Tryhard Killers
I really don't understand why so many people tryhard against survivors who literally don't try at all. I just played against a hag that tunneled and mori'd everyone in a three-man at five gens, after someone dc'd. Literally everyone else in the game was chilling and that hag just wanted to ruin that like bruh
Edit: This is kinda making me look like an entitled survivor main so to clarify I mean those situations where the survivors are just messing around, not even doing anything productive, and the killer is acting like they just got hit by four ds's
Edit 2: Okay a lot of people are seriously misinterpreting what I'm saying. I didn't post this to make this all "killers vs. survivors." I just wanted to see why some people are just merciless in this kinda situation.
Let me explain what actually went down that match: I load into the match and literally just instantly befriend two other people, then we walk in a conga-line past the hag after she hooks the 4th survivor. The dude instantly DC's on hook and the hag just downs two of us teabagging that guy's corpse. She proceeds to hook both of us and trap the hell out of us both. The 3rd survivor saved us both and we made several attempts to just slow her down, but she was relentless anyway.
I just wanted to know the thought process behind killers who are relentless towards people who so obviously don't mean any harm

I don't understand survivors who tryhard against killers who aren't tryharding, but hey, that just seems to be the game we're in these days.

Can’t remember last time a killer let me escape. It was so usual time ago
5 -
You think that's bad, I switched to the PS5 version of DBD and have to get almost all my trophies again, I got Adept Shape the other day and that was hard to do. now I have to do it again. not to mention the adept survivors I had. that's a bit easier but still.
Yeah you get try hard games on both sides and it can really sap the fun out of it.
I just try the best I can to let those games go, If I know I'm going to loose it doesn't matter.
1 -
Just because someone DC's doesn't mean the killer needs to let you live. Should've just killed yourself on hook.
Allow I will say I hate Hag so I'm a little conflicted right now.
10 -
Wow great response, perfectly executed, brilliantly worded. Hit em with the old "No you," counter. Brava, brava

Ego, and buying into the pretentious nonsense big name streamers tell people about 'how to play the game correctly'.
seriously, look at the big names in the community and their incapability/unwillingness to play in a way that won't guarantee a 4k in less than 5 min. I'm not kidding, unless they in a very condescending tone showcase meme-builds etc, they are all sweaty tryhards with one single MO, whether as killer or survivor, and they act as if that's the sole true way to play the game.
Incidentally, who was it who lately convinced people that you 'must' start slugging if there's 2 gens left? because, good heavens, have I seen that a lot lately with some killers who then threw a tantrum when people got out.
3 -
Is this thread bait? Fact is; You don't even have to try with Survivor. With Killer if you are not sweating, than you're not going to have a good time at all - or just playing basement bubba.
12 -
Because if you want to prevent 5 gens popping in under 4 minutes any action that killer takes will seem like tryhard in this game
4 -
'No u' isn't exactly helpful lmao
2 -
Because Killers have Emblems and BP to earn too? I'm sure that Killer was no happier about the DC than you were, but that doesn't mean the Killer should have to take it on the chin, anymore than you should. Don't blame the Killer. Report the DC twerp who put you in that position. Then do your best and earn what you can. That is all the Killer was doing.
3 -
Stopping gens in the first however many minutes is important for killers to pip.
2 -
Maybe ending the 1v3 as quickly as possible to get into a real match? That's one reason why i might not show any mercy after a DC.
other then that i do find it strange, you can get so much more points against a 3v1 with just slowing down a bit even without farming, perfect time for the mori after 2 hooks to get the most bp you can
3 -
It happens on both sides, man.
I never play as Hag, but I had to for one of the Tome challenges. All I did was put hex traps around one generator on Dead Dawg Saloon. Obviously I'm not trying to kill anyone, right? I'm just screwing around and maybe if I get lucky I'll complete the stupid challenge. Instead, at the end of the match, they key out, and each one makes a crapton of noise notifications at the locker and teabags before jumping in. Why?? What the hell did I do to them? I ignored them as they did that and went around breaking the breakable walls to get some points while they wasted time trying to BM me, so it worked out in my favor in a way, but it felt unnecessarily mean-spirited and douchey. All they had to do was leave, it would've been a 4e whether they hatched out or went for the exit gates, and I obviously wasn't trying to stop them, so what was the reasoning?
When I play nice as killer, I'm not asking survivors to farm or thank me (hell, I have messages turned off) or even be nice in return, but when they punish killers for playing nice... I don't understand the mentality there.
I will say that I do think it's easier for survivors to tell when a killer is playing nice/screwing around than it is for killers to tell when survivors are screwing around. It can be difficult to interpret survivors' actions, like whether they're BMing or saying hello, whether they're having fun with a friend or maliciously sandbagging, and whether they're not doing gens because they want to torment the killer or because they want to have mutual fun with the killer. So, a killer who goes all-out could be a dick, or maybe they just want to get it over with and move on to the next match, or maybe they're misinterpreting the survivors' actions.

You get garbage bloodpoints and emblems if you mori people early, so that obviously wasn’t their mindset.
1 -
You are making assumptions, which is always dangerous. You don't know what Rifts or Daily Rituals the Killer was working. Why are you blaming the Killer for the actions of the LOSER who disconnected and left the OP in a lurch? Get your priorities straight. There was only one villain in that scenario, and the blame BELONGS there.
1 -
It's less of a "No U" it's more "And U"
6 -
Talk about making assumptions. I didn’t say anything about the killer except that if they wanted bp and/or emblems, they wouldn’t tunnel mori everyone. There are no challenges or dailies that require 3 tunnel mori kills either. Calm down.
3 -
On a serious note: if I find myself in a trial where I am massively outclassing the group I happened upon, it's not very fun. I do not want to babysit to help them learn or farm throughout the match either. I am a red rank player. So I prefer to just win as fast as possible so I can get to the next trial where maybe it will be competitive and fun.
Hope this helps you understand the "tryhards."
4 -
Rank. If you want to rank up or maintain a high rank you need kills. I don't even give hatch anymore because it can make the difference between my pipping or my safety pipping. I can't afford to be nice, fool around or have mercy. I am punished too much.
4 -
It's probably been more than a year for me, but I have had a two killers lately work with other another survivor to sandbag me and then they let them go.
0 -
yes, because the killer is supposed to LET you do gens.
Bro shut yo entitled mouth

My point is that this issue isn't the Killer's fault. This entire thread is annoying because it places the blame on a Player that did NOT create the problem. The problem is an idiotic, self-centered Player disconnected and left the match in a 3v1 state. That is where the blame, angst, and shame should lie. Instead, we are getting the normal "us versus them" garbage.
2 -
Maybe the OP just wants to understand the mindset of someone who views the game competitively, when they play in a more casual manner? People are allowed to ask questions, and others have given good reasons (wanting to get the match over with, for example).
Things don’t always have to be so confrontational. I’ve had survivors get mad at me before for “tryharding” when someone rage quit and when I explain that I just wanted a boring match over with, they were usually more reasonable. It doesn’t have to be “us vs them”.
1 -
Killers don't care about anything other than their pips. Don't expect much more out of them and appreciate the rare few gems who actually want a fun game for everyone.

Someone who wants to "understand" doesn't start by using a nickname which is intended in a negative way. The term "Tryhard" tells you that the OP already had an opinion and is simply passing a judgement. Neither Killers nor Survivors have to explain how or why they play the game. The default is expected that you are going to attempt to achieve your objectives. Going back to your original comments:
- There are Rifts where you have to kill everyone by your own hand. If the Killer was going for that Rift they have already wasted the Mori, putting it in for that purpose and the disconnect has screwed things up. They might as well use it.
- If they want to get to another match fast, the best way is to eliminate the Survivors. I can tell you from first hand experience if you sit back and let them do Generators they take their damn time and assume you want to farm. They don't just get their butts in gear and out. The Killer ends up sitting there longer than if it had been a normal match.
- It is dubious to assume someone is actually tunneling. I know Survivors always assume they are being tunneled and camped. I've been called a tunneling Camper when I went (12) Hooks in a match and never hooked the same person twice in a row, and never stayed near the hook. All we have is the OP's PERCEPTION of events and his use of the word "Tryhard" has already shown his perception and bias is skewed. Do you see my point?
I am a bit confrontational in threads like these. They make me angry. I don't like seeing the blame and angst directed at a Player who stayed to play the game, when the problem was created by someone who couldn't be bothered.
3 -
^ This. And I think one thing people may forget is that this game only has one mode; it's not split up between "casual mode" and "ranked mode," everyone is just thrown together and the two mindsets don't mesh. While some people can sort of switch between mindsets, a lot of people can't or don't want to, and that's not the fault of the players, that's a shortcoming of the game.
This isn't an "us vs them" thing. I pointed out earlier in this thread that killers face this same problem against survivors; this issue applies to both sides. Most people play both sides rather than maining one or the other (who pays for a game only to play 50% of it?), so any behavior seen on one side is going to be seen on the other.
3 -
You’re incorrect on point 1, I believe. The only rift challenge that requires moris is the recent Devour Hope one where the perk will do it, every other challenge that says “kill all survivors” includes killing them via hook, no mori needed. I may be forgetting one, but I don’t think I am.
I don’t see the point in getting angry and confrontational about someone you don’t know being called a tryhard (really not an offensive thing to be called in my opinion), but fair enough.
0 -
I get angry about it because its is garbage that builds up on the Forum, is bad for the community, and creates and "us versus them" illusion. I'm angry because the VERY first post sets out a scenario where a person DCs in the game and ruins the match. That person isn't given any condemnation or barely a second thought. Somehow, the thread isn't about people who rudely disconnect; it is about "Tryhard Killers," just another attack on Killers who are just doing their JOB.
And you (who seem to think I'm being confrontational) seem to be bending over backwards trying to find a way to justify this thread without ever addressing the point I keep bringing up. Who is the villain in the scenario, the Quitter or the Killer?
3 -
Right, except I was staying on topic of "tryhard killers". They had a question and that was my answer for it.
0 -
Quitters are obviously jackasses, I thought it was so obvious I didn’t need to say it. But this post isn’t about them, the game punishes them and everyone already knows why salty babies rage quit so it’s pointless to talk about.
Also, I called you confrontational because that’s how you described yourself, so please don’t make out like I’m attacking you by using a word that you yourself used in the previous post.

One of DBD's biggest problems is that there is no separation of ranked and unranked queues. This means that players with completely different intentions get matched together, in this case, OP wanting to just mess around, versus a "Tryhard" Hag playing to win.
The problem if the queues were split, however, is that unranked queue would have the same issue of some people going there explicity to seal-club the casuals. Not to mention the Ranked queue becoming the designated sweat squad that no one would want to play. BHVR would also need to balance their game around both sides being competent, which they don't do.
3 -
Yeah, and I'm glad you and I agree on that. The OP, however, isn't clear on that, which is why this thread exists int he first place. The OP didn't get upset about being left holding the bag and immediately go post about the jerk who left him to get slaughtered by the Killer. Do you see my point? So yeah, I think this is worth being a bit confrontational about.
1 -
Okay, but I still disagree with your answer. When me and my friends play killer, we don't give a crap about pips; we just play to have fun. So, it's definitely not all killers who care about pips. Unless you're only talking specifically about "tryhard" killers caring about pips (which isn't what you implied, but maybe that was unintentional), but in OP's case that wouldn't apply, either, because if the Hag tunneled and mori'd off first hook (which it sounds like they did), then that's probably a black pip at best if not a de-pip, because the game does not reward moris. This sounds more like a case of either the Hag misinterpreting the survivors' actions or the Hag not wanting to play a 3v1 and just trying to get the match over with as quick as possible.
For a killer to pip, they actually have to play a long game; the more efficient the killer, the less likely they are to pip. Killers need more hooks and more chases. If a killer only cares about getting a 4k and doesn't care about BP or pipping at all, then they play efficiently and go for the fastest 4k possible.

Hi, Killer here who likes to play somewhat casually, but occasionally tryhards.
It really depends on the match and my current mood. Last night, the first guy I downed immediately DCd and the second one suicides on hook. I decided to farm and had some fun with the Claudette and David. They did gens, the David farmed pallets with me, and after the exit gates were open, the David tried to get me to sacrifice him.
Yesterday morning, there was a match that was really well played with a Yui who pulled some clutch Dead Hards and was very fun to play against. After I sacrificed everyone else, there was one gen left. I let the Yui finish and helped them escape. After the match, the guy invited me to a party. He was definitely a little kid and he was thanking me for letting him escape. I could tell it made his day, and I like being that guy who makes people happy.
But sometimes I'm in a bad mood and I want to let off steam. Sometimes the Survivors are teabagging after every pallet. When that happens, I get a bit upset and I go full on murderhobo. I do use Mori's whenever I get them, regardless of mood, but I don't tunnel, and I try to make sure everyone has fun.

"appreciate the rare few gems who actually want a fun game for everyone."
If this part of my original comment applies to you then congratulations. Otherwise I dunno what else you want from me. While they might need more than instakills to get pips, you can read from plenty of people in the forums and even in this very thread saying 'because muh pips'.

I apologize, it seems that killers who want to play more casual-ish matches get competitive survivors and survivors who want to play casual-ish matches get competitive killers. (You say "gem" and I'm a bit blind to it because survivor actions within the game say "punching bag.") This game has a knack for being extremely unlucky, like the four survivors who burn BPS and then the killer who burns a mori. Or during bloodhunts the people willing to farm never seem to be matched against one another.
Unfortunately, there's no way for matchmaking to understand playstyles, which makes for a lot of suck matches on both sides.
The pipping thing applies to why killers will go for the 4k and why they'll slug for the 4k, but in OP's specific case it doesn't apply, especially not with a disconnect. The killer would probably have to farm the survivors to pip, three-hooking each of them. There have been some threads here recently where killers were complaining that they weren't getting rewarded with BP or pips for playing efficiently, and the reason for that is that the game rewards killers for playing in a way that's fun for survivors, a band-aid for the fact that the game is so unstructured and either side playing efficiently isn't fun for the opposition. The game needs more structure so that neither side has to "play nice" or gimp themselves just to earn points and/or not make others miserable by trying to win.
1 -
DC's bother me on both sides because it's basically wussing out if you do it intentionally so for both killer and survivor it sucks, the only time I'd even expect mercy is if two people DC back to back. and even then it's not guaranteed.
1 -
Semantics. Point still stands.
I swear it's like nobody can post a single thread without someone flipping the table, like it's some sort of disease. Can we just talk about a single subject without bringing up the other side? Like once? Maybe?
0 -
You know this is a pvp game, right? Play it like you want to win. If you want to screw around and meme, play kyf or lobby the devs to give us ranked and casual modes. Chill matches can be nice, but most people who pick up pvp only games do so because they aren't carebears, and they enjoy competing and winning. It's like asking why NFL players aren't out there playing flag football every other week. It's true that the balance and design of dbd makes it horseshit for esports, but it's still a pvp only game.
2 -
So someone has to play nice beacuse you want to play nice, did you ever stop and think that they are just playing how they want to play?
1 -
Here is "No u" card.
4 -
Off topic but your name caught my eye. Are you part of the PS4 swf who took Otz to Haddonfield the other day with balanced landing, Object etc and managed to break his 4k Myers streak because of that?
The match is on Youtube and I'm sure there was a player named Cashel p 14 in there.
0 -
I was going to ask the same, I just noticed that.
0 -
Its the same for survivor they dont care about the killer pip or fun. Honestly that fine killer should not care about the survivor and survivor should not care about the killer. If you rely on the other party to have fun then the game is not for you.

Could've been daily, could've been how she lays, could've been she just wanted to move onto the next game. I for one don't like playing three man games, so I try end them asap to move on with my life.
0 -
9/10 times I don’t want to spend 15 minutes in a game farming with people because 1 or 2 people decided they didn’t want to play after waiting 5 minutes to even get into the match. I’ll just end the game as fast as possible so we all can move onto an actual one. I give hatch and that’s about it. It’s not being try hard or merciless. It’s about wanting to actually play the game.
Obviously tunneling into mori is lame and that hag was prolly trash.
0 -
lol the ebony mori tunnel off hook hag is just as lame as the first person DCing. It’s just game why you haf to be mad
2 -
If you want to meme or 'chill' your way through a game, that is absolutely fine. Want to do the conga instead of doing gens? Go ahead, I've done it a few times myself. Want to T-Bag the DC baby on the hook? Well they probably deserve it.
However. No killer, or indeed survivor, is then obligated to play your way. If you want to have those kind of games, you are of course welcome to, but don't expect everybody to want to play that way, and understand that they have every right to simply play the game as intended and move on to the next trial. The whole 'why tryhard' question is pointless, when the answer is usually no more complex than 'because they want to'. You made it easy for them to down you and so they did.
I know that every time i try to boop the piggies snoot, or T-bag stand off with ghostface, or play duck hunt with the slinger, that i run the risk of that player not being in the mood or mindset to meme around with me, and my actions might well result in my butt being spanked because i made myself an easy target, and that's okay. Sometimes it pays off and we all have a laugh, sometimes people just want to play the game and move on.
To sum up, it's not a bad thing to play casually or just spend your time memeing around, no matter what side you are playing. But you can't really expect the other side or indeed your fellow survivors, to follow suit if they don't feel like it.
3 -
Many people play competitively and have no interest to just chill around or farm.
So if 1 guy DCs and the game no longer offers a challenge to a killer he might try to finish it asap to get to the next one.
Nothing surprising here really. Especially if it was in purple or red ranks.
3 -
Actually, no. Disconnecting is an offense that results in a timed Ban. It is not considered acceptable by the DEV (or other Players) because it ruins a match. Tunneling and the Mori are part of the game, and have been stated valid by the Dev many times. They are not equitable. It is just this kind of false equivalence that irritates me.
