Is trapper even really playable at high ranks without

Tar bottle and bags? I hardly ever bother playing him (hag is so much better for a trap killer imo). If you don't start the game near most of your traps, you're screwed. Of you don't have the add ons and you're playing a competent team, screwed. Playing against swf on a building centric map where they can see you almost anywhere? Screwed.


Seriously, it is insane to me people even put him in the same their as clown. Clown is A their compared to Trapper imo, and I've had some really good 4Ks with trapper in the past. But he is just the most susceptible to bad RNG, he is the easiest to gimp power(His traps barely lockdown a doorway, there seems to always be a way around the traps. Hags on the other hand?) And he's a big dumb tall killer, so he has little to no mind game at most loops just like the plague, making him an altogether worse m1 killer on top of it.


I hear folks swear by him, is that just low tier love or what? I can't think of a single killer in this game that just feels more handicapped when I play.

    Trapper is a strong contester for weakest Killer in the game. His power is time consuming, easy to avoid and gives little payoff. Imho, no Killer needs buffs more than him. The only Killer with a comparably weak basekit would be wraith.

    You can also use trap setters or fastening tools to play more aggressively, btw.

    Trapper , Wraith and Clown without red addons = Genrushed every game, say thx to god if you get 1 or 2 hooks at end

    I play trapper sometimes at rank 1. Rank doesn't matter anyways, but it really depends on the group of people you go against like slash said. Fastening tools and bags with like corrupt is the only efficient way to play him. Sometimes I do run ruin/undying on him, but you better be prepared to drop like 3-4 traps in the start of the game, and place them as you go a long, because any longer than that and you'll lose 2 gens or maybe even 3 at the start. I find that sometimes just placing traps into the most obvious pallet spots tend to be much more efficient than actually placing them in a spot where they may not run if they are running a loop. IRI stone is very good for this, but yea without a bag trapper is pretty much going to be m1 killer for the most part. I forgot to mention don't run tar bottle it isn't worth it, because you will get mixed bags of maps where sometimes it can be brighter and actually hurt you.

    Trapper is garbage if survivors avoid the traps and with dead hard the mainstay in many survivors builds he is hard countered pretty much always.

    If u can get someone hooked in shack basement that's a gg u can very well control it if u placed a few traps there prior, otherwise it's hard but possible

    This isn't true at least with clown. Clown is a killer that people still can't figure out the map pressure he can get if you know how to use your power efficiently. I never run redhead pinky finger on clown, and without gen regression perks, off meta for the most part, and always end up usually 4k with him.

    That´s an exxageration. I´m a Trapper "main" and I´m consistently rank 1 all the time, most of the time using trapper sack + trapper gloves/trap setters. I used to almost always bring a tar bottle, I think it used to be S tier on him, but new Autohaven and Ormondo really hurt the value of the addon, same with reworked grass in general with the exception being MacMillan maps.

    To lose 1-2 gens at the start is expected. Yes, Trapper is inconsistent and has the most RNG involving his gameplay, but when you´re an experienced Trapper you should be able to 4k most games. It´s pretty insane how much skill and effort it takes compared to mid- or even high tier Killers, though.

    Yes, he is playable at Red Ranks. Every Killer is. But you will lose Gens quite fast, if somebody has a problem with losing 2 or even 3 Gens before having their first Chase, they should not play Trapper. But as long as the Map has a Setup at this point, Trapper can still turn the game into a 4K.

    Not saying that Trapper should not get some Tweaks, yellow Bag basekit and the remaining Traps spawning more to the Center of the Map and he will be much better. Currently his biggest flaw is that he only has 1 Add On-Slot since you are basically forced to use a Bag.

    Well I won't argue that. I get more consistent 4Ks with every killer, Trapper has the most variance out of all. I don't think giving ng him two traps at the start base would break him, and he could at least create some early beats with just having those two. He already can't have 10 traps period (I've been playing since console release and I still am not sure if the number of traps he gets per map is RNG, but it sure as hell never feels like enough for me).


    But thanks for the suggestions, I won't ever favor this killer but I did forget how much value he can get off a perk like Corrupt.

    Negative, RNG is his biggest issue. That is only partially solved by the base-kit bag, but I think that would be enough.


    I know he *Can be played at red ranks, you can push ready and it will work. I've gotten 4Ks at red rank with trapper as well, but his inconsistency is what kills any motivation to play him without his best set up.


    He definitely needs something.mire, I just think it was crazy the way folks talk about Clown, Plague, etc. Because they are almost night and day to Trapper imo.

    Thats why I wrote the remaining Traps should be set more to the center of the Map aka no Traps in some Corners where you either have to travel for 30 seconds to get it or simply have to play with 1 trap less.

    I regularly play Trapper without addons for no other reason than I really enjoy playing Trapper. I generally don't use addons on killers and I still think he is perfectly viable.

    Not saying he couldn't do with a few buffs though. Allowing him to carry 2 or 3 traps by default would be a huge buff for him.

    Add-Onless Trapper is literal garbage and basically just an M1 Killer since his power is so bad and time-consuming. With a few decent add-ons he can actually use his power but if no one steps in them you can;t snowball and you'll lose basically every game while wasting add-ons that make him an actual Killer. It's a lose-lose.

    I’ve consistently gotten three and four k’s with trapper at red ranks with the exception of one game where things just went awry. I usually just use brown bag and brown glove. Usually two gens pop while I’m setting everything up. He does need some tweaking and a little attention but he’s very viable at red ranks. Just may not be your killer because he does play differently.
