This is more a steam/client side issue.

And then the game will force you to verify the files and download them again, so you will have another hour to play Civ5 lol

You playing pc or console?
I know on ps4 the downloading is fast but copying it takes ages.
It's not dbd but a ps4 thing

Pretty sure it didn’t even take 2 min for me..

Depends where you are having dbd installed (HDD or SSD), if same disk shares different stuff running at the same time (OS + games/other software is a really stupid idea).
Also, the way patching works may require more time than it may seem so. Patch may be 2 MB in size but it requires to access some huge files and apply minor changes inside of them.
Depending on how they deal with it, it may either extract whole file into RAM or w/e, overwrite it and pack it back. Dunno, seen many different ways patching were done. Dbd sadly indeed takes ages to finish compared to other games, but it may just be the way files are structured.

Sounds like ya have McDonalds internet bc it took less than a minute for me. :P

The download is pretty fast for me, just like the download of anything else. But the process after that just takes a stupid amount of time, no other game or program takes that long.

Mine took about 2-3 minutes.

Console?
Cause mine on PC were never that slow.

I have Playstation Plus so my updates always download and install when I'm not home, so I'm not sure how long it actually takes, but it sure shouldn't take that long

Mobile... I know ussally the updates like 70 mb then the cdn pacth has to reinstall.. Which is like 2gb then for unknown reasons another 400 mb had to download.

mine took 5 minutes. so the issue is on your end, or your isp's end. if you are console there are other factors too. loads of reasons....

Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. A lot of people (me included) have this problem, and can download 98 MBs in less than 10 seconds.
It's just the process after the download is completed that takes forever and happens only with DbD and no other game.
It has nothing to do with the connection's quality and speed.
Not to mention the fact that after EVERY major update the game gives an error to some people forcing them to verify the game files and download several GB of files again, with the same problem of taking ages to unpack/verify and install after it is download. I remember it even happed to McLean once during one of his streams. Oh well, must be his McDonald's connection I guess.

Dude, it was a joke. Why do you feel the sudden splurge to lecture me? Jesus.
Several of my friends have the same problem OP does & they have superb connection, so I would've known said common knowledge without you "informing" me. Thanks.

Personally I just uninstall and reinstall. Much faster than waiting for Steam to unpack and repack 60 GB.
