Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

What *is* there to do in the game?

First of, no this isn't intended as bait.

Second: We all joke about dbd being an M1/W simulator, but, cross your heart, what elements of gameplay are there?

Like, the devs are adding in challenges now that have you find something on the field, but... The blightflower was a bit of a mess as it often gave killers a free down, and the glyph is... not really changing things up either.

So, what is there to do in the game?

Does the game really need to have several dozen things that you do once, check off a list and then forget about? I'd rather have a engaging gameplay loop, thanks.

Not every game needs to provide million different things to do to keep playerbase retention.

It's a game of digital cops and robbers with the time before the cops loses obfuscated by gens.

Try and outplay each other with fun builds or strategies that aren't the meta? Those are always my favourite moments. When I do some nonsensical gamble with perks/strategy and get a hit from it, or when a Survivor pulls something fresh with his odd choice of perks or escape tactics and makes me do a double take.

I know why people use the meta and it's a perfectly valid reason. I am not judging anyone for doing it either, but it gets stale after a while even if you haven't been playing for the game's entire lifecycle.

Face camp survivors with NOED is fun, or my personal favorite, Franklins on any killer, with Insidous, fun for hours. That’s why Trapper is so fun, the game always seems more quiet when playing the Trapper until you hear it “Ahhhh” trap successful!

The game is about outplaying and outsmarting your opponent.

    It's plenty of fun.

It might not be your cup of tea, if that's case that's fine you can always play Civ5 instead.

honestly if you look at some high rank players that throw on bright clothing, a flashlight, and maybe object of obsession, theyre thinking this exact question. M1 gets boring theres nothing to do... so go play with the killer. if ur an ok looper ur about to get better and if ur a god teir looper some poor killer is about to get bullied.

i get the replay loopthe game has, but i would like an extra objective too

I'll give you an extra objective if you so choose to accept. Your extra objective is the friends you made along the way. Not friends that'll just say I'll see you tomorrow and never log on/talk to you again. I'm talking actual friends. Internet safety and all that stuff too.

    Good luck, have fun.

r u ok? um not sure what ur trying to say here dude but no reason to be rude. they asked a question i gave my opinion, can u chill fam?

i was just saying thats a thing people do for fun. throw on builds to loop the killer instead of being a gen jockey. im sorry i had the opinion that a new objective might be fun. im sorry my opinion bothered you so much it made you type out some weird rude unrelated reply

How am I being rude? I'm totally serious here. Why do you instantly assume some1 is being rude when u're not sure what they're saying?

As for what I mean. Another objective can just be making new friends. They probably have similar hobbies with you.u asked for an extra objective.

The internet has changed you... You used to be cool. Now you've turned grim. (I'm joking here)

It's a very mechanically shallow game, yes. Most of the "gameplay" of DBD comes from making correct reads on where the enemy is going to be, and then budgeting your time / making decisions about how you're going to best stop that. It's why this game is super feast/famine when it comes to balance.

Versus a group of solo survivors, a killer who makes good decisions can dominate the game because the survivors simply cannot communicate about how to most efficiently spend their time.

This flips over rather markedly in any sort of SWF play, because the survivors now can basically exploit their main strength over the killer : There are 4 of them and one of the killer. It doesn't matter how "skilled" the Killer is in terms of mechanical input, holding down W will always make you move at 115%, you're always going to be animation-locked while picking up, hooking, kicking, etc. Killer will never be able to keep up with survivors who communicate effectively and have a modicum of skill in looping.

You're right, there really aren't many mechanical elements in DBD that you can improve on once you've got the basics.

You can only do so much before you get burned out with the game. Survivor has been the same stale gameplay since release, and killer is the more fun role to play but has its issues as well. I've been having my fun with the event and new Clown, but I'm getting burned out again.. So probably gonna take a break after this event is over, and most likely won't be back until the new chapter comes out.
