Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Truthully, how good/bad is Clown's performance?

I'm expecting @TheClownIsKing to know this, but I wanted to hear people's opinions on him.

We know Clown is getting a rework next (or at least some changes, something along those lines).

What's good or bad about the Clown and what changes do you think need to be made?

He’s doing worse than all other killers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bad. He’s got like a 55% WR from what i remember.

He could use a few small buffs and an addon update, but a major is needed imo.

What is good about him is that he is a 115 killer and has a big jiggly belly coupled with a hearty laugh that is satisfying to hear. HIs bottles can be used to slow survivors forcing them to drop down pallets early.

    What is bad about him...

He has little to no lethality, he has to reload his only four bottles which slows him down immensely, he is easy to counter by dropping pallets early (which is good, but he has no lethality at base to follow up on this), his bottles don't work sometimes, and his bottles at base are a bit too weak.

Not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. It's just that he has literally nothing else to offer except good 1v1, and his 1v1 isn't as good or that much better than killers who offer other things as well. He lacks a real identity from a power perspective and his power isn't fun to face due to the screen blur.

Kind of dependant on add-ons, I like playing him from time to time but his mobility feels pretty underwhelming at times.

His kit is just... really basic and underwhelming. It can be fun at times using his slowdown to force down early pallets and make 1v1's easier. At the end of the day however he simply does not have a widespread power that enables him to pressure all four survivors and slow down gens.

I like where he is at right now. Now that he doesn't slow down when throwing bottles makes for good chases, and how survivors always interacted with his power made for some great mind games, and gameplay.

He's got a decent chase ability, but he lacks mobility like most killers do and that hurts him pretty hard.

It's kinda hard to imagine what they could do to help him without making him too oppresive

I can’t speak on his performance because I don’t bother with keeping track of the released stats on this topic.

But I do periodically watch streams and pretty much see the same mistakes made with Clown over and over again, which would explain why many don’t do well with him, or form the opinion that he’s bad.

Truth be told, once it’s understood how to use the gas to either herd survivors where you want them, or place it in FRONT of their path, Clown becomes incredibly oppressive during a chase, and survivors go down very quickly, even at full health.

This is why Clown lacks other types of pressure. Getting more than one survivor downed in a brief period of time creates all the pressure Clown needs.

Throwing bottles DIRECTLY at survivors has a place in the game, but far too many players do this over and over, usually either missing entirely or it lands behind the survivor, having the survivor afflicted with the briefest amount of gas.

It’ll be interesting to see what’s planned for Clown, because I think he only needs to most minor of tweaks to his existing kit. With how experienced I am with Clown I really can see Clown accidentally becoming overpowered if they’re not careful with what changes they implement. I have suspicions the devs already know this too: that Clown could accidentally become overpowered, and it’s why they’ve taken so long to implement any changes, other than that one change to his brief slowdown he used to have when he threw a bottle.

At least I feel assured they are thinking about it beforehand

I do very well with Clown and I think he's underrated. While he does have some issues, his biggest problem is the loud grunt he makes when vaulting windows. If they fix that and don't ruin him with his rework he will be golden.

    Kill red rank 2020.jpg

That's the stats they put out for him in the red ranks. Kill rates are at the top, pick rates are on the bottom.

He is good, but pretty add-on hungry.

Playing bleach+ether clown is amazing though, he drops people quick with save the best for last. With those add-ons he feels similar to many other strong killers in that survivors basically have to feed you pallets because there is little to no looping him.

I’m gonna flex here and say I regularly play him without add ons. Especially if I’m grinding for BP and don’t want to burn through inventory.

The stats are pretty useless. We can't really use them because there are so many important factors that are missing (Moris, hook suicides,DCs etc.)

As a survivor main, I think he's a decent killer to go against. People almost always seem to use exhaustion add ons which cancels Dead Hard, and I can't see anything in his cloud anyway. Not to mention most survivors don't seem to understand what Pop is. It seems to be very common for Clowns to camp hooks too because they just spam bottles so it's very difficult to make a safe save unless you run Borrowed. That's not a lot of fun as a solo survivor.

I'm reaaaally interested how your clown gameplay looks like.

Would it be possible to show some videos of you playing him? There isn't really much high tier clown content out there as far as i know.
