Maybe I'm missing something but why would you want to increase the number of Jigsaw boxes? Doesn't that just give them more chances to escape their party hat?

Nah. The chance to find the Key is lower. Only 1 Box can contain a Key, so statistically at base there is a 1 in 4 chance to find the Key. With an extra Box it is 1 in 5, which is better for the Killer.

IIRC, increasing the number of available boxes actually reduces the probability that they will find the box with the key. 4 jigsaw boxes= 25% chance and 5 = 20%. So ultimately the idea is they end up spending more time trying to find the right one.

Survivors only have so much time before their head pops, and only one box will free them. With 5, there’s only a 20% chance of finding the right one, instead of 25%. Plus the time it takes to get around to different boxes.

lol. theres only 5 boxes normally I believe. There's only a key in one so 20% chance you check the right one. You add more boxes so lets say 10 for easy math. Whats the odds you guess the right box?

Only one box has the key, so with n boxes the chance to find the key is 1/n. With n = 4 => 1 / 4 = 0.25 = 25% chance. With n = 5 => 1/5 = 0.2 = 20% chance.
