Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

How to play Ghosty the right way?

I'm not a newbie to GF and played him sometimes when i was tired of my mains. But i always performed much worse with him than with Wraith. I have much more experience with the latter one but he is generally considered weaker by most. I have usually some success after rank reset, when you play against a mixture of mediocre survivors, but as soon as i hit rank 1-2 again i rarely win games with GF. That's why i haven't played him for a while.

For a while, i mostly played him the "boring" way aka hit & run, not so much stalking people (except for the beginning when they're not aware who the killer is) but playing him kinda like Wraith, hitting and leaving if i couldn't down them fast. The problem here is that he lacks the speed / map control of Wraith and that his power takes long to reload even with add ons.

The last days i tried to play him more the "fun" way that he was meant to be played. Stalking people, 99 them and then 1 hit. This was really difficult and i got "genrushed" really hard most my matches because:

  • competent survivors know how to reveal you and how to hide from your eyes. And they are generally much more aware of your presence. That makes 99'ing very time consuming
  • i know many say the reveal mechanic is broken but this goes for both sides. Sometimes i got revealed by not visible survivors hiding behind crates.
  • when you chase someone who is 99 and you get revealed before the 100% confirmation and have to leave or 2-hit, that's the worst possible feeling
  • you have to be 100% sure to get the hit before exposing, just had a match at The Game where they ran from pallet to pallet 2 times while being exposed. And leaving those exposed guys just feels bad...
  • he's a basic and vulnerable m1 killer when not having his power
  • he lacks any map pressure, that's maybe the worst part of him. Compared to other killers, i have to "camp" areas much more and protect a 3 gen to have any chance.

So i've read some people say "no stalking" GF is the best way and some competitive player told me that you shouldn't even try to chase with him but just stalk and then snowball. What do you think?

I prefer the m1 chewed pen strategy. Just keep hitting and running and being a nuisance. I only stalk if the survivors are grouped together. I find that when I expose survivors, they go into uber loop mode and its time wasted.

Perhaps 99 them and save it for EGC or with 1 gen left in you are in a bad place.

Eww, why play ghostface as wraith?

Wraith is so much better than ghostface at hit and run because of windstorm.

Its stalk or go home, otherwise you might as well be going at 150% movespeed while stealthed

In red ranks I like to keep moving because base movement speed, but i mostly do my stalking during chases by peeking because the person I choose to stalk from afar always has spine chill. Lots of survivors stand at corners while looping around jungle gyms, and you can't be revealed easily while peeking. So, you can often 99% them and then get the last 1% when you get close.

Sometimes I stalk using an ol' spirit mindgame: say you get a hit on someone near a generator that's being worked on by a different survivor, let the survivor you just hit run away then activate shroud, and stalk the now complacent person working on the generator.

Overall though, base movement speed sucks in red ranks.
