For reference: US-based Solo Survivor-main playing on a PC through Steam.

I have encountered the following scenario before (last year in August, when crossplay was first introduced), but it eventually went away on its own.

However, it appears to have resurfaced....and with a vengeance.

Normal Server:

  • Start playing DBD, play multiple matches, matchmaking and ranks of survivors within very close range of each other
  • Reasonable queue times (5 minutes max, but on average 2-3 minutes).
  • NA/US server going by the fact that English is the only language ever used in the pre-game chat
  • Ping/latency of survivors (displayed value) is always more than sufficient

ERROR MESSAGE!
  1. One of the errors that kicks you back to main-menu , instead of a new pre-match lobby (not DC or Match cancelled)
  2. Error Message is not always the same.( Today it was way more verbose and mentioned checking NAT settings.)
  3. Highly unlikely to be related to my network connection
    1. Static US-based IP. No VPNs or other proxies in use.
    2. Monitor running in the background reports nothing related to it, nor any changes in traffic. There are neither any TX/RX packet errors, nor breaks in the bandwidth graph.

Not every error message causes the server switch, but seemingly one always precedes it.

PURGATORY SERVER (Affects both killer and survivor matches)

  1. Queue times become absolutely insane (main reason why at the end):
    1. 20-30 minutes between matches becomes fantastically quick
    2. 30-45 minutes is average
    3. Have experienced a 20-30 minute wait just for the lobby followed by another 20 minute wait for all survivors and one killer
  2. This new forsaken server is a barren wasteland
    1. There are typically only 15 or less survivors in total.
    2. Ranks of players have nothing in common and cover the entire range from 20 to 1.
    3. If you hit Ready after everyone finishes your current match, you will get a very rapid lobby composed of the same group of people you just played with, including the killer if he/she wants to play with you again.
    4. You can find yourself waiting for either the killer or one other survivor.
  3. Switching to killer brings you to the other side of the same server, and reveals why it takes so long to get a game:
    1. Switching in and out of lobbies simply cycles through the few available pre-game lobbies , and also reveals how there are multiple lobbies with only 2 or 3 survivors .
  4. Because of 2.b) these incomplete teams have to get incredibly lucky to get a match to start because they need to synchronize meeting both requirements:
    1. complete their 4-person team - by adding a survivor from another lobby that got tired of waiting there for a killer. These survivors likely won't stay if there isnt a killer already present
    2. get killer willing to stay and play with them - and since killers get to see these incomplete lobbies as well they typically look for either full lobbies or just try to get a lobby with the same survivors if they had good matches
  5. The majority of players on this server are not from the US/NA, and the server itself seems to be in SA.
    1. The language of preference in the chat is typically Spanish (and less frequently Portuguese)
    2. I don't speak Portuguese, but when I asked some of the players in Spanish where they are from, they typically responded with names corresponding to locations in South America (which then also easily explains explains seeing Portuguese , but somewhat less frequently)

What can cause a player to get sent to this abandoned server where survivors are more likely to die of starvation inside of pre-game lobby than on one of in-game hooks? How does one escape? Closing both Steam and DBD does not seem to fix it.
