Be Honest, Was Turning bloodlust off As Bad As You Thought?

We all saw the posts, the "I'm not playing Dead By Daylight This Weekend As A Killer Main", "Bloodlust is needed" etc etc. So I would like to pose some questions to those who have been experimenting with it...

  1. Was it really as bad as you thought?
  2. Is it a mechanic that you think could be changed now due to the state of the game?
  3. How would you change it?
  4. And finally, how was your week? :)

    1. No
    2. Yes
    3. Remove bloodlust giving a speed boost, and increase the speed of breaking pallets/vaulting so the killer still has to play the loops if he wants to catch you, but he doesn't just start running at you at super speeds.
    4. Working. Thanksgiving week etc.

    1. Better than I expected. I no longer have wait times.

    2. Yes

    3. Start of the match only with a breaking speed boost to remove walls and find survivors sooner

    4. My week was great, thank you.

Counter Question: How was your week?

    1. Yes and no, it made Survivor queue times significantly longer for me and playing Pallet Freddy on Disturbed Ward for a daily took twice as long as it should have for the 4k and all gens repaired.

    2. Also yes and no, I think the mechanic could be changed but doesn't need to be.

    3. My suggested change is just removing tier 2 and 3 and keep BL 1 and activate it slightly longer than 15 seconds, maybe 20-30sec. It really doesn't make a difference one way or another being as it was before, it aids killers that are learning and experienced killers usually get the hit before or as tier 1 procs.

    4. My week was pretty good overall

    1. Yes. Removing it did not increase the amount of time it took to down inexperienced survivors (they don't know the pathing to elongate a chase and typically don't have chase perks). It SEVERELY increased the amount of time it took to down survivors who clearly did know what they were doing, however. Survivors who know exactly where the palettes, loops, windows, and tricks are typically kept me running for long enough that 1 and a half generators were finished before I finally downed them.
    2. It COULD be changed, sure. You'd have to do some severe map tweaking, even to the brand new maps that just got their make-overs.
    3. If I could change it, I'd scale it to survivor skill levels. But since the MMR probably isn't that smart, how about making it always on when killers aren't in a chase? Or skip tiers 1 and 3 and go right to tier 2 at the 30 second mark. Or the killer gets 1 always-on rank of bloodlust per generator finished (but loses one rank for every 3+4 minutes of game time that passes).
    4. It was okay. Everything I'd wanted to do got cancelled, but that's par for the course this year.

    1. I was worried about killers not chasing at all. So far they haven't changed too much and any changes that have happened might just be cuz I'm making it too obvious I want to be chased. Although, I've been testing out the just hold w theory... It's actually working out pretty well against some killers, even the one Freddie I went against. I've also started playing much more riskier. I don't think either side has fully adapted to the changes though.

    2. Not sure. Ppl haven't fully adapted yet.

    3. I'm not sure how long they want chases to be for things to be balanced so I'm not sure what to change.

    1. I just thought it would be overall bad for the game, that seems to be the case so far. Been watching a friend play survivor since I didn't feel good today to play myself (I feel like I'd skew the data playing while not feeling well), and the infinites or close enough are still very much in the game without BL from what it looks like.
    2. Changed? Sure anything can be changed. Removed? No, the map design is still not there yet.
    3. I don't really think it needs changing directly, I would change the maps so there's less safety and less variation so we can get the game to the point where it can be removed safely.
    4. Mixed but a little on the worse side actually. This test didn't help much.

Will test myself when I'm feeling better, but I'm not hearing good things so far :/

I only played survivor so far, but i noticed that games got incredible easy, even as solo survivor. A lot of killers just get kited around and never get a hit or down till the gens are done. I am not a runner, but if you got one in your team you basicly won, at least thats my impression.

  • Freki
    Freki Member Posts: 1,903

to answer you Yes it changed how the games went. my first game today just as it hit was as huntress and I suck as huntress. I faced a swf with experienced players. they got 4 gens done, I barely got any hooks and the only thing that gave me a 3K was the fact that first person jumped on a gen right away so their immunity from my own play style evaporated (and not to just stop regression) and they got hooked a second time. the second one i hooked was an experienced p3 quintin with Object of Obsession, and I hooked him 3 times but not in a row. third hook they gave up on being rescued because the 4th survivor went to pickup the quintin that i had left slugged to chase another survivor (the 3rd survivor hooked). I got a 3k through inexperience and cockyness due to the fact they knew there was no blood lust.

The above match was played on a RANDOM map that ended up being haddonfield. so I would say the answer to did it change what happened i n my matches is a resounding YES.

    2) I'm sure it could be reworked some what, but how I do not know right off hand and I am not going to be asked for my opinion when they do it unfortunately. Problem is several problems: infinite loops are back because of some breakable walls that new killers and even myself don't know are infinite loops. another problem is old maps would be an issue with the long straight runs and midwitch with it's straight runs.

    3) don't know haven't had a chance to think.

1: Yeah. As expected it makes high rank games a nightmare. Bloodlust was a super rare mechanic designed in DBD to fix a problem at HIGH ranks, mainly how the killer hitbox makes them move effectively slower than the survivor by quite a wide margin when moving around corners.

2: No. I actually thought it might be possible for Bloodlust to go away if they severely nerfed chain windows, but its clear the killer hitbox still makes a lot of very normal map geometry infinite.

3: They would have to do something like count all windows within X meters of each other as 'one' window (which would be weird for multi floor buildings) for the purposes of anti-infinite blocking, increase killer vault speed, and shrink the killer hitbox to prevent stuff like the Elementary car infinite. These would be changes FAR more radical and anti-survivor than just 'killers can get a bit of extra movespeed to force you to throw that car pallet at a reasonable point in time.' Ultimately the 'advantage' BL1 (the only real relevant BL for this) on open ground chases is extremely minor, while losing the ability to force a killer to BL2 to deal with a back to back jungle gym spawn would be a much bigger 'freebie reward' to killers. If you are a dyed in the wool survivor main, you want Bloodlust over them nuking windows from orbit, if your doing a straightaway run vs a killer, bloodlust is giving the killer an extra 2 seconds maybe, compared to that double stacked jungle gym buying you well over a minute currently.

4: Pretty ok all things considered.

    1. From a survivor point of view, it was fantastic! Killers seem to have been affected badly, especially around loops. The Autohaven bus section is a safe haven, practically. So whilst it benefits survivors and has little effect on higher skilled killers, for newer killers this is very problematic, and if the game wants to bring in newer players this is an unhealthy change.

    2. No, because there are other things that'll need to be changed first for it to be balanced for both sides. Map design, perk changes are priorities for example. At most, they could perhaps disable it once you reach a certain rank as killer, but all over would be a mistake for the games' health.

    3. Originally, as above I thought of having bloodlust disabled at higher ranks, but then I realised that there are a multitude of players who derank for easier matches to make themselves feel better, and this change would only encourage that. I'd honestly say leave it until some more changes to perks and maps are introduced, or introduce some type of replacement mechanic.

    4. Initially a bit scary with a health scare with my wife, but it's all good now. Thank you for asking!

    1) No. But then, I didn't think it would be game ending. I have felt it, though. A few times I knew I would have had a down with bloodlust that I didn't get. Then there were the times when they simply slammed DH and extended the chase a few more times. That was annoying.|

    2) No, because the game hasn't changed enough to justify it's removal. You still have a map full of pallets, chainable loops, and heck, they brought back god loops.

    3) I haven't really thought about removing bloodlust as it is, so this may not be thought out. But, off the top of my head, I'd give the entity blocker to pallets. Jump it three times, it breaks. Without bloodlust, more loops now become safe, simply because a dropped pallet increases it's length. Once it's dropped, if the danger of overusing it exists, it would force survivors to find another loop.

    4) Exhausting. Picked up a new job, it's left me little time to actually do anything else. Have to reorganize my schedule.

As a survivor it felt blatantly broken and made tons of loops into borderline infinite and much much longer. It was extremely noticeable

This Aussie guy does often 5-gen hold as pro looper he is, so imagine how frustrating will be for killers without bloodust

I am happy its disabled and I hope devs understand its no longer a needed mechanic. They could rework it so it does something else besides rewarding killer for doing poorly in chases

  • Deadeye
    Deadeye Member Posts: 3,627

If it was not that noticeable, I would wonder how so many people complained that hard about it, and if stuff happens like this

    or this

I'm wondering if it is such a game changer if bloodlust stays. It basically gives a crutch to killers to have a slightly better time while they are apparently losing anyway.

You could argue that survivors could get a crutch for bad matchmaking as well, but at least for bloodlust I think that bad survivors against good killers won't even run into bloodlust very often. So most scenarios I can imagine so far, bloodlust doesn't do that much of a difference and the main argument against it, again, is entitlement. Or am I missing something rather than "when I'm better, I'm entitled to run this pallet forever

    1) I was playing with it turned off and never realised it had been turned off already so idk what that says. It was a few games each as nurse, billy, wraith and legion

    2) It should probably be changed.

    3) I still feel some killers in some circumstances might need bloodlust 1 (and some never do), so maybe it should be just be something for certain killers. Bloodlust 2 and 3 aren't necessary for anyone imo. But I don't want it to end up a nerf just for weaker killers and have everyone just switch to Freddy and spirit, I could do without seeing more of those two, especially the former.

    4) Had a pretty chill week with uni stuff and my partner's getting back in a few hours after being away working for weeks so I'm excite

As a survivor main, I haven't noticed any difference. There are still bad killers who wouldn't get me even with Bloodlust. There are still good killers who outplay me without it. I know people are screaming about infinites, but I haven't had a single game where any teammate abused any loops. Most survivors are clueless about stuff like that.

    1. No but I never thought it would be bad, the FPS drops from it was worse
    2. Just remove it
    3. Change maps so no killer will miss it anyway
    4. Good

I didn't had in mind at all that bloodlust is off.

I played a lot Myers, Blight, Doc, and Billy. I saw no difference. Same playstyle as before.

"But you didn't play Wraith, Trapper, Clown, etc."

I don't play them. I prefer fun killers to play.

    Hopefully something like:

"Whilst in a chase, press [button] to gain the Undetectable status effect for the duration of the chase. The Undetectable status effect remains for 5 seconds after a chase, and remains if a chase is re-initiated.

Beast of Prey has a cooldown of 80/70/60 seconds.

Gain 50% more points in the Hunter category. The Bloodpoints are applied post-trial."

    1. It is not as bad as I thought, but I still think that pig, trapper or myers needs bloodlust.

    2. Yes I think this mechanic should be changed.

    3. I would remove bloodlust tier 2 & 3, and keep bloodlust tier 1.

    4. My week has been pretty nice, I just bought blight and oh my god this killer is hard asf. Also I've started to main demo a bit. I'm on a 11 win streak and I try to use the shred as much as I can.

    1. I didn't expect much more trouble as i rarely activate Bloodlust Tier I anyway, but it's been even less bad than "didn't expect much more trouble".

    3. No clue.

    No.

    Yes.

    3) How would you change it?

Tone it down to bloodlust 1 only, maybe. Can't really say without comparing to statistics. My personal experience is different from others, something that usually people don't take into account.

    4) And finally, how was your week? :)

Not good. Didn't do much work.

yes. It was exactly as I had thought it would feel; no different on killers such as Huntress and Hag.

Been playing survivor today, killers are noticeably easier to run and loop and are doing markedly worse. 5 matches in, no match so far has been more than a 1k and those 1k's were tunnels.

Was the change bad? To a certain extent no. But ive seen a difference in looping/being looped which lasts longer now. For survivors its a good thing. Killers not so much.

  • Bwsted
    Bwsted Member Posts: 3,452

Probably to gain undetectable after 15 seconds in a chase and resets upon hit/losing chase/breaking pallets, etc.

It shouldn't be difficult to re-code the trigger.

    1) Back on topic, I noticed no difference playing as Pig, Legion, Bubba, Plague, Snoozeslinger and Doc.

I also played Blight and Billy, but they shouldn't be affected to begin with given the nature of their powers.

This was at rank 1, for reference.

    2) I'll withold judgement until the end of the experiment, so what I say next is subject to change. I feel that for now it's safe to remove BL 2 and 3.

    3) As I said, as a tentative change, I'd disable BL 2 & 3, maybe with the next chapter update. Then give it until mid-chapter to see how it goes if you want to take it further, revert, etc.

    4) Everything was fine. I wish you the same.

I haven't played killer yet. My brother is loving that bloodlust is turned off. He is green rank killer on ps4, he told me he's getting so many more hits since he's not getting the FPS drop from bloodlust. Playing as survivor last night (ps4 crossplay off, red/purple rank) I noticed killers were downing my teammates pretty quick, they didn't seem to need bloodlust at all. I'll be playing killer later tonight to see how it goes but pretty excited that the bloodlust fps drop will be gone.

There's enough game changing killer perks to take up the slack and much more for the loss of bloodlust. Believe me.

    1. Nope, not as bad as I thought it would be. I found I just tweaked how I play as killer and things are fine.
    2. I think it should be changed, maybe not completely removed unless they want to completely change how Beast of Prey works
    3. I have no idea how I would change bloodlust, maybe just make it so you can't get more than 1 tier of it
    4. My week was long and rough
  • Seanzu
    Seanzu Member Posts: 7,526

This is definitely a side I'm seeing a lot, is that Bloodlust was actually a hinderance to console players due to FPS drops, it's certainly one of the more interesting sides to this change over the "BL Is Needed / BL Isn't Needed".

  • bm33
    bm33 Member Posts: 8,204

I think for console players removing a trigger that causes an fps drop is definitely a positive. They could have Beast of Prey be a perk that causes bloodlust instead of having it be automatic. That way if you want bloodlust you equip the perk, if you don't want bloodlust you aren't forced to use it.

  • Falkner09

Worse. they've done nothing to shut down god loops with no counterplay, and removing bloodlust makes it even more obvious they need to dump the "free sprint burst as a reward for failing to avoid a hit" BS.

I literally created an account for this. I got no problem with removing bloodlust until survivors all have dead hard. Yes, killer can still down the survivor if they have good mind game, but dead hard just adding at least two loop to every fair loop. Please change dead head if you do want to remove bloodlust.

They Keep everything to benefit new and experienced survivors while killers routinely get shafted. Experienced or not. Bloodlust is needed. Just another reason why these guys need to fire their balance team and get the fog whisperers in there to get their honest thoughts on the state of the game
