Almost All the Maps Are Small Now
Has anyone else noticed this? Just had a match where the killers could easily gen patrol and the survivors were lucky to just get a few done. This is clearly for the killers benefit. Has anyone else noticed that even the once large maps that gave survivors a little breathing room and now shrunk down? All it seems to do is either make for quick matches or insanely long matches where everyone is hiding cause they can’t do gens

Smaller maps promotes more fun gameplay imo, because there is more killer and survivor interaction and less walking simulator

The large maps suck for Killer's with a power that doesn't help them move around the map quickly (in other words, most of them), so I think they should work on small to medium sized maps for the most part.

I find the smaller maps much more enjoyable since before the larger maps make the finding and downing a survivor so long that by the time you get your first hook 2-3 gens have finished. The Smaller maps make it so its usually only 1 gen finished by the time I find and down a survivor

Just my opinion but I think smaller maps make for more entertaining games from both sides
1 -
Well that’s great as smaller maps are much more fun for both sides

I find it more miserable cause it makes it harder to get away and just a slog to do gens cause they can come back in a few seconds, break the gen, rinse and repeat.

Base regression and kick do nearly nothing to the gens, and no maps have been made smaller... infact alot of maps are very big and quite unfair for killers, especially at high skill level you almost always have to 3 gen due to the distance (excluding a few killers)

Try playing a large map as Clown if you want a miserable experience

Any Killer without mobility (meaning most of them) is at a huge disadvantage on large maps. So unless they figure out a way to give all Killers mobility, maps need to be made smaller.

But... but... what about the gen repair simulator?!

But that logic you guys are just security guards who patrol so crazy kids don’t touch the gens

Bigger maps should probably have 6 gens to counter the extra walking.

I’m just saying most of the small maps have the gens cluttered together, letting the killer just take a little stroll and allow them to easily patrol the gens. That’s what happened in my last match. We couldn’t get the last two gens to save us cause the gens were all so close together .

You must be talking about Autohaven. Definitely feels like a much smaller map. I guess people think it's more fun?? Lol

Run Deja Vu.

As a survivor, you can choose which gens you work on at the start of the match, so when a team finishes lots of gens close to each other, then you end up with all the remaining gens grouped up and easy for the Killer to defend.
That's not due to small maps, this is how Killers can win on bigger maps too. It's a problem with how your team played that game and perhaps not a problem with the map.

Smaller maps means less spawn points for totems which also means totems are easier to find so no more "totems are too hard to find" excuse for not cleansing totems and getting hit with NOED.

The issue is the "high mobility" Killers. The unintended consequence of creating them (and so many) is they make many Killers obsolete and/or impossible. To try and offset this they created a lot of slow down potential in Perks (such as the Undying + Ruin option), but that merely aggravated the problem. It helped the slow, traditional Killers, but made the high mobility types impossible to deal with. Hence, we said goodbye to that combination. So they had only three choices:
- Slow down, i.e. nerf the heck out of the high mobility types so they get some leeway with Perks again.
- Speed up all the other Killers to match them in some way.
- Or shrink the maps a bit so that the "high mobility" aspect is less of a benefit that it was previously.
It looks like they are going with option number three. Think about it, they redid "The Game" and didn't make it any bigger. What they did was open it up a bit and put in a hell of a lot of pallets. What value is high mobility on this map? All Killers can get from one end to the other in a pretty short time. So, they kept it small but added more looping counter play. Crotus also shrank. I used to dread that map with Myers, particularly Spooky Myers, but now I can navigate it quickly and efficiently. There is more terrain and mind game potential for both the Killers and Survivors. Please note, I'm not saying this is the best way to go, or that there won't be unintended consequences here (of course there will be). What I'm saying is that they had some meetings and discussed the issues with the high mobility types versus the normal Killers and realized that taking stuff away from any Killer sparks a ridiculous whinefest. They are opting for simply making that advantage held by a relative small number of Killers to be less useful by practical application on the maps. I expect all the large maps to get trimmed as each is revisted.

Sorry I am late to this thread. I had to run all the way across the Red Forest to get here.

Anytime I get the game it’s always with Doctor or Freddy or Nurse and they dominate easily. No matter how many pallets there are.
1 -
Yes but those three are NOT using their "high mobility" to dominate. They are dominating because they have strong anti-loop powers. The Doc has his shocks which prevent dropping pallets, Freddy has his Dream Snares which slow down the Survivors (or even his Dream Pallets), and the Nurse doesn't care about Pallets. I don't disagree that those three do fine in Pallet Town, but it isn't because they can cross the map quickly. EVERYONE can cross that map quickly.

Are you saying you want Mother's Dwelling to be every map? That would be just as dumb as the Undying nerf.
1 -
The undying nerf was pretty justified.

A nerf was needed, but not a complete got of the perk. This has left killers with one gen defense perk: Corrupt. Every other perk has been nerfed (depending on how you view Ruin).

I wouldn't say they gutted the perk completely because the core problem is just how totems spawn and work in general. Ruin is still good, but like any hex perk on its own can be lost immediately or not.

Which maps ? Barely any maps got shrunked, from what I remember, only like Thompson house and maybe Temple of Purgation was made smaller (which was ages ago) other then that, it was all layout changes, not the actual size. Not even gen positions were tampered with almost at all distance wise, map reworks were focued mainly on removing/weakening of god loops + graphically updating them.
Besides that, all the meta killers have strong enough mobility so even before the map reworks, none of them struggled with long distances.

I haven't looked at the new, updated dimensions of Crotus but I can now cross it much quicker than before. It certainly feels smaller. :)

Well until someone does actual measurements, we can't know for sure. It felt about the same to me.

True. Perhaps I've just gotten more efficient on the map, but it feels a LOT smaller to me. I used to dread pulling Crotus maps when I play Spooky Myers. I'm just too slow for it, but now I'm hell on wheels on that map.
