The Hatch...

So I have some trouble with the hatch. And the hatch when it's opened by a key in particular.

What I want to know is, why the gates open after I close the hatch?

So I just had a team doing 3 gens and then finding the hatch I managed to scare them off and close the hatch. but then the gates opened I understand that it wouldn't be fair to the last survivor if there was no hatch and that the hatch is their last chance. But they already used their trump card. They tried they failed. They shouldn't be rewarded by getting an easy exit after that. I think it would be fair if the hatch just closed and they have to get back on the gens.

Too bad for the last survivor but they had their chance and it got denied

Do you think this a fair option too?

Edit:

I just realized I used the term 'open' where I obviously meant powered. Thank you all for pointing this out to me!

Uh.. first of all, the gates do NOT open, only all the gens get completed, which is a whole other story.. opening the exit gates is not easy sometimes with how easy to camp some gates can be.

Second of all, if the last survivor couldn't even get the hatch and has to do the remaining gens to THEN open the gates, that'd be literally impossible, and it'd punish solo Q survivors that get bad teammates with no DS that get tunnelled early game.

So, no, this idea is just objectively bad, plus a hatch as "last chance" is still luck based, you can't count on it except if you had it early located.

They don't OPEN, they get powered. Get what you mean, though.

So, the hatch is designed to basically stop the match from stalling forever. Instead of hiding for 3+ hours, the Survivor can go get the hatch escape, or the Killer can stomp it in the nuts. That activates the EGC as a timer to make sure the game comes to an end and doesn't end up with the Survivor trying to hide for the aforementioned 3+ hours. It also gives the Survivor the obvious chance to open the gate, since they need SOMETHING to do during the timer other than twiddle their thumbs or just run to you for a hook. The timer ends with them dying, so the other option is to risk a gate escape.

In the past, before the EGC, this was a bit of an issue. I particularly remember playing ages ago against a Huntress that COULD NOT hit me, but she got everyone else down. I swear that match went on for 45 minutes. If that happened now, she could have just gone for hatch and forced my hand.

(I am not going to correct the gates are only powered not opened bit because I imagine someone is going to jump in and aggressively correct that, so you don't need another person doing that lol...)

But yeah, it's one of the reasons keys are terrible and should be changed. Supposedly they will be, but BHVR seems to be taking their sweet time with it. Not like it would be a hard fix either:

Keys can only be used to open hatch once all generators are done; providing an alternate escape and something akin to how new mori's are. It makes that end game escape a bit easier, would help if noed was in play, but generally wouldn't cheat the killer out of a game beyond that.

It gives a possible way out when you have bad exit gate spawns which I am fine with, and an alternative escape that you've at least earned. However even if you are the last survivor left alive and the killer shuts the hatch, that key should not work unless all the generators had been done prior.

Not only that but if you're in a team and 1 person dc's right at the start and the other 2 are pre-made and have key & map, and you're the last one. It's very sad that they find the hatch and then it's me alone to survive with a killer right behind me. I surrendered myself to the killer bc I knew I wouldn't find the hatch in time without the killer being there first.

Plus there were still 2 gens needed to be fixed which I couldn't do alone either. I wish there was something about this to make it fair to all survivors, like open the hatch again when there is only 1 survivor left, or let it respawn somewhere in the map.

otherwise the last survivor is really ficked by the actions of others, especially when you play alone with a pre-made group of 2 or 3 who have a key. Because who knows when they will find the hatch and wait for you or not. And this happened to me way to many times that I got left behind bc the others took the hatch and me eventually dying.

I'm fine with how it is now. Very rarely will the survivor escape through the exit gate anyways.

If it was this way, it could lead to the last survivor infinitely doing nothing, holding the game hostage waiting for the killer to dc or simply just wasting their time.

Using keys on hatch is unfair already, this is just icing on top to be frank.

i mean that would be an inherent key balance. "All or nothing". You ######### this up, you're screwed

No. The hatch can be opened with a key at any time when the hatch is spawned. Happened to me when 2 gens were still needed to be done, and then we all escaped through the hatch (with 4 people as pre-made team for achievement)

As soon as the hatch spawns, you can open it with a key, no matter how many gens still need to be done. But as soon as it open-end then closed, the remaining gens are suddenly gone and the exit gates are powered.

Yes...I understand how hatch and key works; what you read is just my opinion on how I think it should work.

(Though what you described isn't possible right now)

The hatch can only spawn if there is one more Generator done than there are remaining Survivors. With 4 Survivors alive, it will only spawn when 5 gens are done. 4 gens with 3 Survivors, so on and so on.

If they got all 4 out of the hatch with 2 gens left, you got a severely bugged match.

Edit: Nevermind I misread what he said. I corrected it.

Just seems like an odd thing to bring up with the current mechanics, then.

Damn before I could edit. No I misread what he was saying, what he just described was impossible, yeah lol.

Either he is mistaken, lying, the game bugged, or someone was hacking. One of those four things.

Yeah I just got an extra buggy game I believe since this happened around a week ago. but I don't mind since we got the achievement for it

Well you have some points, but that doesn't fix the problem with 3 survivors opening the hatch after getting 3-gened (their own mistake) and after I close the hatch they can basically leave after 20 seconds.

So then close the hatch and let the team continue to do gens and open the hatch again after only one survivor is left.

If it's with a key, sure, that sounds fair. They made a huge mistake and should be punished rather than rewarded.

    Yes exactly

I believe that's what I was complaining about when I posted this argument it just seems unfair /#########-ton of luck for them to find a key in a chest open the hatch, and avoiding the 3-gen against a Demogorgon.

To be fair playing the 3-gen against a demo can be frustration. but still I just feel cheated out of the 4K because they were all injured and death on hook.

That's pretty much the entire story behind keys these days.

I'm personally not a fan of any mechanic that ends the trial early and abruptly. It completely ignores late-game plays.
