit in bad taste and just attract people that would be offendes by it and tbh i wouldn't really blame them

Were serial killers ever really wanted?
In all the years I watching those forums by now, I can't remember seeing much threads about them. Not even a handful in this time...
I personally would not like to see them. I sometimes like watching documentaries about them, but thats it. Wouldn't like to be one. Also I think that would give those more attention as they already have and that is imo not a good thing.

Serial killers shouldn't be glorified in any games. Wasn't there a game based off the Columbine shootings? It's just rather distasteful.
I can understand some killers may be (in part) influenced slightly by real life, but to run around as someone like Harold Shipman, Ted Bundy or Myra Hindley would have no appeal, and will stop me playing.

It's fairly distasteful. It's like wanting a recount of the toolbox murders.
Jack the Ripper sounds cartooney but it was a real life case of horrific mutilations.
I feel it's an attempt to defang the severity of psychopaths actually existing by trying to normalize it. Like werewolves and vampires turning into glitter queens. But what it's actually doing is glorifying it.

I've seen it mentioned before, it might have been on Reddit more than on the forums, although I've seen a few people on here mention the names of some serial killers. I stand with everyone who doesn't want them, but I also don't want to come across as that person that offends people.

I agree completely, the video I'm making is about characters I don't want to see in the game, but I try to be respectful of opinions when I make these videos although with this it's very difficult not to tell those that have asked for them that they probably need help; I mean I did that in my Tumblr days with the true crime community.

I think its pretty tasteless to have real killers ingame, as it gives those killers more attention and (even though its a game about killing and torture) it lessens the severity of the real killers' actions. At best we should have killers who were influenced or based on IRL killers (EX: The Clown being based on John Wayne Gacy). At least that way, the IRL killer does not gain as much infamy/knowledge. The memory of IRL tragedies should be kept tragic, but by making them into entertainment we lessen the importance/horror of what they really did.

There have been posts here. They are pretty spaced out as majority opinion tends to be 'no thanks' but they do appear from time to time.
Personally it would be a final straw for me and i'd simply quietly uninstall. I get the appeal, i really do. I love true crime stories because the psychology always fascinated me, but i don't really have any desire to see them in the game. I wouldn't shout about it though, everyone has differing opinions and occasionally those who are for it, do come up with interesting and sometimes compelling points, it's just not for me and i'd be somewhat disappointed if the company stooped to this.

Totally agree, I in no way want this in the game, this video is about characters I don't want to see in game this time round anyway. I'll be doing another on characters I'd like to see eventually.

We are definitely on the same boat there, it would be my last straw if they decided to do that. I'm glad the people coming to this post don't want them in game so I can kind of put my point across better knowing people are agreeing that it's wrong.
I have seen it here a small handful of times, but they usually don't reply when someone asks why.

I always thought that a American horror story chapter would be cool

That would be cool, and I'd love it because some of the seasons are a homage to the classics.

Season 2 asylum was the best season, hands down

That's a thing people have been asking for? So people really get so removed from reality that they cannot tell why what would be horrible? People can cite that it's a game about serial killers all they want, there's a difference between a fictional character that never harmed anyone and a ######### sick piece of ######### that cause so much hate and pain for the dual purpose of pleasure and fame.

This is the point I want to make in the video, as someone who's always had an interest in true crime I have seen many people turn it into a fetish, romanticise these people, it's the saviour complex. It's only a small amount of people that I've seen ask on this forum or mention it, but I've seen it a few times on Reddit and Tumblr. I don't want anything like this in the game, I'm just gathering information so I don't come across as someone who's assuming.

At the end of the day all you can do is try and be respectful of someones opinion, which is possible to do without compromising your own stance on things. For me, like i said, I do a lot of true crime research, and the mindest of these people are alien to me, hence the fascination, because deep down we all hope to find reason in what we consider complete madness. So i have a full scope of what these people have done and eventually came to the conclusion that time does not really change the horror of what was done, therefore I wouldn't enjoy seeing them marketed in a video game, because it stops being fun when you know how people suffered irl.
Now I highly doubt BHVR will ever cross this line, it has too many potential pitfalls. But if they ever did I would just walk away with no fanfare or rage. I can't change peoples minds on such a subject, but I wouldn't compromise my own stance for something as frivolous as a video game.

I wasn't trying to blame you or anything like that, so I'm sorry if it came off that way. I just cannot... I don't know, accept that there are people that have such an extreme disconnect from reality.
1 -
Oh no, I got where you're coming from don't worry! I just wanna make it clear to anyone scrolling that I am not for it. It's just...weird, gaming for me is an escape from reality and crime is a major part of that reality.

I would leave the game too. I also have an interest in true crime, in fact I do crime videos on my channel along with gaming and other things, but I seperate that, filming dbd videos is a chill thing that I can laugh at. When I sit down and research for crime videos I am mentally drained afterwards because my mind just can't comprehend that people do these things. The psychology draws me in but, when you really research and look into it, it's so... horrible?

Probably the ONLY one they could probably get away with including is Jack The Ripper, only because of how long ago that was, and all the myth and conjecture surrounding who that killer may have actually been.
But even then, it’s in poor taste. This game needs to keep clear of stepping over the line from fiction into fact.

They said it themselves that they don't want to put the spotlight on REAL killers. I would imagine that it would be bad for their rep to be seen as putting real killers into their game

You honestly don't know how happy I am that this thread is full of people who agree and are giving me amazing points that I have missed to mention while writing. I understand the Jack the ripper thing, maybe something inspired by that (I think there's a lot of characters inspired by all the myth about jack the ripper so that could be interesting) like I said to another person here, my channel is a mix of things including true crime videos and putting in the research is draining enough, I use gaming as my escape and I want real people left out.

If I can remember right, there's been a few internet flash games with serial killers in them and they were not taken well. I think this is one thing in the video that people will agree with more than the other characters I'll be mentioning.

I personally don't think there should be any real life serial killers in Dbd because that would just make the Murderer more popular and thus giving what them what they wanted in the first place. To be remembered (ironically Freddy's perk could be a great pun here) I don't think they want these said killers any more fame and think about the families who were victim of those murderers come across this game and be absolutely disgusted that the Devs would bring their nightmare back

I won't even lie here, it's the same with the movies they've made about Dahmer and Bundy with famous people that are considered good looking, docudramas are great when done right.
0 -
That's what their supposed to be documentaries about bad people who did bad stuff and I would rather it stay that way
1 -
Exactly! When the Bundy movie with Zac Efron came out, everyone swooned because hey it's Zac Efron and it lost focus on what he actually did. I've watched things like the diary of Jeffrey Dahmer and they interviewed people in his life, that was done right. Doing things like casting good looking actors as people that killed real people who have grieving families feels like a money grab. I'm glad BHVR are against this too.
