Survivor is slowly becoming less skillful
A little while back I was getting matched up against a lot of bad survivors as killer. I found it quite easy to pressure gens since, yeah well they were inexperienced, they didn't really do gens much. But then I got matched up against some inexperienced survivors again (probably around 100 hours or something,) though they knew how to hold m1 and W, and thats a massive problem in dbd. As a survivor, nowadays you can literally hold W and you've already wasted a minute. (That equals a gen, since you have to hook as well)
Another thing. There is a massive amount of pallets, so the meta as a survivor now, is just to play safe and pre-drop pallets. Y'all remember when you were supposed to conserve pallets? That doesn't matter anymore, as long as you have a few pallets around, you can loop, or you keep holding W for the whole game and the gens will be flying.
I'm particularly referring to The Game, (holy crap they have to nerf that map) The Game literally the best survivor map currently, it just has way too many pallets.
This is the reason the only killers that stands a somewhat chance against optimal survivors are Nurse and Spirit, because they ignore both the skillful and non-skillful part. A non-skillful thing would be just holding W, because holding W is insanely strong, but too simple.
I really think this problem needs to be looked at before messing with the ranking system. If the ranking system actually becomes somewhat decent, then all the killers except for Nurse and Spirit are done for.
Idk if I might be dismissive of a killers skill, but to be brutally honest, do you guys see any other killers than Nurse or Spirit win against an actual optimal team? Let me know what you guys think, and please take this with a grain of salt.
Because if the weaker killers are already having trouble against inexperienced survivors, that knows how to hold m1 and W, how should they be viable against an optimal team?
This is just how I feel about the game currently.
P.S
You should check out Scott's video regarding "The Strength Of Holding W," here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fv1rD82kmM
TL: DR
Essentially, survivor is becoming less skillful, since they really don't need to conserve pallets anymore, they can just pre-drop and play safe. You can have very few hours in the game and beat an experienced killer, as long as you hold m1 and W.

Another discussion about m1 & w
They were in game from start, please stop and get good.

I agree with you. The additional pallets plus breakable walls which create infinite loops until the killer spends time to break them tilt the balance on those maps. Holding W has kinda always been a thing though. it's just getting attention b/c streamers are calling it out now. Depending on the situation your best move is to let them run & spend time healing so you can go pressure gens.
As survivor, i've been seeing 4/5 games lately being spirit or nurse in red ranks. I think it's b/c of this issue exactly. When the devs buff survivors (on purpose or by accident) so much that only killers who are anti-loop can get it done, that's all we'll see.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyyyyyy goddddddddddddd another M1 and W thread just stopppppppppppppppppppppp gittttttt guddddddddddd
Apparently survivors are supposed to ignore all objectives until they've been chased at least once and start swinging their character left and right every time they get hit, please just stop making these threads.

I love comments like this "get good" - brings nothing useful like ppl who thinks that (Killer Name) = no counterplay but when you show some evidence = baby (Killer Name). As player who plays both sides I agree with @NoahsRIK but only when it comes to playing against top survivors. Average killer (average skill not killer e.g Wraith) in dbd should easily defeat average swf or strong solo team. Playing as killer is not balanced vs top survivors and I dont think it will ever be.

I think it is a dangerous generalization. I will say that I am experiencing (and seeing when I watch my gal play) a lot of supposedly Red Rank (w/Purple thrown in) Survivors that don't cut the mustard. In fact, I'm assuming they are like Browns or Greens at most until I get to the end. It is kind of puzzling. My gal played against a Red Rank team yesterday, at Gideon no less, and proceeded to kick the crud out of them. *I'm very proud of her. Not only did they not play well, they proceeded to give her Salt like angry Potatoes would. I'm not sure what is up.

People say get good, but that doesn't apply when the Survivors are good and the game hands them the advantage.
Would be hilarious if new mmr encourages killer buffs cause it's manufacturing skilled squads by default. That small % will grow once even competent solos are paired without potatoes.

I disagree. Way back when, survivors had double pallet jungle gyms, the BLATANTLY overpowered pallet vacuum, exhaustion tick down in chases, before exhaustion you could use all exhaustion perks, DS on first pick up (for everyone), instant blind flashlights that were game ruining, etc.
Even just recently they lowered linked tiles on certain maps with those worthless hills. The farm maps are still really bad for linked tiles, however.
Survivors a lot tougher than it used to be, provided the killer is good. A killer that knows how to play tiles and hide the red stain can be real tough to play against.

This is the way I see it. Survivor has had by far the most nerfs in the history of this game. Heal speed nerf? Survivors adapted by prioritising gens over healing. Pallet nerf? They got better at looping, etc etc
People say survivor takes no skill which is funny because survivor has a higher skill ceiling in regards to movement and running tiles than 90% of the killer roster. You wanna tell me stand still and watch survivor Shape takes more skill? lol

Yes exactly, and yes it's for the most just a problem at the highest rank, but that's why I don't understand them trying to fix the rank system in this current meta, I would rather have them balacing the top level, but tbh, as you said, I don't see it happening either.
Ofc they need to fix the ranking system, but im just scared of a working ranking system.

I do wanna point out that, when I say survivor is becoming less skillful, I mean in general "SURVIVOR," like the gamemode, not the playerbase.
The playerbase is always getting better, and thats impossible to stop, but my point is that the gamemode "Survivor," is becoming less in need of skill.

Survivor takes skill for sure, but killer skill ceiling is much higher, and thats true, we all know it. I play both survivor and killer, and I can easily tell the difference in skill.

Holding W is boring i agree, But i dont agree with 'too many pallets' point, except for the game (map with no windows) other map has less pallets than before and more dead zones (which what make some survivor hold w),
Also another reason is many killers now you cant loop them normaly, tell me how do you loop deathslinger in normal loop? instaed you only counter him by holding w and rushing gens.

What you're saying is correct, but thats why im saying at the "Top Level," because at the top level, survivors know how to play against good killers, and loop certain tiles.
For the most part, (almost always) the killer gets rewarded for the survivor making a mistake. It almost all depends on the survivor making a mistake, but if the survivor is a good looper, and makes no mistakes, what is the killer gonna do?

Survivor has never been skillful, really.
*Hold M1, hit skillcheck*
*Run in circles around pallet*
*Take hit*
*Greed with dead hard*
*Drop pallet*
*Move to next loop*
*Rinse and repeat*
*Complain if killer did anything to help them win*
Survivor in a nutshell.

Yes thats true, I should have been more specific my bad. When I said weaker killers, I kinda meant m1 killers.

I think the problem is that overall, there are very few things in dbd that take much mechanical skill or quick reactions, 90% of this game is learning the right play for the right situation. It doesn't take days upon days of grinding the same action like a combo in a fighting game or training FPS reaction. For a significant chunk of killers looping is unfortunately the right call in most situations.
This works for killer too
*patrol gens*
*find survivor*
*chase around loops/pallets*
*get down*
*hook them*
*repeat 7-12 times until game ends*
There's maybe 3 killers that break from this mould and they're the most boring killers in the game.
The game isn't as deep as you're making it out to be.

I definitely agree with what you're saying, but I feel like some of the recent updates have made the game less skillful for survivor. An example would be the game, (as you said) but not only that. Im pretty sure they've increased the amount of pallets on some other maps as well.
All the recent games I've played as killer, ALL the survivors I meet play really safe, and doesn't care about conserving pallets anymore, because gens are gonna fly anyway. Gen speed also needs some work I think, because you just go and drop a pallet, then rinse and repeat, until all the gens are gone.
The thing about conserving pallet, is really sad no one really thinks about this anymore. I think a big part of the skill in survivor is conserving pallets, you gotta time your hit, and be ready to move to the next loop, and maybe die for a pallet, because it will be important later on.
This might be an opinion of my own, but I think they need to decrease the amount of pallets on some maps, so the survivor really have to think about conserving pallets.
But idk I feel like the way of playing really really safe seems more meta then it used to be.

This is what I've been preaching around here. People demand that killers should take more skill, meanwhille these same people shift+w every chase, abuse the strongest window on the map, drop god pallets, and tap E for distance. There's a lot of time that can be wasted by survivors with no skill required. The other day I saw a survivor run through shack, around because they could, drop the god pallet, run through the saloon, up the stairs, through the window and around. All that against a 115% killer. I kept following them just because I get curious how busted the game is lmao but yeah one god pallet here and there should not allow the survivor to shift+w around the entire damn map.
