How many VPNing players do you see a day?
One thing that has really been ruining this game for me are people who are VPNing from other countries and making the game so much harder. Hits through pallets, dead hards not going through, stupidly delayed grabs, etc make the game almost impossible to play sometimes. Maybe it's just the times I play (middle of the night) but every day I get at least 4 or 5 people who are using VPNs and it is by far the most frustrating thing about this game. So how many do you guys see?

I don't get vpning players much. The last I recall was this super laggy swf from about a month ago.

Those things happen also when people aren't using a VPN. There is no way to know who is using a VPN and who isn't

If you're playing on steam a lot of people put their location and you can tell when they're very laggy with a location that is not even close to your country lol

i get them on occasion but not very much recently, it feels like they have arms twice as long as they should

That doesn't necessarily mean VPN though. I'm located in Asia West but because DBD doesn't have servers for us I sometimes get matched with people from Singapore, Malaysia, US, France, Finland, Australia... and I've never used a VPN. My ping always sucks (120+) because there are no servers in Asia West... BHVR thought it was a good idea to have 3 servers in Asia and have them all in the East. Not sure why. I really hope one day they add a server for players in Asia West.

With all the big streamers having sponsorship with nord vpn it really doesn't surprise me so many people are starting to take advantage

Using VPN as survivor is suicidal. Only bad does to you.
Only VPN killers taking advantage. A big one. Free hits and downs. Without VPN they're hopeless and they know it.
So vpners stay on your servers and don't ruin others games.

I used to get them far more often. Right now its a rarity or I can't tell. I have had a few incredibly laggy survivors though that had very unstable pings... After a certain ms you should be kicked off. One had 900ms, another 300+ms. There comes a point when something is clearly not allowed. And yes it is possible to enforce that.

I have to disagree.
Vpning survivors suck just as much as vpning killers, they are extremely hard to hit because they lag around so much.

People can fake their location. I can say I live in Antarctica if i want

How do you even tell if someone is using a VPN.

If you are on steam you can see someone's name + location, if they are extremely laggy, have a Chinese name and their location is in China odds are they are using a VPN.

Well on Steam you can see where they put their country and base it off their connection. Sure people can lie but frankly you can tell based on the connection if they are from there or not. A person in Vietnam is never going to play with a normal connection in east coast USA or EU. Also more unlikely its a lie when their whole friends list is from that country and comments are in that language. Furthermore probably not a lie if its not a country that has some fetish over it. For survivor its not a guarantee really unless you can confirm its not swf since they can get put in the host's region. Also there's only a few specific areas that don't have their own server. So yeah the other guy saying yeah you can lie is pretty moot. Its not hard to distinguish a lie from a VPN user.

I see. I never thought of some areas not having servers and that's really lame.

Nah steam location don't mean nothin, I was called alot of bad names after one match against really toxic SWF that lost, kept acusing me of cheating and using vpn and said they reported me and my profile which says I'm from UK... They had 70~ ping and it was US East, I was at a friend's house at the time in New York :/ when switched to survivor I had 22 ping so don't take the steam location to heart

I have 600mb of down/up speed and many times survivors tell me that they see me lagigng and i'm not using any vpn. I just assume that servers are broken and not that people use vpns at this point.

download and upload have minimal effect, I used to have 10ping on 4Mb connection, I got 30ping on 35Mb connection now

Rarely find VPN ppl, but Russians here in EU are even worse since they dont even need VPN to abuse high latency and spam you ggez after the match.

With hit validation (/s) shouldn't having a ######### ping hurt you?
1 -
So far i´ve never seen proof of someone using VPN to get an unfair advantage.
Back when killers were the host, i had a match with players from Russia, Thailand, Japan and the USA. While i sit in EU. I doubt they wanted to use VPN to have a ping of 300+

That's not bhvrs fault they using the Azure servers from Microsoft and in your location there exist only two servers south east asia and east..

How would console tell?

I don't use VPN and I am located in Argentina (south america) but sometimes the serves shuts down or something and I end being paired up in the EU servers.

I'm located in NA West which is closer to Asia so it very much could be just crossing over of servers often but it's seriously like 4 or 5 a night.

But it was BHVR’s choice to use Azure. And Southeast Asia is nowhere near my location which is the reason for the constant high ping.
0 -
I know. But Azure is free so far i know for developers. You can't do anything about that. Thats why I personally prefer p2p. Yeah it's has some issues but it for people like you its maybe better as this dedicated servers. The biggest problem in dbd is the game has no regio lock. That's why you have always high ping. I suffer sometimes i live in Europe i get mostly near or lately night pings over 120 rarely 200 and higher...

Yes I know I can’t do anything about that lol. So from my understanding BHVR are cheap they went for the cheapest option.
