Is it even worth playing killer?

At least until the matchmaking is fixed? All I want is to play against players of my skill level. I'm currently a rank 8 killer, but every match I go into is against red ranks. For instance, I just played a match as Deathslinger (who I had just bought today, was excited to try him) and I went against two ranks 1's, a rank 3, and a rank 4. Of course, I got stomped, but I don't think it was necessarily because of the new killer. People say rank doesn't matter, but then why even have it if I'm just going to be matched against random people?

Even when I play as survivor, I see the same things. I've had awful teammates who were higher rank than me (I'm a rank 6 there), and I've had teammates who are amazing, but they're lower rank than me. So why even bother playing? MMR exists in other games to prevent stomps on both sides. Why does this game not have a functioning rank system?

Rank doesn't matter, but it does at least correlate with better players. You either need to play a lot, play well, or both to be high rank, even if you happen to be quite bad. That is not true for low rank players, even if you happen to be quite good.

Realistically, I don't think it's reasonable to expect to win a match at your normal rank the first time you try a new killer. Once MMR goes live it will make this less painful, but it's not exactly enough to say "it's not worth playing killer" as is. You just need to put in the time with new killers to learn how they play and then I'm sure you'll do better.

I would focus on just trying to play well and worry less about whether or not you escape. I agree with you 100% that the rank system is dysfunctional, and I'm sure the devs do too - I know they're working to fix MMR and I'm sure it will be back soon.

The 50k BP average I get from trials says yes. Gods, this game is so grindy.

Just play what you think is fun. If you want to learn a new killer, expect frustration. I'm learning huntress rn and I've had a few good matches but god I get rly annoyed with how many shots I miss

As a red rank 1 surv, I can agree. I feel bad for the lower ranked killers we go up against cause we can usually beat them, at least with a decent team of people. But I also have had really bad red rank teammates that play like rank 10s and above, so it goes both ways. MMR doesnt exist, so sometimes you get placed with people all the way up to rank 19 and are just confused. I solo rank btw, I find it personally more rewarding but I know a lot of people like talking in disc with friends. As a solo player, I see these problems and just question the devs.

There are not enough killers to properly match ranks which is why you see these disparities. Using new killers and getting red survivors continues to be tough. Not only will you likely lose bad, you will get teabagged at the same time for it, survivors dancing at the gate and not ending the match so you can 'see' then leave or get hatch, etc.

As long as you have BBQ+Chili and don't play on the weekend nights when swf are out in full force, its worth it. Make sure to lobby doge multiple tool boxes, keys and flashlights. Gens go by fast enough against competent survivors, don't need any handicaps to further frustrate you. Since you have no way of knowing if you're gonna be matched against a casual group, swf death squad or a bunch of potatoes, it is best if you always run your best perks and add-ons and play the strongest killer you know.

If the match does start to aggravate you, do what I do- face a corner and alt+tab to YouTube and watch funny videos of angry cats at the vet. I love the angry motor sounds they make.

This. This happens all the time....wish I was lying. This was not a SWF group (or at least didn't seem to be communicating). That's the only reason I did as well as I did. Notice the rank 20 has full purple perks. Assuming he's a ex-red rank too and just been away a while.

Happens both ways. I constantly get red rank killers with a team of green or gray ranks. I think the new matchmaking system is interesting, I wish I understood its algorithms.

As someone else said, it really goes both ways. My killer ranks usually sit around purple (I don't play killer as often or consistently...) and I get a rainbow of ranks. I'll usually sit in consistently red ranks on Survivor, and I'll still get a rainbow of ranks- some nights I even get matched with Rank 16 killers with one perk. Matchmaking pretty weird.
