For the Christmas Campfire

Twas the Blight before Christmas and all through house, every creature was stirring, but none was a mouse. The survivors were hung by the chimney with care, despair setting in as they vacantly stared.

The knives were all sharpened, the hatchets were too, as Susie and Anna were sipping their stew. Evan was busy, carefully checking his traps, as Freddy wrought havoc through long winter naps.

When he burst through the door and made such a clatter, wearing tattered red velvet and viscera splatter. His bellowing laugh made their spines start to tingle, as the bell on his cap made a rusty, dull jingle.

"Merry Christmas!" he wheezed as he heaved and he groaned, then he threw down a sack that thudded and moaned. With a crackle of glass, Rin twitched and she stared while Amanda did ponder at what Santa had snared.

Pulling the cord and kicking with glee, the Christmas surprise was suddenly free. Battered and bruised he scrambled about, but suddenly he realized, he'd figured it out.

The killers had all gathered, looming with glee, as Santa, knife in hand, got down on one knee. The sinister voice rang out with delight, "Merry Christmas to all and to all a Dead Night."

Cheers to the Winter Solstice. May your campfire keep you warm and the fog whisper good tidings.
