So let's talk about winter events 2017 - 2020

(TL:DR, previous events had themed objects, and a bloodbunt. The advent calender, despite being downgraded, is still a highly disappointing event)

Let's preface this post by saying winter events in dbd have never been a huge deal. They were never the same scope as 2018 hallowed blight. But anyway, onto the post proper.

So, way back in the not so good, good 'ol days of 2017, the first winter solstice occurred. This didn't change much, but it added a couple things. This also happened to be when I first joined the game.

For one, it added christmas lights around certain objects. Like this hook right here.

This event also changed the main menu, adding snow and christmas lights in the background.

Aside from those, it added three more things. The gift boxes, which offered an increased chance for better stuff in the bloodweb. Then the winter party starter, which is essentially a firecracker. Finally, this event is what started the tradition of having frosty eyes on killers for the winter.

Now moving on to 2018, it did much the same as 2017. Only changed the main menu, added gift boxes, added party starters to blood webs. But it also updated the newer original killers to have frosty eyes. The only "new" thing about this winter solstice is the fact that it added ugly sweaters to survivors.

Now, 2019 did not have any winter event. The devs didn't enable any holiday decorations or even change the main menu. The devs, specifically Not_Queen, said that they had already given us gifts... you heard that right, they gave us "gifts" to purchase in the store. The only free thing they gave us was a sweater for bill.

Of course this sparked a small bit of outrage. Understandably so, they essentially rubbed it in our faces that there was no event, and that there were "gifts" to purchase. This should have warned us of future controversies.

Onto the advent calender of 2020, this event is nothing more than login rewards. With the occassional cosmetic rewards. Those being charms, sweaters, and frosty eyes.

The majority of the rewards are bloodpoints, only 10,000 per day. Once a week there is also a reward of iridescent shards, usually 1000.

The advent calender, which to be fair is a downsized event, is extremely lackluster. Offering a pittance of bloodpoints, occassional cosmetics codes, and streamer exclusives.

In the past BHVR gave us the frosty eyes at the beginning of the event. No waiting on a code, which you can miss out on. They also promised to not do fog whisperer exclusive charms, which they clearly lied about.

Despite the already low expectations, BHVR has still managed to disappoint.
