Why was ether 10% changed to spirit of hartshorn
I like running ether sometimes with flask of bleach, but I can't for the life of me understand why they removed both 5% and 10% ether. spirit of hartshorn is honestly a god awful addon, and it isn't needed in the slightest bit. Now if you want to run ether you only have the choice of running the purple ether which is ridiculous. I understand the new bottles needed some addons, but hartshorn is honestly one of clowns worse addons.

I feel like clown is worse to play after the changes. The gas seems to expand much more slowly and has a delay that it didn’t previously have.
The “moderately increased gas area” bottles are significantly worse than before and cover much less ground.
He got the reload buff but that’s about it, the gas itself seems worse.

I agree. When the PTB went live I also wrote in a feedback-Thread that the 10%-Ether should have stayed. I dont really see a point in the Spirit of Hartshorn and still think that the 10%-Ether should have been kept.

I mean, as much as I advocate that small numbers count, in Clowns case the ether add ons were just so marginal.
Ether 15% is still just an additional 1 second of Intoxicated, which is good in actual practice. But 10% was just 0.66 of a second, and 5% was just 0.33 of a second.
Now that Clown can Invigorate himself, such small boosts to Intoxicated were just redundant.

The detonation is incorrect right now I don't know if it was intended or a bug, but I noticed that people don't medium vault unless the bottle was thrown at them at least 1 second ahead of time. The delay is a serious problem though, and it was not there prior to changes. I still play him just fine, but I've been missing out on hits, because of the detonation delay. Considering he is literally the only killer I play on the highest level without having much problems. The AOE isn't also covering as much ground in terms of properly intoxicating the player which is a serious problem if you throw on high objects like I do. Chloroform seems fine to me, but I could be objectively wrong on that. I think it's something to with his bottles, and some of his addon changes were stupid.

They could've removed the stupid movement while reload if they wanted hartshorn to be an addon.

Nah, no way. Now that base reload is 3 seconds, Inner Soles + Cork Stopper is an extremely good combo.
Now that it’s more likely a reload is required mid chase from using Tonics & Antidotes together, being able to reload in just 2 seconds AND have a survivor gain such a little, marginal bit of distance is just golden.

It can be marginal numbers, but having to run purple ether as your only line of intoxicated duration just seems pointless to me. I don't like using purple addons often. There is a lot of situations where you can't really use the invigorate bottles, and have to stick to purple, and those .66 seconds can help a lot if you are on your last bottle and the person is going to make it to the window or pallet. Ether 15 is the much better choice, but the .66 helped a lot in terms getting some specific hits. I still think it should've stayed.

Yeah I have noticed that as well. I have smashed bottles onto objects above loops and all the gas gets stuck above the loop whereas before it would actually cover it. They must have changed the physics to accommodate for the yellow bottles.
The detonation delay is horrible since it means they get slowed down less overall because the gas goes into effect when they are further away from the center.
Overall I’d take the old clown back with the reload buff if I could. New clown isn’t as fun for me.

I’m still pretty convinced 10% & 5% were redundant now that Clown can invigorate himself before intoxicating a survivor, which can be done in many circumstances.
Yes, I’ll agree that SOMETIMES it’s not possible to Invigorate, but not often.

To be completely honest I would rather them take back yellows if it meant getting rid of the stupid detonation delay. Newer killer shacks have the same problem where if you don't hit a beamer inside the killer shack that gas is not going anywhere. but on the roof, and not inside the killer shack. There is some problems right now with him. I've been trying to just do bottle tosses which are about a good majority of what I hit to accommodate the delay, because I've been getting robbed too much. Bottle tosses on objects have some serious problems right now, and I have no idea why either.

Exactly my thoughts! They removed 3 duration addons out of 4. Spirit of Hartshorn is pointless and only will help survivors. Devs should just revert it to Ether 10%

I don't think 5% was the best, but if you were only running grey addons the fingerless parade gloves were great with it. Now there isn't much options to just do greys only which is a bummer. I don't think they were redundant if you didn't want to use certain addons to accommodate it.

I really miss the big bottles. Especially since they removed the “gas lingers longer” effect entirely. I can barely even notice the larger cloud addon anymore.
It was tons of fun to instantly gas a huge loop with 1 bottle when I didn’t feel like having to make super precise shots.
Maybe he’s better overall if you are constantly juggling the gas types but honestly I don’t feel like having to micro that much. Might as well just play someone like nurse at that point.

I was honestly never a fan of ether as I prefer bleach but we still have 15 vol % to work with. Green and brown weren’t very good anyway

I never find myself reloading in mid chase typically unless it is at a loop where they are trapped. So the inner soles to me would be useless. I've played only against 1 good clown player and he even said it wasn't a good addon. You most likely have way more hours clocked in on clown over me, so I'll take your word, but I couldn't ever figure out the purpose of it even now.

Thank you.
That was the first thing i've noticed about the rework.
The gas just seems to spread slower than before.
Also, did anyone else notice that your bottles just sometimes disappear after being thrown?
Happened to me in the basement of the house of pain on Haddonfield and somewhere on Hawkins

Yep I've noticed that multiple times.

Yea I don't know I just feel like there was some changes that they didn't need to do with him. Chloroform is still strong on corn maps due to the way the walls work, but it isn't as efficient as it use to be in terms of strength it feels like it lost some of it's value, but I haven't noticed it severely yet. Might play with it more later and find out. He is much better if you juggle gas types, but it is still not easy to find efficient ways to use his bottles in loops considering most people don't even try to loop clown.

It’s not that they weren’t useful. It’s just that now they’re totally redundant. If Clown can charge down a survivor in the Invigorated state before Intoxicating a survivor, an extra 0.33 seconds or 0.66 seconds is now meaningless.

True and as long as you had good bottle placement bleach was always better

The yellow bottles are map dependent also now too though. It really depends on the survivors that you go against that depend on if using the yellows are worth while. They typically are because survivors like to just hold sprint forward and ignore everything else, but some of the higher level players typically won't give you that chance to make them shine. That's why I think ether 10 should've stayed, because against some high end teams you are going to be finding yourself using pink most of the time. With those .66 seconds meaning if you win the game or not. Depending on how many times it actually saves you from them getting to that window or pallet or whatever.

Bleach is always going to be his best addon. I like to combine bleach with ether though too. It really adds up.

There are tons of loops that can be turned into a death sentence for the survivor by first placing an antidote, and then during the 2.5 second activation window place a tonic elsewhere at the loop. There’s nothing really map dependent about that.
Even if the survivor is clever enough to figure what’s happening and leaves the loop, I can still use the Antidote Cloud to charge down on them.

Actually, I did the numbers once upon a time because I wanted to know why Flask of Bleach was green, yet Ether 15% was purple, so did some calculations on all Ether’s and Bleach, and although I can’t remember the exact numbers now, Ether 10% and Flask of Bleach were pretty much on par with each other.
I.e. The total amount of reduced distance the survivor covers during the time they’re intoxicated is almost identical whether they’re at 20% Hindered for 2 seconds (Flask of Bleach), or base 15% Hindered for 2.66 seconds (Ether 10%).
It finally made sense why Ether 15% was purple (over Flask of Bleach) when I could see that Intoxicated for 3 seconds had the greatest total of reduced distance the survivor covers during that time. This obviously made Ether 15% + Flask of Bleach a very powerful combo.

Assuming an addon should be better because of its rarity is a stretch in DBD. Look at Demo or Pyramid Head.
Bleach was always better than ether because once you actually got to a loop and smashed a bottle at the apex of it ether doesn’t matter. Ether is better for closing the gap but bleach did both.
Bleach ether bottles were still really good but I never used them before because reloading was just too painful without cork stopper or extra bottles.
Now I want to use them but the gas has been nerfed so they don’t feel amazing like they would have with last patch.

What assumption?
I specifically said I did the numbers and calculations to see how much reduced distance a survivor covers while they’re intoxicated by each of those 4 add ons without combining them (Ethers & Bleach).
Ether 10% and Flask of Bleach were almost identical in terms of how much extra distance it allowed Clown to close on the survivor. The only difference was that Flask of Bleach allowed that distance to be closed slightly faster.

You said you wanted to know “why bleach is green but ether is purple”.
A lot of the time the distance you gain per bottle isn’t going to matter because you are at a loop. At many loops you don’t need extra duration, the gas will cover most of the loop, you need extra slowdown or they make it to the pallet.

It’s probably because I ran makeup kit alongside bleach
