The new animations is an improvement, and here’s why.

I tried to imitate the old movement and new movement to feel the difference. Including running at the same speed (estimated).

The old running animation ######### hurts my back, feels like I got a hunchback at all times. Also I felt like I was over dramatically running for the speed I’m running at. Also having to bend over at all times also feels like #########.

The new run feels way better and natural feeling. It also matches the speed I am going at. The idle animation makes you feel a bit too confident though. But the crouch is better, you cannot just suddenly crouch, you bounce a bit, all that momentum has to go somewhere.

Video games and movies sell stories, feelings, emotions, ideas. They aren't realistic and aren't supposed to be. This game has people getting hooked through the chest, and then getting off and running like they wouldn't be collapsed in a pool of their own blood or dead.

Animations in games often need to be exaggerated in order to really sell the look and feel of them. I happen to be an animator. I did animations for soldier characters being viewed in the third person. My original set had them standing upright, the second set hunched a bit. Despite the first set being more realistic, the rest of my team overwhelmingly preferred the second set because of the look and feel it conveyed. Realistic is not always better for visual entertainment.

Yes movement and exaggeration is important in animation but this update really improves the animations by feeling more fluid and less stiff. I know you realism isn’t the point of movement but honestly I always hated how slow I was running for how dramatic I am looking while running. But I gotta say I’m going to miss old of those old meme animations.

The new ones do look better. The normal run is pretty much the same old run, the injured run is fine unless your urge to make a "running to the bathroom" joke overcomes you, and the falling to the ground is way better because you don't have that massive delay where you're unable to move until the animation feels like being finished. Going from dying to injured also looks smoother. And then there's the hilarious crawling into hatch animation. Literally the only questionable animation is when you do a 180, and even that is more of a problem with how it feels, because the slight momentum halt takes some getting used to but it is definitely realistic.

Uhh what? Everything is way more stiff now. Turning is absolute trash now.
