Old undying could respawn ruin multiple times. While it was still rng dependent survivors would end up spending time cleansing both dulls and lit totems to get rid of ruin. It could certainly fail to bad rng but it's effect was strong enough to chance that risk.

The change to undying makes it so dulls again don't matter and survivors have to cleanse only two lit totems. Meaning it doesn't force survivors to deal with all totems and always goes down in the worst case scenario that existed before.

I've had success with it as well. It's not going to work every time, obviously, but if you have survivors who ignore totems -- and as he said, there are plenty that ignore anything that isn't Ruin to pound gens -- then you can punish that and end games quickly when they realize Devour is a thing. You don't even need it to get past 3 stacks for it to be completely devastating to a team.

While I respect your opinion that you disagree with its effectiveness, if someone as good as OhTofu thinks it has the potential to be game-breaking, I'm going to tend to agree with them and their ridiculous hours of experience in the game as to what can work well. He said at the end of the video that he's going to start running that combo often in stream -- it'll be interesting to see if he continues to have success with it.

    It's strong but inconsistant.

It also has a huge tell now sadly. just walk next to a dull totem. If you got cursed Undying is in play and with that most likely Devour too.

Once people figure that out it's going to drop in effectiveness really hard

I've played around with it on Wraith (using MYC and BBQ, like OhTofu did in his build) and on Pig (using it along with her traps to try and put survivors in a no-win situation, no matter what decision they make as to what they want to do). I'll probably try it on GF to see if the stealth helps even more there.

I was at Red Rank for killer before reset, and have been playing against a mix of survivors from Red and Purple Ranks in the matches I've run it. Obviously, not all survivors at those ranks are the same skill level, but we're not talking brown ranks here either. I got to three stacks in almost every game. Some of those games, that was enough to finish everyone off -- I usually never got to five stacks, not because the totems were broken, but because everyone was dead before it got that far. I had maybe one or two games where the totems went quick (one, because someone was running Detective's Hunch) -- the match I linked earlier in the thread I had on Hawkins, both totems were pretty exposed in the corridors and survivors who definitely went past them at some point didn't bother to cleanse them, which ended in a 4-Mori game.

Anything that can turn the grind of a 12-hook game into a game where you can potentially land only 12 HITS total (2X 3 survivors for 3 potential stacks to trigger the Exposed status, 2 more for 2 additional downs and 2 more stacks, and 4 more to 4K) and wipe a team out is definitely worth playing. Nothing is a guaranteed win -- even old Ruin/Undying could be broken in the first 30 seconds of the match -- but old Ruin/Undying couldn't snowball a game as fast as this potentially can.

I actually hope no one is running it -- if more people do and find success with it, then survivors WILL start looking for totems actively again (and the token transfer will probably be nerfed, ruining -- no pun intended -- Undying's synergy with Devour and Lullaby). I hope it remains that nasty, unexpected surprise instead.
