I just remembered why I quit playing for the past four months.

If You go to the official DBD discord where they made a lobby you can join to meet others and create an swf to play with. You can also create a room there and play the game using comms.
It has been stated many times comms is not cheating as this myth has been going on since 2016.

great idea guys and when all killers quit or switch to survivor how are survivors going to play?
3 -
Okay I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but for the sake of the discussion topic I will admit that my swf group is on comms a lot. Not to bully the killer but to hangout and chat. Inevitably that leads to us giving each other pertinent information like shouting "Oh sh*t he's after me" or the occasional "I'm coming to save you"/"I got the save" as they come up in conversation. Hard to not talk about what you're doing right that second.
I will also admit this is cheating. I'm in no denial about that.
Personally I'd prefer it there was an unranked mode or something like that where me and my two friends could go to not mess with people who want to play the game as it was intended to be played but there isn't so when I want to play with friends that's where we end up.
That being said swf sweat squads suck. It's one thing to have a team actively cooperate against you and do well and another to have them seemingly being guided by the hand of God to counter everything you do so I get where this persons coming from. Its frustrating, unfair, and gets rid of any of the advantages killers get with information denial perks since they can just communicate everything that's going on. It also means they don't have to use perks or add-ons for extra information. Gives them the opportunity to use other perks that they'd otherwise not have room for if they wanted to use information gathering perks. So yeah its cheating and understandable to not want to play against those people who are also often rude, taunt the killer, and think that their own skill and not the massive advantage comms gives is the reason they destroyed the killer during the match. Plus it's kinda hard to tell if they're using comms till the game starts and you're penalized for leaving if you do realize that's the case mid game so you're often just stuck grinding through it.

Everyone saying that using voice comms is cheating should go to the official DBD Discord and warn everyone using the voice chat channels in there. I don't think they know.

Thank you for your honest and nuanced take on this. If more people were honest about the state of affairs like this, we'd be able to actually make progress toward a balanced game experience.
1 -
Precisely. Numbers are already falling...
Sidenote: BHVR is hiring a head of QA and QA team lead, so they don't currently have QA management. It explains the issues they've been having recently.
Second Sidenote: They're working an a new unannounced IP, so it looks like they're diverting resources away from DBD...

"I will also admit this is cheating."
DTJObe, is this your alt account, or someone else's? Because there is no chance this is a real post, lmao.

🙄
Really? That's your contribution to the conversation?

you know i agree with this. when play with swf , killer should have 6-8 perk. because swf already coordinated with other player on pre games, which player bring BT, DS , detective hunch perk, prove thyself, Object of Obsession. it makes swf stronger. Thats why when facing a swf group killer should be able to bring 6-8 perk.

I don't think extra perks is the best answer... Providing extra aura reading for survivors, allowing them to see one another under certain conditions, and proximity comms would help to even out SWF and Solo. From there, giving the killer an aura ping every sixty seconds or so... Maybe even increasing the killer's base speed by 1% across the board would be enough to even the playing field.
Of course, whatever they're doing for the early game rework will help, too.

Then the devs have to change something.

Nope. Real person. Canadian player. No way to prove that though I suppose.

So people should just get onto killer all day even if it shuts down their own fun factor just because a group of scrubs wants queues in under 20 minutes? AYYLmao. Get over it. Gaming involves queues.
2 -
Well, to be fair, 99% of killers didnt tunnel mori of the first hook, yet moris were changed.
only 1% of escapes attribute to keys, yet keys are going to be changed.
99% of nurses and Spirits are NOT god killers you cant counter, yet a lot of players demand a nerf.
The rarity of something to happen has nothing to do if its balanced or not. Otherwise, keys should not change and moris should be restored.

Gotta love how some salty killers blame SWFs and comms over and over. I play survivor 60% of time I play and MAYBE 10% of that is with 1-2 friends. I love it when a killer "only" gets a 1-2k and in end-game chat goes off for the survivors being in a SWF... when we are all complete strangers. I literally made a 30 minute video of approximately 20 killers in two weeks freaking out (and acting about as mature as an 11 year old who just discovered the F bomb) and screaming "F'ing SWFs!" when I play solo.
I mean it doesn't surprise me from all the hyperbole and vitriol on these forums from quite a few "killer mains."
0 -
This has happened to me quite a bit when playing solo as well.
If SWF wasn't part of the game they'd find some other excuse for their losses rather than looking in the mirror.
1 -
How to Avoid SWF when playing on XBOX I have crossplay enabled ....anyone ????
0 -
Played match against 4 players 2 with flashlights and 2 with took box....2 also had that perk that speed up gens ...also they had all toxic perks ..was not fun I tell you
1 -
This brings up a good question.
Why does BHVR encourage their players to utilize a 3rd party software that provides a competitive advantage? You don't encourage people to utilize 3rd party cheat engines or bypasses, but you do encourage 3rd party chat software that allows survivors to bypass the use of information perks, freeing up perk slots and allowing them to coordinate in a way that solo players cannot...
If using 3rd party software for a competitive advantage is cheating, then why does BHVR encourage survivors to use 3rd party software for a competitive advantage on one of their official platforms?
1 -
I quit playing killer because of toxic SWFs. Not all of them are, but there sure are a lot of them, more than the survivor mains of the forums would like us to believe. So now I just play survivor. It's so much less stressful and I have better odds at winning.
3 -
In an ideal world, SWF would not use comms for the sake of the spirit of the game. But this is reality so I'm not upset that people wanna chat with their friends. In fact I occasionally do it myself. I don't consider it cheating, but let's not pretend comms don't fundamentally break the game in the Survivors' favor.
2 -
It's easy mode. It's like free information that a solo survivor never gets. Killers don't like it. Either you deal with it or you stop playing the game, because the devs will never change it.
4 -
Are SWFs who happen to be in the same room also cheating?
0 -
It’s either SWF or gen rushing. People need to learn to take a loss and that goes for both sides
0 -
I can emote to follow and point at where the hex is to a random teammate as well.
You act as if it is that big of a deal. If you suck in solo queue you are going to suck in SWF too. Skill is not dictated by any amount of comms information.
In other words telling the person who immerses most of the time “Hey the killer is coming your way!” Isn’t going to somehow make them better at running the killer.
I don’t buy this whole “gap” because in over 5k hours I have had more matches where I’ve won while facing SWF. Many times they are weaker because they are easily baited due to them being ultra-altruistic.
Making killers stronger (especially those who do not need it) could overtune them and make them less balanced, and nobody wants to play on easy mode.
0 -
SWF obviously want to play on easy mode with comms, though.
0 -
It really isn’t. If it was we wouldn’t have the current kill rates that we currently do.
2 -
Yeah switch to survivor if you play for fun this is what I did. When I do play killer these days I do everything I can to make survivors have a miserable time.
1 -
SWF are fine by me, what is not fine is SWF with comms. just imagine playing Killer where all 4 survivors know exactly where you are and what are you doing...... FUN.
People who do this ######### should play killer against SWF with comms and then see how much fun it is, but of course thats not gonna happen cause they probably play only one side so its fine and fun for them.
2 -
Because the game came out in 2016 and any game such as this which does not allow friends to play together or bans for comms would die pretty quickly. It's called commercial suicide and a game is designed to make money afterall.
While comms give and advantage they are not the same as 3rd party software to show auras constantly or increase speed.
The real question is why do you think that any dev team of a mulyiplayer coop assymetrical game would not allow friends to play together using comms.
1 -
The question is, why did they balance their game without comms in mind if they're encouraging their use? The game isn't balanced for comms, so they provide a competitive advantage.
And using 3rd party software for a competitive advantage is the definition of cheating.
They need to buff solo q with proximity comms and rebalance the game from there if they expect and encourage the use of 3rd party communications software.
It's unfair to the other players otherwise.

Maybe in some mid tier lobbies it can be fun, but once you hit red ranks...my as well just bend over for the pain train
1 -
So do you have 1 bad game and stop playing?
1 -
It's what most killers do now they are tired of the toxicity of swf do there daily and leave lobby dodge when they see 3 to 4 items being used
2 -
Their daily
0 -
I check Steam profiles, TTV, matching names, matching outfits, or four of the same item. Four items isn't an instadodge from me, especially if I can fit in Franklin's.
0 -
It's really, really not.
4 -
Dunno man. I main killer at red ranks, play every day for a couple hours, I think the issue is that a lot of killers think lobbies are toxic swfs when they're just a lobby of decent players, or players that are simply better than you.
Of course, an actual really good swf is very very very difficult to beat, but they're few and far between mang. Again, as a killer main in red ranks who players for dailies and fun, most games in red ranks are absolutely going to be beatable. In some games, of course not, the game at the VERY HIGHEST level is super unbalanced and favors survivors, but the majority of lobbies are going to be beatable solo queue/beatable swf players that are just throwing on items because it makes gameplay a little more interesting.
This doesn't meant that I don't think the balance of the game doesn't need to be reworked and overhauled, a squad of good survivors are stupidly hard to beat as the majority of killers, but red ranks are full of really bad/average players. Most of it is going to be on you just simply not playing very well. Can't use SWF as an excuse.
If ya play a game, ya lose hard, just move on from it and play the next. Don't let it get to you. It's just DBD. Try your best, you don't have to BE the best, and just be happy with what you do in a match rather than the sole outcome. Even as survivor, same thing. Don't have to escape every match, don't have to 3k-4k every match.
2 -
Majority of my SWF mates are red rank with a dash of purple. You need new SWF crew ❤
Edit: I'm also sorry about the pain train. Sounds agonizing. Stay safe in the Fog

So you're using Steam and Twitch (each third party software) to gain a competitive advantage?
I do completely agree with your earlier post that the game should have voice communication built in, as it's impossible to balance without it.
1 -
Steam profile viewing is built into the game. Players advertise their Twitch with their in-game names. No 3rd party services are used.
0 -
Git gud. I promise you that 99% of the SWF you play VS are not sweat squads who give 24/7 call outs on where you are at all times. Me and my friends for example just mess around and more than half the time we never give call outs about where the killer is. Only real exception is if we are using flashlights, and even then just look at a wall, or chase the savior off for half a second then pick up looking the other way cause pickup animations are light speed. I dont mean to sound like a jerk but seriously just practice and play VS SWF or you will never improve.
3 -
Correction using 3rd party software not allowed is classed as cheating. If it is allowed then it is not.
Proximity comms is a terrible idea as swf can just disable it or use another device to chat negating that system. Not to mention the toxic nature of this game I would guess a lot of killers would not like a survivor screaming down the mic at them and vice versa.
They have been trying to balance it more but it is so easy to rank up for either side along with the matchmaking not being great that it gives a false sense of achievement making some feel they should be better than they are even if they beat some higher ranks.
When you have some players who can escape over 100 games easily and aome killers having over 100 game 4k streaks it days a lot about the disparities.
Why don't you ask your question in the next Q&A stream thread?

This is the most reasonable comment I’ve read so far. Completely agree. I play killer and survivor pretty evenly. When I play SWF of course I’m going to talk with them - we game together for the social interaction. Fortunately for the killer we play against most of us are terrible :). At the same time, I also actively avoid SWF as killer because it is an unfair advantage that BHVR has not and probably will never balance. So I don’t blame killers for lobby dodging against SWF. Comms provide an unfair advantage and the only viable solution is to provide a buff or some other incentive for killers to go up against this unfair advantage.
1 -
I just...I want everyone to appreciate this comment combined with the previous "Using a third party service is the definition of cheating" comments.

Someone telling you on comms where they are, when they're being chased, where a killer's traps are, where a hex totem is if he's been chased off of it, etc. represents additional information not available to a solo queue and all else equal, that information is an advantage. Emotes provide little context and only work if survivors are physically close. SWF also allows coordination of perks which maximizes their utility.
Comms does not make a player more skillful but depending on how much the team communicates it let's him perform better with the skills he has. That's why it's easy to find red rank survivors who are potatoes because the benefits of SWF carried them. It also means skilled players boosted by SWF are more dangerous.
Hearing from someone with 5k hours does not reassure me. It just means someone in the top X% of the player base has played enough that the gap is not meaningful.
Again, I'm not against comms. Just think the game should be built around it.
