I was...wrong...about Plague.

I hadn’t played Plague for a while, including when I made the switch from PS4 to PS5. I hadn’t played her on PS5...till today.

And WOW, an improved fps makes a TREMENDOUS difference to her ease of use.

Bit of background;

So some of you may know that Plague used to be one of my mains on PS4. In fact upon her release I almost abandoned Clown, Freddy, and Doc entirely, playing her almost exclusively for many, many months. I just loved her, particularly how parts of her play style matched (old) Freddy’s.

I was also very confident with her, non cleansers didn’t phase me in the slightest, and I regularly defended her on these very forums.

And then...

...

Dedicated Servers launched.

Ugh. The sudden difference in how difficult it was to use her wasn’t subtle. This on top of PS4’s already dubious FPS, and how buggy Plague can regularly be started making her hard work.

Just. So. Much. Hard. Work.

I pretty quickly abandoned her, occasionally playing her once in a while, only to be reminded why I stopped playing her. I’d regularly say on these forums how awful she now was, and how sad and frustrated it made me. I’d regularly advise players to steer clear of her, or supports others opinions that she’s bad.

Today I picked her back up. First time since I’ve had my PS5.

Jesus Cheezus Cheddar Christ, playing her at consistent 60 FPS makes a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. I didn’t even have “warm up” matches getting used to her again. I was 4k every match with her today at red ranks. Like i’d never stopped playing her.

Damn she is so strong when the performance of the game engine isn’t working against the player.

She’s still “work”. She has a “management” play style that I gel well with, and it’s this very management style of hers that I can see is off putting to many killer players.

It’s also very reassuring to see that my opinions on her 3 teachables still stand. Corrupt Intervention, Dark Devotion, Infectious Fright are still the strongest perks to run on her. 4th slot can pretty much be whatever. DD & Infectious ALWAYS encourage cleansing. No matter how stubborn the survivors are.

Thanks for indulging me with my brain dump.

Glad you're enjoying her again. We need more plague players.

Personally i don't like playing her cause I find Legion does everything better then she does and the couple of minutes of improved huntress hatchets don't make it up for me (largelly because of bad aim)

Also pipping with her is still such a hassle.

Love her perks though and it's really cool to see a killer that actually has good synergy with all of their perks

I recently started using Plague more on PS4 myself recently. Bought her about a year ago and avoided her like... The plague... 😑

Honestly, she is so much fun. I get railroaded for sure, but theres just some strange pleasure I get from throwing up on survivors and torturing them with it. There are times when I use her power and it just seems to phase right through a survivor which can be annoying but I love her now. I like going full machine gun in an open area and seeing if I manage to hit someone off in the distance.

I was the same way. I played plague a ton before dedicated servers but once dedicated servers became live I lost interest in plague because of the hitting survivors with your puke and the survivors do the animation of getting hit/ scream but nothing happens. The only reliable way to infect survivors for me now is to puke on objects.

    That settles it.

    I’m getting a PS5. I heckin’ love Plague.

I play Plague on 120fps. With fancy gen slowdown build. I bet the survivors hate me.

It’s worth it. Your first match on PS5 will make all that cash worth it.

    A good Plague is terrifying.

I'm thinking about going for PS5 instead of Series X, but I'm at devotion 12 on Xbox DBD so I have to start from scratch that would suck a bit 😐️

Played her recently and did really well. I can’t play her without cooldown addons though as they make her so much more enjoyable to play.

She’s fun and her visual design is really good

I think the low BP gain and difficult ranking with her specifically are what makes people shy away from her. She is actually a pretty good killer. Not exactly on Oni level, but strong nonetheless.

Yeah, that’s a tough call. Going with the same platform means keeping all your progress and licenses.

Would be expensive switching to PS5 and re-purchasing base game and DLC.

A lot of that is tied into her “management” type playstyle. Players don’t “manage” the survivors infections, or the pools the way they’re supposed to, and they most definitely infect enough interact-able objects the way they’re supposed to while survivors are infection free.

I'm so jealous. I had to stop after dedicated servers because I get so absolutely screwed over by them thanks to my inherently 60+ ping agaisnt survivors with 20, which only really makes a difference on Plague. I still love playing her, but I can't main her any more, even though I, too, love her hybrid playstyle of careful-management-into-godmode.

Ironically, the first test rollout of hit validation actually fixed her ping issues for me. Like, completely fixed. I don't know what they broke between now and then but they broke it hard.

(Side note - I've been playing her with her purple emetic and it is genuinely kinda crazy. It's like easy mode - and it more than makes up for all the robbed hits)

Fun thing about plague, she is still bad but not because of her power or anything but because of dedicated servers, hopefully the devs will help her since for some reason her vomit even if it hits doesn't register.

Other than that she is still good, just very underrated

Yeah Emetic + Severed Toe pretty much equals insta-broken status (because they’re running)

I just got my Series X yesterday

Holy balls playing Plague is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better! Like...she's actually a pretty viable killer now. I can stream my vomit at people and actually aim it. They don't get all jaggy and laggy when I barf at them. I am actually now able to do the steady barf stream attack where you damage them with sickness before smacking them. I would have never even attempted that on the Xbox One due to how hard it was to control.

I liked playing Plague anyway but this makes her a decent killer now instead of someone I play with the knowledge that I expect to have 4 escapes with...

You Have the new Xbox? Is it really better? Do you experience any frame drops at all? I need to know

So far, I have had zero issues at all with DBD. The game is considerably better and is well worth investing in a new console if DBD is going to remain in your future. The game is smooth as butter and it is damn gorgeous at 4K.

Honestly, I don't want to sound like I'm overselling here but DBD on the Series X (and presumably PS5) is WORLDS better than it was on the Xbox One (or presumably PS4). I expected a bit of a boost with the Series X but it's easier to do everything as a killer when it actually runs the way it feels like it should...

If you've got the money (and can find the damn things), I'd strongly recommend DBD on the new gen over the old gen.

    EDIT: There is one drawback...

This does hurt a bit as a survivor (it's not unplayable in this state but the skill check stuff is considerably smaller on the next gen stuff due to the 4K resolution).

Yeah the difference is staggering. Playing previously unplayable killers on the new consoles feels so much better.

Improved FPS helps ALL killers in the game.

Poor souls like me who play on PS4...

Im still waiting for that optimization patch the devs said they were gonna give us...

I'd get a PS5 if there were crossprogression just because I put so much effort into my switch account and don't want to have to rebuild what I've already done, but hey... maybe one day Sony will give in (hopefully before the end of time but we'll see).

Side joke: People who complain about PS4 and XBox One optimization, imagine being a switch player reading what you have to say lmao
